We did an hour dive on this wreck last week. Got way too friendly with a very long conga eel when trying to get a photo. So chilled out he threaded himself in between my hosing and got comfy, sat there until we got to the 6m stop before i got him out
This will be of use for marks Weymouth & Portland Wrecks & Marks. goo.gl/maps/SoPTUoJCwvXrbpXh6 It has no shot line. Suggest diving from hardboat Skindeep
the wreck is the British Submarine M2. It tragically sank due to an error with the watertight compartment storing the reconnaissance plane. The sub sank and was unable to surface after a training exercise. Nearly 70 submariners died in the incident in 1932. The wreck lies in about 30m of Portland Bill, Weymouth. It is quite intact with conning tower, open plane bay, plane launching catapult, hydroplanes, rudder etc. A dive involves a couple of circuits in a 20 min bottom time and can be done by experienced sport divers / advanced. Lots of life - congers, tompot blennies, bib, ling, lobsters and crabs among others. Please respect the war grave though!! God rest those poor lads. I always say a prayer for them when I visit.
oh my God how interesting but very sad. I'm going to Google it now. Thank you so much for giving me all that information and thank you for uploading this video! I'm fascinated with Weymouth, Chesil Beach and Portland Bill...curious about diving too :-)
