Most of Bill Murray's siblings were in the movie. His eldest brother played his father in the "Christmas past" segment. My brother uses to work on the floor under Bill's office in NYC. Sometimes Bill would just "pop in" and take someone out to lunch. One time he took my brother and I to lunch. And I will tell you at that time in his life, Bill was just as spontaneous and funny in real life as he was in the films. The taxi ride from the building to the restaurant is a day I will never forget.
"It's Christmas Eve! It's... it's the one night of the year when we all act a little nicer, we... we... we smile a little easier, we... w-w-we... we... we cheer a little more. For a couple of hours out of the whole year, we are the people that we always hoped we would be!" Merry Christmas! ✝️ 🙏 🎄 🎁 Fun Fact: This was Bill Murray's first starring role since Ghostbusters (1984). Gun Enthusiast Fact: The sling mounted GE M134 minigun used by Lee Majors in the beginning of the movie was the same one used by Jesse Ventura in Predator (1987). Final Bow Fact: One of the special appearances in the movie was that of actor John Houseman. He died on October 31, 1988, less than one month before the movie was released in theaters on November 23. Murray Family Fact: All of Bill Murray's acting brothers, John Murray, Joel Murray, and Brian Doyle-Murray appeared in this movie. John's the only one that played his on-screen brother, Joel plays one of the guests at John's party, while Brian plays Bill's on-screen father. Historical Fact: When Frank (Bill Murray) throws water on the waiter he sees burning, he says he thought he was Richard Pryor to cover his insane behavior. This is a reference to an event in Pryor's life when he, while freebasing cocaine, accidentally set himself on fire and ran down a busy street in Los Angeles. What Script Fact: Bill Murray falling on his way out of the restaurant was unscripted and a genuine accident. Apparently, it was due to the stairs still being wet, after splashing the waiter with water, that caused him to lose his footing. Bill Murray ad-libbed most of his lines. In a 1988 interview with Philadelphia Daily News, Richard Donner discussed Murray's penchant for improvisation and described the experience of directing Murray as follows: "It's like standing on 42nd Street and Broadway, and the lights are out, and you're the traffic cop."
So glad you reacted to this. This is the version of a Christmas Carol I usually watch during the Christmas season. I like the Muppets one too but this one I watch more.
Glad you liked it, some reactor's took this film way too seriously. It's a Dark Comedy Parody with a hint of drama but the way some have reacted to it you would have thought it was a 100% serious drama.
David Johanso, the ghost of Christmas past, had only just gone into "serious" acting before getting this role, after being a successful musician. He originally sang with proto punk/garage rock/glam band The New York Dolls. Personality Crisis is a must listen for anyone into rock music, an absolute belter.
This is in my opinion one of the best Christmas movies. The Ghost of Christmas Future was my favorite. The design was slightly modern but it works! Great review tonight!.
The brother is bill Murray's actual brother. The assistant is bobcat goldwait, a comedian that has done several movies as comic relief. If you like his work check out a comedy called one crazy summer. Practical effects are making a comeback since CGI can't give you the level of detail that you need for some of these scenes.
I loved the assistant so much! All for practical comeback let's go! I think cgi just became big and popular super quick as it was incredible what we could create with it, and over time will be able to make a nice happy medium
Bobcat Goldthwaite is the guy with the shotgun. He also played the character Zed in the the Police Academy movies, and shows up in quite a few other movies. Great character actor, who often plays the sort of dorky but lovable characters like this one.
Ah, Katie, I love the hair. Has an appropriately wintery, hypothermic feel, that we all remember from those glorious childhood Christmases, when our older sibling(s) would strip us nude, and lock us out in the snow for the holiday...ah, good times.
The funniest part in the movie is the sign in his building stating "Cross (defintion) : a thing they nail people to." Also, my cousin is in this movie as Wally in the promo of Father Loves Beaver.
I always loved Bill Murray and this is one of the best Christmas movies around. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas Skele and a lovely new year. Much love and hugs.
I just can't believe it's from 1988. It feels it has been around for longer. Perhaps the Christmas feeling made me feel more childish watching it, but I must have been at least 16 seeing it for the first time. Haven't been able to make toast the last 35 years without saying "It's a TOASTER!" (And nobody gets the reference.) C Kane was great in this.
K, in case u didn’t know, Dalmatian’s were bred to run alongside the aristocracy’s carriages and run off anything that would spook the horses. That’s why they have a large chest - lung expansion. I had a Dalmatian at one time. He was a good boy. He was my buddy so, I named him - Buddy.
Apparently Bill Murray wanted the fight scenes with Carol Kane to be as realistic as possible so had her actually hit him. In one take, Carol accidently hit him so hard that she split his lip 😯
Bobcat Goldthwait got his big start in the 80s stand-up comedy wave as an outrageous crazy character which translated into bit parts and secondary roles in film.
Hi, love the videos. Your take on movies is different and interesting. As another fan of Fantasy and Jim Henson one of my favorites is the TV series the Story Teller from the late 80s. Has John Hurt brilliantly narrating Fairy Tales to his puppet Dog and the stories are a mix of live action and puppets. Also great to spot young British actors "before they were famous". Edit: Had just finished the Gremlins Video and forget I'd moved to this video, so meant to post this there as puppets were more of a theme.
Thank you so much! And welcome! 💙 Yess this is perfect there's lots of Jim Henson things I've missed that I'll be diving into the new year, lots of exciting things coming up and excited to share my love of it!
Hi, Katie!!! 👋 Love the hat!!! 🥰 I just want to wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas!!!! 🎄🎁🎅⛄ I also hope you have a Happy Birthday, dear!!! 🎂🎈And a Happy New Year!!! 🎉🍾🥂 Lots of love from your biggest fan!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🌹
pre-video: love scrooged and the muppets' a christmas carol. they are my favorites. this has great practical effects recommendations while i remember: 'life force' [a british horror film however the main villian is naked 99% of the time] and stephen king's 'sleepwalkers' [practical effects] and 'rose red' a haunted house tale elliot is bobcat goldthwait, comedian i loved his end monologue and i thought you'd love the ghost of christmas future merry christmas skele
I have really weird memories of this one, I feel like I watched it as a kid but I can only remember fragments of it but I remember it being bizarre af, I would appreciate it more now
Cool hat! You should check out Bill in Zombieland if you haven'tseen it, he does a terrific send up of himself, and you'll love the makeup and look of the film.
New sub. Hi from Texas. Or howdy if you'd like. Have you ever seen Tucker and Dale Vs Evil?? I think you'll really like it. Everyone does. Very funny and oddly sweet. Oh, it's brutally violent too lol
Hi Katie an lovely review Nice one for Christmas Well you have already reviewed a film from this director Richard Donner who directed the omen a bit diffrent to this He also directed Superman and all the Lethal Weapon films Sadly died last year i think Karen Allen you may recognice Marion from the original Indiana Jones and Raiders of the Lost Ark Very Best Wishes and a very Merry Christmas
I'm not entirely convinced Bill Murray is an actor, just as Jeff Goldblum. They're just being themselves and there happens to be a camera in the room 🤷🏼♂
Funny you should say this because a couple of the more memorable moments of this film were total accidents. Bill Murray's trip and fall in the restaurant was completely accidental and not in the script. Likewise it was an accident when he jumps back from the elevator and delivers a Bill Lambeier elbow to Grace's jaw.
I have been slowly working through your old video's don't have a lot left though, guess that means you need to pick up the pace and start making new ones faster.
