Yeah i had alot of fun entering a city and sniping as many puppets i could before entering. Now i barely see any zombies even inside POI. Most of them come from rare horde spawns if i kill 1 or 2 puppets around a town lol such a weird spawn system. I wish they still just wandered around

I was hoping this update would have me coming back but it very much looks the same as before, especially in the bunkers... I miss the days where I would take note of where the puppets where as I passed through a area, and could then use them to locate or cause a trap against enemy players, the distance before they despawn is a step in the right direction though, it means u can to a certain range get a idea of where the puppets around u will be, and u could get them to spawn and then peel back to take them out at range now at least, the storage stuff is more of a expected addition, the puppets is a NEEDED fix

Almost like i can't snipe them or sit and overwatch a settlement now. Almost like its pointless to try to get immersed. Defending the game does nothing but allow the devs to keep making it worse. Hold them accountable. White knighting only hurts the games. We want it to be great and be a game we can play for a long time.

Just here to support you, Wardog. I’m sorry to see, and to say, that I’m not seeing anything here that will prompt me to return to scum in the near future. I got a bad feeling when cosmetics were introduced, and an even worse one when the devs sold themselves to the other company.

For me. The biggest problem is puppets respawning in front of you and in rooms you just cleared. That completly rips the immersion and screws me over. Its unfair to have to contend with beepers spawning ontop of you. The boats and storage update is hype af.

The respawning puppets in high danger areas has a cooldown. It was greatly extended in this update. It was only a minute or two before. Now it’s more like ten minutes.

​@@JimTheCoffeeGuy The funniest thing is that when Update The Horde came out, there was this exact option before to set the respawn time in the server settings, but I don't know why the hell they removed it. Now they've implemented this option natively again and pretended that it's part of the fix... in the end they haven't done a damn thing about it!

😂😂😂😂 horde system isn't what's causing you issues my dude. You'll be back and due to not playing you will struggle a lot. Your issue is a hypersensitive ai spawn management system that is intentionally being used to fast track a systematic process through AI. I highly suggest fine tuning settings involving such on single player while God mode is active and taking advantage of the easy escape of simply running away in a straight line. My guess is you are using a laptop speaker at 40% windows volume and trying to melee everything like some Chad while paying no mind to audio cues from puppets, particularly directional, distance, and aggro/alerted. Did you know if you aggro 3 or less of any type of Puppet then a 20# bow and the lowest quality arrows can manage it without a single puppet yelling, more if you land headshots consistently.

Imo the horde system is not a bad mechanic itself. The problem is how this mechanic is executed and the bugs that occur with it (i.e) random horde spawns even tho (in theory) you shouldnt alert the zombies, or that the zombies spawns right next to/behind you or inside the textures etc.

@@bezly8867 You're not wrong. I do like the general idea of the horde system. I even like the horde itself. My issue with it is the loss of immersion and that it's so easy to camp POIs. As soon as you spot a puppet shambling around a POI you know 100% there's players around. Minor bother is the spawning in the buildings around town (i.e. police stations). I think puppets should be there* in 300-500m distance to the player. I don't want or need them 360° around me and I understand that this distance would be quite a big drain on server resources but that way we'd get back the immersion. *"there" might be some way of the server knowing and remembering the puppets coordinates/health/etc and only rendering them in when they're in your line of sight - just like players. I don't know if that would help with server performance though. I could imagine that all this showing and hiding puppets might strain resources just as much as if they'd just be there all the time.

Omg wardog this is nothing I have expected. Great great update! It's weird though that they are going for spawning puppets... It just doesn't makes sense from the survival perspective. You are right, people look for immersion.

Puppets definately need to spawn from farther out, 150m at least, need to seriously see how bunkers are behaving overall, a quick runin to see how close you need to get for spawn does highlight the issue with the way their encounter manager is setup. But if I can clear an area, and it not have any new spawns for 30 minutes or so, then it will at least feel a little better if not be entirely immersive. I think, we can ease up a bit on complaining about immersion if they can at least get this under control so things behave in a more beleiveable way, and then work back towards a more immersive state. I am starting to think they are still trying to really dial in the encounter manager and figure out how it behaves compared to how they thought it was going to behave. It's going to take a few more revisions to dial things in better, and I think exposing the encounter manager settings to admins is going to be the key to really getting it under control. Especially if with the standalone server software we get a proper admin panel, where we can customize encounters and tweak them for the experience we want to have on our servers.

Too far dosent work. Otherwise you have some areas with all the puppets on the server, and the rest of the map is empty for all other players. Same with respawn times. If too long it’s not immersive for other players in the area. If too short it’s never ending puppets. I do agree the spawn radius needs adjusting for some zones You are right on a big chunk of your other thoughts. It’s all down to dialling in the encounter manager for max performance for players, but also optimising it for the server side. All a juggling act that will get better with time.

Further away is a must. If I scout a city from afar I want to be able to spot them out, count them, snipe them, use them as a diversion for other players. It's so much more immersive than having them spawn in 10m away from you. It's just bad, even after this patch...

I love the storage update. The improvement of the puppet spawns seems a little better, but only if they do not respawn right in front or behind you after clearing an area.

We appreciate the work you do. Would be nice to see how the spawn system reacts to suppressed and unsuppressed pistols and rifles. Even if they keep this spawn system, perhaps they can work in elements of the wandering/sleeping puppets to give that 'seen at distance' experience. Have a few wanderers around in fields, streets and as a player moves in or engages them at distance, have it be a trigger to spawn in dynamic puppets.

They should have an "In doors" and "Out doors" spawn range. It doesn't matter if puppets spawn inside a building until you get within lets say 50m because you probably couldn't see them most of the time anyway. It's the puppets outside in the streets and open areas where they should be spawning at say 250m minimum, maybe more if the system can manage the load. I'd be happy with 50-100m indoors (like bunkers, PDs, etc.) It's the outdoor puppets that really need to spawn in sooner for me, I miss my sniper practice!

If you have high awareness you can just focus and listen. For example the gun shops. You will stop 5 meters away listening for movement and of course that is nothing.. when you open the door.. booooom.. 3 puppets. Not immersive

you need to be able to snipe beepers, having things spawn close is fine too, but you need to have distance spawns that make sense too otherwise rifles is basically a PvP skill the new additions are all a big W for me tho

Glad to have raft back, the inventory expansion is not bad (shame it can be found in the world and must be brought at trader). But spawn system still terrible, puppets need to spawn a couple hundred meters out so that places have puppets as you approach not spawning in front of you

May as well take out scopes and high power guns now. I mean, what use are the binoculars unless you want to see what the puppets face looks like? They should increase the spawn range by as far as the despawn range is and double (at least) the puppet count. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the update, CW! I like the storage update a lot. I could live with the "encounter system" even though I don't like it at all. My biggest issue is with puppet re-spawning in recently-cleared areas. Will be interesting to see whether they fixed this. If I clear a large area, like a town, and come back a few minutes later only to have all of the cleared puppets re-spawned and calling hordes that will be a no-go for me. I really love this game, but this re-spawning issue is really making me think twice about returning.

I have no idea what to think of this spawn system but, since isnt 1.0 and the new npc tec1 guards are confirmed thing, imagine that you have 2 or 3 tec1 guards that are spawned like the old system and this new system is just for puppets, i think this is what they will make in the future, or i hope so...it makes perfect sense

They need to make it so that wherever you can see puppets are already spawned. Even if you have a scope on a sniper rifle. Also as you approach the bunker they should spawn all puppets for the bunker and no more until 10mins after you leave the bunker.

Привет друг ! 🤝 Полностью с тобой согласен , что появление марионеток нуждается в более серьезной доработки , чем сейчас . Мне нравилось как было в начале , когда по городкам и лесам ходили зомби , а ты их мог уничтожать из укрытия или на расстоянии . Тем более это будет уместно , если они введут вооруженных ботов . Сейчас система появления марионеток не годиться . Хорошо , что ввели плоты и расширенные хранилища . Удачи брат 👍

Καλησπέρα. Wardog check how the TNT place is with the puppets. Especially after you kill them.how are they respawn. In my opinion the only way to get both immersion and their system is to divide the map in zones and when a player enters a zone to get the puppets. All at once i meant. Maybe have a timer for the respawn and after 30 min a new patch of zombies respawn. Something like that. Unless we turn scum in arcade game. If that happens we switch in dayz. We have options

The revised spawn mechanic only works at the default spawn rate. If you manually increase the amount of puppets in the world, it still doesn't work, but the devs warned you about that. For me personally the game is dead if the spawn system stays like this. On hardcore servers this spawn mechanic is simply deadly. You have to be able to spy on a location from afar and switch off the puppets from a distance, which is no longer possible.

I feel as long as I dont hear them spawn in and they are far enough away, its an improvement. but beepers are the ones you hear that do break immersion. Its good now that they stay longer before despawn, but one thing to test is the cooldown. Can we clear a police station and loot in peace for 5 mins or do the come out of bushes around the perimeter almost instantly after killing one inside? I think a fix for the beeper could be an animation if it has not seen you it should remain silent and passive, slow walking and looking at the floor, but there should be no threat of just running into it in that state. This would be more immersive than just suddenly hearing the beeping. Once it sees you or hears you, it should start an animation of the scream the regular pups do, and a secondary animation where it arms its vest ( just a simple hand motion to the chest) but both of these should be performed while stationary, meaning if you are just running thru the bunker and one spawn around the next corner you are not going to run into it in a live state, the two stationary animations should give you about 5 or 6 seconds to back up, turn and kill it before it starts sprinting at you. I guess we could tell ourselves for immersion, the beeper activates via radius to our bcu, hence why we dont hear it till close... But at a fuel station previously, I ran from one as I had no ranged weapon prepared in my hot keys and when I returned it had simply despawned, I start looting and another one spawns in a bush, giggling and beeping. Its the audio of the beepers that sets them aside from the regulars making them more immersion breaking.

Why is it so hard for the devs to give us a setting for the distance trigger. Are they stupid? If I have a server for like say 20 people, what do the devs care of when the puppets spawns.

It still feels to me as if they took the spawn code from the old killbox system and used it with the horde-summoning scream - so you get four to eight puppets dropping on you from above. The system from 2-3 years ago was still far far better with separate puppet generators for roaming, internal to POIs, and external around them. As it stand right now, any weapon other than a spray and pray mass lead-dumper is pointless in PvE. Right now you cannot snipe out the puppets before entering a locality, and with the spawn distance as it now is you risk having hordes triggered on top of you when trying to snipe through windows or round corners (e.g. in the Police station).

Why aren't there just like, fixed puppet spawns on timers? I'm sure its rather complex but bunkers are a CONSTANT and i feel like if just spaces like that or specific large poi's just HAD enemies in them it would feel a lot better. I still go into random buildings with nothing at all around me and even when sneaking the whole time 5 just spawn around me.

I think the fact they even went this far this soon is a good sign...I think they will make it better in the future, I cant see any other way it would be stupid to make so much content and not fix things that dont work... just have to wait a little longer... Side note: have a good and safe house moving trip!!!

Doing all this storage space for cars but cars glitch thru the map all time and you lose all your loot just more ways to make I think you loot is safe but the game just gonna snatch it back when it feels like it

Love your content CW and you even got me back on official servers because I can't stand that every US server has to have bot shops even though we have traders in the game for like easily over a year now. You said it best official is for psycopaths but I'd rather be crazy than let a server hold my hand in a game that is supposed to have some degree of difficulty and it feels like you can only get that difficulty on official

Hey puppets aside (and it does look like they have done a fair bit of work, but still room for improvement which they admit) Storage on dirt bikes and rafts is a MASSIVE +++. But for now I'm pretty much done with Scum

The spawn system keeps gradually improving since .95 changes. First inside trees and on roofs to increased radial distances from player, hyper scaled timeframes and all the other subtle changes. It is almost textbook as to what Devman said in a massive forum post years ago and what I've been saying to complainers who don't understand the process. The rate of perfecting is ahead of schedule and thankfully they are forcing us to deal with a hypersensitive spawn system otherwise we might not see 1.0 until late 2025. From a players perspective, this is the perfect time to git gud and prepared for the struggle so so many will face, especially if new players come and have to deal with the brutal PvE after 1.0 and early 1.0. (thankfully we have a bug out system where we can simply just run away, similar to the "if you get stuck, equip torch") In conclusion, remember that the number of human assets actively developing this game is very low and certain things require AI assistance. It could be faster and better with direct human interaction but then other things would be neglected. Pick your poison.

They asked for feedback in the patch notes and here is the feedback.. the spawn system is still not good and making it right is taking too long.. when will be fine a lot of people won't play the game anymore.. That's the reality.. people don't care how the game will be in 2025.. they wanna be good now.. this is the painful truth and they need to fix the things ASAP.. the improvements in that last 4 months are not enough.. almost insignificant.. the core issues of the system are still there and will be for a long time

In my consideration, i think we need to focus on playability of the spawn system... i know inmersion is a good thing on survival games, but this was just broken before. Id like to see you doing an abandoned bunker and check if the respawns are still there; i stopped playing because beepers respawning 3 mts from me and destroying the loot on my backpack after killing them... that was the most annoying thing i experienced on a videogame

@@casual.wardog this didnt happened to me on a server; it was on solo play... ive been not playing on servers since november around because the team i had isnt playing anymore and i start seeing the broken puppets going through walls. Now im focusing on getting better to play solo. When i got this bug of respawn i experienced it while doing abandoned bunker silently, and was like 1 month ago... the problem i experienced on this was a broken respawning of puppets, it happened like 7 or 8 times before; but i can handle common puppets; not a beeper that destroys my loot on the backpack that felt on the floor while i was trying to deal with razors and puppets freshly spawned on the room i cleared before.

it was before like that when you clear them than you go 100 meters distance they spawn back in the building like police i mean so if you forget something there you need to clear them again ??

Won't spawn that fast again if you kill them(on default settings). On the first approach the puppets will spawn like you saw in the video

You cant just spawn a whole town worth of puppets for every player on the map just in case they might go there. The spawning at the last minute ensures everyone gets puppets, without having hundreds clogging up the server.

I prefer the world to be alive too. Thank you Wardog for testing the new update! As I play more in SP I've already decided... I'm going to rollback to the previous update before they release this crappy spawn system. I found out how to do it and roll back the game to an old patch.

Puppet despawn ive tested should be ~100m when no line of site, and closer to ~140-160m if you maintain line of sight. There are still more improvements to come. Please make sure to put some more hours on the game playing normally and revisit your thoughts on the puppets. im curious to see how they play longer term

The puppets used to spawn differently.. when we approached a POI the puppets used to be already there and you could just snipe them from 150m away.. was immersive.. now puppets are spawning a few meters away from you.. they are not walking around before you are next to them.. it's destroying the immersion heavily.. they can't fix the system because is not broken.. they programed it to be like that and is not ok for a survival game like SCUM

@@JimTheCoffeeGuyThe puppets need to be spawned in an area BEFORE you enter it. The old system you could recon the area and see where the zombies were that were wandering in the street or just outside the town. You could stealth your way around them. Now you see nothing until you are in the town or POI and then suddenly they are everywhere. Can you imagine what a disaster that will be when bandit AI with guns are put in the game. This is just awful game mechanics.

There should be a minimum of 10-30 puppets at any given time anywhere... If its about optimization... Can't they make it so that they render at the most basic and minimum state until you approach the radius, instead? I .ean i came up with that so easily, surely maybe they tried that and it still didnt work. For whatever reason... In DayZ you approach a poi and they seemingly are already there roaming.

I am glad for the rafts making it back into the game and for inventory expansion on vehicles but puppets spawn system is still pretty bad.. takes away any tactical purpose of the game and any purpose to have a very long range gun... also the game feels pretty much dead if you are watching a huge area with zero puppets around unless you get close... i hope they increase the puppet spawn distance to 200 and add extra spawn distance when youre on focus mode which would rely on awareness skill for how much extra distance it would load.. they probably will never make this happen but we can still believe..

Popcorn puppets are gone on default settings.. now it's a longer time between the spawns so won't spawn as fast as before in the same spot

The game, which aims for realism and immersion down to the smallest details, falls short with its AI spawning system the most important thing that makes it somewhat challenging since we have 0 interactions on a 40-60 player server due to the huge map... . It's confirmed: they're really flooring it on the downhill !! i mean if the players see the problems the devs surly have to see it too right ? they have popular successful examples like dayz and tarkov to learn alot from and yet they tried to fool the fans once again !! i miss the 0.4-0.6 scum devs ... they are not the same now . i feel like they are doing this on purpose to distract the fans from alot of features they cut off from the game, they are gonna make us feel it is what it is and then suddenly fix it to make us say yea the game is good now and so are the devs!

I dont really like the new system, the old puppet system where you walk into a house and see a zombie lying down and sometimes even get jumpscared that was really fun. Personally I think they coul´ve improved that system instead of changing it, I never experienced frame drops nor lag with that system tbh, so I dont really know why they changed it

I always love new content, but they removed the overlap on modular BB elements. I get it for the possible exploits or something, but they didn't give us any other options. Whats up with that? We have one window, a wall, door, and roof. That's it. There were almost a dozen ways to build a base before and now there is just one. And after we get used to building with the new rules they are going to wipe again to take away something else. Sad.

Did the Devs ever mentioned any Sound Change? The biggest Problem in Scum is how Sound can pass through 10m thick Concrete Walls in Atomic Bomb Bunkers. That's the most annoying shit in this Game by FAR! You are deep inside the Bunker and Zombies hear you while they are outside the Bunker running around in a Bush like WTF?? You hear Footsteps in the Grass while you are inside a Bunker!!! Even more annoying that People don't complain about it. I never see someone mentioning it. Do you guys like it that way?? Seems like it 😡 I love Scum but if they dont fix this with 1.0 im not getting back to this Game ever.

yeah, we want immersion. we had it why did they ruin it. the climbing through windows, going through doors change is what was missing. and maybe puppets should roam inside houses too. if u charge in and headshot em before they can get up, its to ez. also they shouldnt get up and scream at me, instead straight run at me

Devs are masters at gaslighting. Our expectations have been slowly eroded to the point where we are happy if the puppets dont spawn 1m from our face. It would be hilarious if it wasnt a game a truly cared about! But sadly my no1 game has become a chore to play. A real labour of love! I dont understand why the devs are hell bent on forcing this system on us! Its horrible.

It’s now, not triggering…the puppets are taking away from the game. It’s making it worse. I think 1.0 there will be armed npcs and little to no puppets except in abandon bunkers.
