Congratulations Bryce, I'm Tomas, I've practiced FMDX for a few years now, I'm in the Canary Islands, Spain. I own several SDRPlay. I have always used an old version of SDR# (1361), and the others that I have tried (SDRuno, etc) have not convinced me. I'm going to install this latest version of the Console, I find it very interesting. I just have to know how to use the Notch filter option, does it exist in the console software? Thanks Bryce and good luck!!!
Hi, I'm so sorry I never replied to this. You may have figured this out (or moved on) by now. But as far as I know, there is not a manual notch filter (for say, tuning around a strong carrier or noise) for FM in SDR Console. But you may want to browse the SDR Console documentation and "groups.io" board where they discuss some of the new features in the tool. There is an automatic notch feature/button, but I think it is designed for use in SSB mode. Good luck!
I just finished building a 5 element FM yagi, K6STI design. I really want to focus on the FM band in 2024. I am using an Elad S2 and SDR console. Would you recommend putting the yagi vertical or horizontal? Right now I’m testing my setup with an horizontal config. 73 K3DY
Hi there - apologies for being so late to respond! FM Broadcast signals are usually circularly polarized (about 90% of the time), so you can orient your antenna in either way without much effect. Most of us mount antennas horizontally which is naturally best to avoid interaction with metal masts, and generally patterns are better. Brian (K6STI) has some more information about that on his site. Good DX, and sorry again for the delayed reply.
Great ideas in this video, thanks again for doing these. Very cool to actually get some Es while you were recording! I'm torn now... do I leave my recently revived Rabbit Ears logger running (Brookfield, IL) or do I record some spectrum instead? I've only got 1 RSPdx, maybe I should buy another one :)
