SCUBA diving for Dungeness crab in Mukilteo, WA
The visibility was absolutely amazing. Enjoy the views. All though most of the crab had just molted I was still able to find my limit with hard shells. Very tasty crab.
Cheers,

Since the removal of the oil Pier, the crab have gone away at mukilteo, The main source of food is gone, the Pier pillings supplied the crab with mussels, and barnacles.. I have video footage of being under the pier and the whole sandy floor is full of hundreds and hundreds of Dungeness crab..

When I was in my late teens and early 20s back in the late 80s early 90s all we caught were 7 1/2" to 8" crab. We threw the 6 1/4" and 61/2" crab back. They were huge in comparison. That was when the limit was changed from 12 crab to 6 crab.

@@SeattleRingHunter Absolutely. Where Pigeon Creek dumps into Port Gardner Bay used to be an AWESOME place to crab. Back then we referred to it as "select crabbing"

I got my advanced certification with Underwater Sports, I'd recommend them. I think they have a few locations, with the main one on Aurora in Seattle.

This dive was during the winter crab season. Our visibility is at its best in the winter time as there is less blooms and particulate in the Puget Sound as in the summer months.

@@SeattleRingHunter makes sence. I do a lot of flyfishing and love the clear water. This is my channel name.

I did part of my Advanced PADI certification at this spot this summer and visibility was apparently uncommonly good that day. Probably 30-40 feet at least, which was a nice change from the previous day at Redondo Beach where we had about 6 inches of visibility. I've been thinking about doing some scuba crabbing, thanks for the video!

Where are the crabs hiding? How far out do you need to go from the beach in order to find them? Are they close to those those decks?
@SeattleRingHunter

From what I have heard they are noting like they once were at this site. Hard to find legal size crab but still fun 🤙

@@SeattleRingHunter wow that's so sad. can't believe we are overfishing them.

@@zk1476 used to be a refinery or something in that area with a lot of piling that created more of a food source. That’s all gone now so the crabs are in decline for this site.

Congrats on your SCUBA certification. I don't go crabbing every season so I'm not so reliable on that but if your local to the PNW I have a great resource to share with you. Go to FaceBook page and join this group "Moss Bay Divers / PNW Scuba" with nearly 3k local divers post a comment that your looking for a crabbing buddies to dive with and I'm sure you will find some great new friends. The same "Moss Bay Divers / PNW Scuba" can be found on MeetUp. May all your dives be memorable! Thank for visiting my channel. Cheers, #SeattleRingHunter

Been there and done that. Herds of crabs moving sideways and legal males buried up to there eyeballs. There are also halibut that, for some reason, swim in vertical circles off the bottom, maybe some kind of defensive behavior.
