sea of thieves has one of the most agreeable in game monetization methods imo, a live service game cant survive and keep being updated on box sale price alone because eventually the sales of the game taper off massively, a subscription service would suck, microtransactions are the lesser of two evils, theres nothing "pay to win" in the shop either which is a massive plus and although i wasnt too fond of the idea of a battle pass system in sea of thieves its once again the best one ive seen from the games ive played, usually the free pass in most games drip feed you rewards to entice you into buying the season pass but on sot its the opposite, the free pass has rewards every level with the paid one being every few levels or so, also you can get the premium currency in game for free either from the pass or rare ancient skeleton spawns, they also made the seasons easy to grind and they last quite a while so even if youre a casual player you can usually get to level 100
