Why do some inconsiderate idiots think it’s ok to park illegal on the pavement where there are double yellow lines making it even more difficult for the launch of the lifeboats.
What matters is it being launched maybe slightly slower than a ramp launch but it's going fair or a ten blowing onshore it's going n I hope n pray everyone on a shout comes back alive where ever they are
40 years in emerg response and I just cant fathom this insanity. So much for speedy response, wonder how many people die waiting on this slow launch system...how absurd!
+Sir Never Wrong Very true. I don’t know why they launch it like this. But at Seahouses harbour, when the tide is out, it becomes pretty shallow which would probably hamper launching the boat off a ramp into the sea. Possibly why they do it this way ?
Sir Never Wrong how else would you expect the boat to launch in a very shallow tidal harbour? Please read into things or at least have a general understanding of how tides, harbours, boats and launches work before commenting
@GinSkimPivot Ill thought out? no it isn't! The Mersey Class Lifeboat was designed to be carriage launched for places with very low tides and shallow beaches/harbours. There is no way of doing it quicker in these kinds of places. Don't even try and slate these people when you have zero experience of the work. I'm an ex-Mersey class crewman myself.
GinSkimPivot the launch tractor is also designed specifically to launch the Mersey Class Lifeboat, which is designated an FCB - Fast Carriage Boat. They come as a unit with the carriage. Tracks are far less likely to get bogged, which is important as the Mersey when carriage launched can be taken to any launch site and be launched over any surface in any conditions. There are Lifeboat stations with a longer launch distance than this at low tides and it really isn’t a problem, speed depends on what the job they are being called out to is. All-Weather Lifeboats are strategically located around the coast of the U.K. and their placement is reviewed every 5 years at the stations Coast Review. It was placed at Seahouses because that is where it is best located. A smaller Pacific RIB etc cannot do the full role of an ALB or be launched in all of the conditions that an ALB can. If they could then the concept of the ALB would be pointless. We have ALBs for a reason, and they are located where they are for a reason.
