Morning great video as usual, one to be trusted. You could try sliding the top section back just to test the xp suggestion before cutting a top shaft down .very interested in a result
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons 2 года назад
That would certainly be a good way to test it out to see if in fact the problem is the coil being too close to the upper rod. I have a feeling XP's analysis is correct but I will test it out next time I go diving.

I had the same trouble and only solved collapsing the upper shaft.I hated to literally face the remote among my forearm and the armrest.I still don't have enough hours on it to speak about effectiveness against 3030-Exc. I also found the Beach program at 24kHz to be hotter and manageable. Nice and honest video as usual🔥

You definitely sound like a diver! The problem I find with collapsing the upper shaft is the control box will be banging against my forearm and I won't be able to access it efficiently. With a 7 mil suit and 7 mil gloves that go well above your wrist, it's just not manageable.

@@DetectorComparisons You're right. I'm a scuba diver too and I always need to change shaft to properly dive with any machine. Too bad for the price, to be forced and buy another one for the purpose 😑. I also don't like the s-handle and prefer the straight setup with Anderson style handle. I'll do a carbon monotube with a different remote clip system to keep it horizontally on a side among armrest and handle like an Excal dive shaft.

The way I see it, the frogs do certain things well but fail elsewhere. The XP Deus 2 does at least three things well: detects iron accurately, provides excellent separation between targets, especially with the 9-in coil, and the VDI values for a given target are mostly consistent but can vary among that metallurgies - as expected. All of those features from XP are great to have. I have seen it all with metal detectors having owned approximately 10 of them. With regard to the problems you raised, I have seen this issue with other classic, long- shafted detectors, multipurposed for both land and water, and the outcome was the same - it doesn't work or is not ideal. Commercial diver detector configurations are always short - shafted and it is rare that you need anything longer - though, if you are operating anywhere where Sea Rays bury themselves in the sand, it can be good so that you don't get stabbed with the barb if they are startled. Aside from that, a short, metal detector shaft is key to good ergonomics underwater. So how to overcome the issues with the XP underwater? Perhaps mount a perpendicular handle, such as the one found on the Minelab Sovereign, halfway down the shaft towards the coil. A more expensive but more professional solution might be those that come from Anderson shafts and they make great underwater accessories not only for XP but for your Minelab Excalibur. Anderson will charge you $200 for the privilege of one of their diver - centric metal detector shafts. Thanks again for the great report. Brittany @ Lobsterclawz Recovery.

Saw that and first thought was uh oh that's not gonna work well collapsed like that. The coil can pick up the upper shaft when it's less than a foot away, depending on angle some. I heard they are working on a dive upper shaft. I bought a spare (with the cam lock and remote mount) to make a shorter upper for when water warms up for diving here, kinda waiting for them to offer one i the meantime. Only trick will be getting the two little screw holes lined up the remote mount holes, or I guess E6000 glue would probably hold that mount in the stem. Come on XP, get on it and we need the WSS XL's too, please.

I made my own carbon fiber shaft for my equinox with all plastic connectors and coil nuts for $30. Maybe you could make something similar for the d2.. tricky part would be figuring out how to attach the control head....but even if you used electrical tape to fasten the head to the shaft it would be a quick fix for diving with no metal interference for a true test.
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons 2 года назад
I'm hoping to get a shaft from XP shortly but it sounds like your idea would work. I look forward to seeing how the D2 does at the same spot where there's a lot of deep targets.

Thanks for helping us all out, greatly appreciated. $1800 is a lot of money but after flooding 1 Nox I’m torn between the D2 and Excal. For mostly underwater fresh and salt water any advice would be greatly appreciated. Mahalo 🤙🏽🙌🏼

I like the D2 and if you're wading with it you'll be just fine. If you want to dive with it, you either need the dive rods or you have to extend the coil away from the upper shaft. The Excall is a fantastic water machine but the D2 gives you more options and versatility. I'm primarily a diver and a land hunter so I really look forward to the dive shaft set up so I can test this out again. On land has been working great.

QUESTION; Why not get a spare lower shaft and saw it down for diving? I know it’s a little trouble but your other dive machines look like full time dive setups that would be a pain to switch for land if you had to. Just a thought because I plan to dive with mine too, thanks.
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons 2 года назад
I think you're missing the problem. Getting a spare lower shaft and cutting it down would not solve the issue. The stock lower shaft is inserted all the way into the upper shaft so shortening the lower shaft would not have an effect. If I had an extra upper shaft, I can customize that but again it will be much easier when XP comes out with their dive setup.

gday from oz been waiting for the new fisher aqua but have allmost given up on it,have the tdi pro and the beach hunter hoping the beach hunter would be as good as the pro but its not,is the deus 11 up to the tdi pro depth if i thought it was i would go for that,its lightness is attractive although the task of charging three bits seperate is annoying.cheers.
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons 2 года назад
I have a lot of years with the TDI Pro on the beach and it is no doubt deeper than the D2. It's hard making that comparison though because they are two different animals, the TDI Pro being a pulse unit. I have the TDI Beach and I upgraded the battery so it does give me a little more depth but the TDI Pro still beats it cleanly by a couple inches on nickel size targets.

I won't throw the towel in on the D2 for diving just yet. If they come out with a non-metallic upper shaft, I'll give it another test. In wet saltwater sand, it is deeper than my Excal so I'm real curious how it's going to do once they come out with the dive rods.

@@DetectorComparisons i find the Deus 1 & 2 way to chatty/jumpy and unsettled; too noisy and erratic the way i hunt with my NOX, i know i'm getting just about everything that is in any particular location and it is a joy to use. i regularly go to tons of places that are"hunted out" by every make & model machine...and i routinely find lots of deep quiet silver and copper that the other operators rushed past.....
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons 2 года назад
@@davemiller8215 I also love the Nox especially wading. On land, I've given the D2 a lot of hours and I have to tell you once you learn the machine it does extremely well. I have areas that I've been hunting along with many other people for 30 plus years. Most of these places are left for dead but I've gone back with the D2 and found some really interesting stuff. My buddy uses his Nox on land and we always compare signals. So far we are able to hear each other's good deep targets.

@@DetectorComparisons hey bud.....was just watching the vid you posted 5/6.....comments were turned off so i figured i would pop over to this thread and continue if thats OK?!?! ......anyways, have always wondered why you do not use some sort of hand held sifter on those dives as it seems to take you massive amounts of time(using up your air supply) waiting for the water to become ever remotely visible after you fan it up and make it wildly cloudy...... and also, you scored some nice silver dimes//by the looks of them, it must be brackish or salt water you are searching; so i was wondering how you clean theM? you can see the barber is encrusted with ??....but it seems if you can get that released, you would have a decent dime
@DetectorComparisons
@DetectorComparisons 2 года назад
@@davemiller8215 I don't understand why the comments are off, must be some silly algorithm with RU-vid. I manually turn them back on twice but the comments keep shutting off. Anyways, if you try to use a sifter well diving and there is mud and rocks, all you will be doing is moving yourself through the water. I've tried several different techniques over many many years and the quickest most efficient way is just digging with your hand.
