So this album, along with The Riddle by Nik Kershaw and So Red The Rose by Arcadia, pretty much defined my 3rd fall semester at college, in many ways an experience i never topped or even equaled...but at the time i thought 'wow! I'm 20 and its gonna be like this? Life is awesome!'
It occurred to me after listening to some old Motown tracks that this guy's voice was very-much like El Debarge, from the Debarge family act of the early 80's. Mr. El Debarge at bit more range and dynamic, but both voices were actually very sweet, gentle and soft. Highly original singers and voices. - _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_
@@Sticks922 We were somebody if we had Car Audio kit like that back then.....it just cost a lot of $$$, I had to reinforce my parcel shelf as the speakers were too much for it.6 x 9' Pioneers just like yourself. Crossovers in the front doors running 6" fill speakers in front and back doors as most of the sound as we know was coming from the Pioneers. EQ set flat........Lets come forward to 2017 I ran an Alpine head unit in my work truck with a 12" Alpine Type R sub and Type R 2 ways, dedicated Amp for sub of course, dedicated amp for all other speakers. Total cost $6+ Large...not a huge amount in Car audio terms, but it was a panel shaker......haha. Still appreciate great Car audio.....
You are 100 percent correct about that. What a fantastic album, full of hits with stellar production! I wish we still had music like this being made. Not much of its kind left.
Still consider it one of my best ever 80’s songs! I was 14 years old when this powerful track was released! Until now I’m always thrilled and obsessed when listening to it! That’s the power of the 80’s! Thank you Scritti Politti!!!🙏🥰👏🙌
Haa...this track entered my head few days ago (your noted recent comment - 4 days ago), and just commented. Perhaps we are in need of this feel.good revival. Nostalgia is golden 👏🙏.
Hopefully these re-releases means a new and younger audience can discover one of (IMO) the most overlooked and under appreciated bands in recent memory. Absolutely love everything they and Green do!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely agree. This music is an absolute gem that ALL music lovers must be accustomed to. Especially Green Gartside's genius. I strongly feel that even critics failed to see the brilliance of Scritti Politti's music. Hopefully these re-releases do result in a younger audience basking in this music. 💪
one of the greatest sense of pop melodies ever ...his stuff is ethereal ...unfortunately only perfect way was a hit in the states...It literally became one of my favorite all time songs if not The favorite...I was 11 when it came out. so I just figured they were a one hit wonder...then I heard the sweetest girl somewhere and said ..hmmm..thats 2 awesome songs...his hooks just grab me...so I said let me see what this band is about...and for the last decade I have been hunting down anything I can get by them and green has become one of my favorite musicians...he is one of the only artists I'd pay to see at this point still left...his stuff is just gorgeous
@@michaelfrazia4569 Absolutely! For me, hunting down their music was actually a treasure hunt in itself. I will always cherish the experience of discovering their music. It was mind blowing. Green Gartside is a definite genius the world needs to know about! Each and every song from Cupid & Psyche 85 is platinum to me. 😎
...I remember seing this Video (probably early 1984, or 1985) on "New York Hot Tracks" and FLIPPED, because by then it a was huge 'Club' hit....thought the Video was weirdly 'Art-y', but you could NOT deny the sleek groove...."Cupid & Psyche '85" was THE quintessential New Wave/ Dance Club LP; It had NUMEROUS hits and, "Perfect Way' solidified all the hard work put into it..... (cont.) I preferred the Jean Baptise Mondino 1986 re-release Video more, but THIS Video, shows the ARTISTRY of the work.....about DAMN time it's been re-issued, I 'prayed' like Aretha for it......
I was 11 years old in bed with chickenpox when I heard this👀🤟🏿🙏🏿 my God how good was this back then and now. My definite guilty pleasure. This was mesmerising. A great year for music 1984.
Old enough to have seen this video on MTv when it was new. Back when music videos (on a channel devoted to such) were amusing and often literal interpretations of the song.
This is the song that connects all the 80s acts of this genre best songs into one. Totally memorable. Has all the hooks and beats . No other song does it.
I discovered Scritti Politti this year. I received the Absolute compilation CD 3 days ago and OMG... I'm enjoying it as hell. Their music is so interesting, it's definitely food for your soul!
Remember staying up all night watching music videos on Sky Channel in Europe. Hoping to see anything by Scritti Politti. This is a gem, a true classic from the BEST decade for music.
Heard this on the radio, the presenter criminally didn't say who the artist was, I racked my brains for hours wondering who made this. In the end, I asked the Most High to help me. Hour's later Scritti Politti popped into my head. Thank you God. Great tune.
Still sounding so good, March 2024. How these tracks randomly enter your head suddenly, from your youth. The B-line, his vocals, tremendous composition. Love the instrumental mid section; 2.24. Never even registered the lyrics, all these years, apart from "Aretha...." 🤭. One of the finest produced, of 80's 👏.
Just listen how clinical and balanced it sounds today! Today this day, I'm sure the producer was a surgeon lol. Every key, drum part and guitar stroke, has it's own place that just follows each other like little ducklings with their mother 💖
@@itsjonathangray Honestly, I don't know how long I would have kept listening if it wasn't so late and I wasn't so tired at the time. This song still puts me in a trance to this day.
Thank you for confirming it was indeed Michael (actually who else could it be with those lines 🙂) Oddly, I've never seen this video before today, loved Scritti and Michael's work in the 80s, never knew they collaborated. He looks *so* young, but then I guess we all were back then 🙂
Scritti Politti achieved the enviable feat with Cupid & Psyche 85 of crafting immaculate songs and pairing them with stylish videos that didn't succumb to the cheesiness so prevalent in 80s culture. Well done gentlemen!
