When we use available light, we are consciously looking for the right light to help make our subject pop, to create the feeling of 3 dimensions in a 2-dimensional medium, to add drama and emotion. Why then, do many photographers immediately fall back on flat and often times uninteresting light when given the chance to make their own? Join Daniel Norton OnSet as he demonstrates why creating, controlling, and "sculpting our subjects" with light is the foundation of great photography. Daniel will use a variety of tools to take our portrait from flat too dimensional. Daniel Norton a Photographer and Educator working for over 20 years in the advertising and editorial markets. Daniel also produces and hosts FREE training videos on his RU-vid channel as well as the Adorama TV series On Set with Daniel Norton. I just love watching OnSet with Daniel Norton, I have learnt so much from his videos. I only got my first camera this February yet I think I have watched all of Daniel's OnSet Live videos with Adorama. I only got my first camera in Feb yet I have been addicted to photography ever since and learnt so much! Photography has taken over my life! My Mrs and kids only see me with my camera in my hand now!

The user who complained about 'So many moves to make bad pictures' clearly did not understand what sculpting really means. In my view you did a fine job -- sure it was a more relaxed session but when you or Seth made an adjustment, it was purposeful and the results were fine. Too many of us just throw light out there. It was an eye-opener for me to see the subtlety of your adjustments and the resulting images. Erica was also superb! I learned very much (as I always do from your sessions)!

As always, the improvising, laid on top of your "standard" lighting setups, produces several interesting moods, which I liked. Thanks, Daniel, Erica, and Seth. (Erica's tan from this summer adds a lot to the perceived warmth, which I also liked.) Take care!

Thanks a lot for the tips & tricks you teach us, you're making a great job ! I do love the funny way you experiment and show multiple results. Only one thing, wich could lead to some people not to watch, is the length (in time) of your videos... Hope you'll try to reduce it in the future.. 😜But again, thank you for great lessons !

Good stuff - lots of fun - thanks :). Do you guys think you could blow Adorama's yearly budget on a microphone for Seth? Or maybe do a Kickstarter campaign for it? Or just pick up one that lies around and plug it in? ;)

When you set the AF to eyeball AF is the camera eyeballing the AF then? 😅

...what about the white floor? won't that cause the light to bounce up effecting the light out come (since you have it pointed at the floor)?
@frankwoodbery2473
@frankwoodbery2473 4 года назад
Yes, a white floor would bounce some light but the direction is not directly back at Erica and lots of drop-off due to much further distance, the 1/R (squared) thing.

How does so many moves translate into bad pictures. I am still learning and perhaps you have something new to bring to the table, please elaborate 😎😎
