Bayside Marine (Port Isabel, TX) graciously accepted the job of troubleshooting a small outboard and for that I am eternally grateful. The shop was spotless and the crew was tasked with fixin' bigger fish however, “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” - André Gide.
So these guys found the problem, fixed it, and sent me on my way - over the horizon.

How did the 6hp go with the truekit 330? Get it plaining?

Nothing like the sound of a 2 stroke, I know it’s a 4-stroke.

I have almost the same set up but can't get mine to plane. Tiller extension might be the difference maker.

you don't need an extension with a 5 or 6hp unless you are too heavy. put all your bags and fuel tank close to the bow & don't forget to lift up the transom wheels

Cup the prop. That stopped the cavitation enough to get the boat to plane out of the water. It's a common problem with inflatables.

@@edwardholman7023when you say cup the prop you mean get a different pitch? Isnt it a bit much to cup such a small prop? Do you mind saying what size and pitch you are running? thx

I'm curious about this too. Just bought a 5hp propane for the truekit. Wondering how to get it running best

What speed do you get with 6 hp
@edwardholman7023
@edwardholman7023 Год назад
With 300 pounds about 12 to 14 miles per hour
@boatsandoutboards9070
@boatsandoutboards9070 Год назад
If the boat and the driver is light enough, 16mph or 27km/hr is the limit for a 6hp I'm 95kg (200lbs) and my top speed is 25km/hr. with a 9.8hp you can get 35kmph with a correct setup

@@boatsandoutboards9070 I can portage a 58 lb engine farther than a 100 lb engine. Weight was the determiner of the engine type due to intended uses.

@@edwardholman7023 that's true if the boat can plane with the smaller engine.

@@boatsandoutboards9070 It's why you need to have the prop cupped. Costs about $30.
