Revisiting this in 2023, still can’t forget seeing him perform this live in Dublin almost 9 years ago, no words to describe how good this guy is

Laurie! I totally agree with you. I cried! When you compare this to his performance of the psychopath Moriarty in The recent Sherlock Holmes TV series, you truly see a master actor at work. This is brilliant!

David. The point is that it is a monologue. The drama is the revelation of what his real feelings are referring to as he begins to unravel, feelings-wise. This is so excellent. Crushing on Andrew!

This is a gift. It’s Andrew’s little snorts and snuffles when he laughs at himself….and you get to the end and I’m lost for words. Andrew Scott’s emotional intelligence is off the scale. Praise to writer and actor. I’ll watch it again. 🐑🐑🇳🇿🇳🇿NZ

He’s absolutely mesmerising. You can’t take your eyes off of him, the emotion he channels through his facial expressions.. You turn the volume up because you need to hear every word he has to say, every waver of emotion in his voice… The only thing I wish is that I hadn’t watched this on a Sunday morning when I know it’s undoubtedly going to occupy my mind for days. Thank you Andrew Scott for everything you do, a true artistic genius of the last two decades ❤

Oh my! Devastating and brilliant. Andrew has always fascinated me as an actor. He is of course extremely talented, but his face and expressions are such an amazing facet of his acting. I can’t take my eyes off him. Riveting.

the last lines "just because we don't know doesn't mean we won't know. we just don't know yet. but i think one day we will. i think we will." are a direct reference to the earlier conversation with alex and his father-in-law about God. his father-in-law spoke about how we just can't know everything in response to alex's question about where God is. alex responds "yet" and speaks about how we just don't know yet where God is. he speaks about people from long ago who also thought a lot of things were unknowable, yet with societal advancements we've had, we now know - so much so that things like electricity or medicine seem simple to us. in the end, i believe he's speaking about God and his implied faith in light of the death of his child, knowing he'll meet his daughter again. "one day we will. we will." similarly, alex also speaks about the embarrassing feeling once returning to shore of the thought that there was no sea wall. i think this can be in reference to God too. once we see Him or heaven or whatever it will be; perhaps God too will seem simple in the end, and we'll also be embarrassed we once thought He wasn't there. i really really love this piece so much.
