Number 1 played a person with special needs quite well. And they treated this in the same way a good caregiver would treat their clients. It's the little things that make a huge difference.
if "Hey Number 1" is the only time a day where someone treats you like an equal or friend and not a patient or object of pity then - yeah - it can be important. Even if its just a silly in joke. For someone that is never "in" on anything that can be huge.

I had a classmate like this guy in middle school. He was 17 or 18, way older than all of us, and also always laughing/smiling. He was also one of those savant types. You could give him a date, no matter how many years away, and he was able to give you the day. It was incredible
I am on the spectrum (not a savant), and within a few seconds, I can also give the day of week for any date thousands of years away. However, there is an algorithm for that, and I think pretty much anyone with basic math skills can do that once they memorize the steps.
I'm glad that for most of the series they never forget that the hospital loves to pile it on some days. Even if its small they can still wear people's patients
It is something that is very annoying and sometimes you forget the whole picture. This is a person who has to make major life or death decisions all day and while he is trying to think or make those decisions someone pops up and randomly says, "hey number 2!" Over and over again, anyone may lose their patience so I think JD should get some slack yes he was short with #1 but he realized his mistake and made amends with him in a way that valued #1 and he could understand.
He was completely justified in being upset with the special needs patient. The fact that he approached him and explained in a calm voice that he can't play this game is already way more than most people would do. Being special needs doesn't excuse you from being a polite person

It’s not something that’s okay... but dealing with people when their minds aren’t all together, like with special needs or brain damage, it’s a very taxing thing, they don’t think the same way everyone else thinks, and it can start to get stressful at times... jd’s reaction wasn’t ok, but it was very understandable, he didn’t go into a profession expecting to deal with people like #1, just wanted to help them.
Didn’t JD (#2) fell asleep in the room Number 1 was in and #1 said “Goodnight, Number 2” and turn out the light? If so, that’s one of the heartwarming and adorable moments I’ve seen in this show.
