Sealand model 510 RV Toilet Replacement...another proof the industry hates me!

Here is my long awaited Sealand 510 toilet review and installation....lol!
In what should have been a job that took longer to clean up than actually perform, I replace an old toilet in a 2005 Winnebago Vectra. At this point I am confident the RV industry has nothing but disdain for me and other technicians. Though the model number is the same, Dometic changed the mount and style of the base of the toilet.
Here is merely a warning to others now.
Thanks!

Looks like the $38 ball valve kits and 15min tops to change once it’s out would have been easier. I’ll tell you when I get it back together lol. Great video wish I would have seen before I ordered the rebuild kit for the same reason my new toilet had two bolt also.

Made up my mind about repairing mine within the first minute of the video. LOL...... Ordered a whole new one.

I have a Dometic 310 right now and need a new one since it’s leaking where the porcelain and plastic comes together. If there’s room would the 510 be a good replacement model? I would get a new 310 but see that people are having the same issue.

According to the book that came with our Newmar ours is a Sealand 511+ and the one they had at that time like the one you got as a replacement is the 110 traveler lite. It only uses 2 screws on the flange and 2 screws in the back into the floor. I'm putting a new foot valve on ours but of course the brand new one leaks at the bottom cap. They hate me too. Lol

Thanks, your advice will help a lot. But I have a question. Our new camper has the Dometic 300 plastic toilet. I'd like to change it out for the 510. But I only have 9 1/2 inches from the bolts to the wall behind the toilet. Will the 510 fit ?

Hahah.... I found this video on an internet search, clicked on it, and saw the title, "Sealand model 510 RV Toilet Replacement...another proof the industry hates me!", and I thought to myself, "Hmm... A title like that... I wonder if this is AZ Expert...", scrolled down and... well you know the rest. ;-)

I have a Sealand dometic. I guess the model # is in the back and not going to take off the toilet to find it, as no leaks, just a question. It's very tight quarters. It's a 2005, 22 ft Forest river. Dry bath. There's a small cap about two inches high 2-3" wide behind the toilet seat, labeled "Sealand Dometic". Does it just pop off? It has new plastic on it like for protection when new meant to be removed. I've tried to remove and it looks worse than before. I want to remove the cap to get it cleaned up, but I don't want to break if it's not meant to come off.

I am replacing the toilet in an older RV. It is a Sealand 210. The seals and the ball are scarred and need replacing. As you said it will be easier to replace the toilet. Which model is a replacement for the Sealand 210? I am worried about replacing with a different brand in case the mounting holes do not line up.

I replacing the 🚽 on a fleetwood 2000 was easy to do like you said take me like a hour and a half to finish the job XD

Right? It should almost take longer to unpack the new toilet than install it. I'm not glad to hear you also had problems, but it at least reassures me. Thanks!

I have a Vectra with the same toilet setup and I have replaced the floor flange but the toilet still leaks. The only indication of the leak, however, is in the storage compartment below the bathroom which fills with urine/water. STINKY! Not sure how to fix. I was thinking of next replacing the ball valve seal because when you lean on the toilet (like when you wipe your rear end) the bowl empties but there is no water leaking on the tile flooring just UNDER the bathroom into the storage compartment. Wouldn't I see water on the floor first? I wanted to replace the toilet but I am not sure if just the toilet is the problem and that maybe the connection to the floor in your video at 3:55 might be the problem as well. What do you think? Why after all these years have they not made a simpler toilet that doesn't freaking leak?!?! It seems like they all do. Any help is appreciated! Thanks for the video!

Winnebago uses grommets for all the pipes into the tank. These generally only leak if the tank is completely full. I suspect the black plastic base the bowl sits on has a crack in it. The only real way to know would be to remove the toilet and inspect the base. I personally do not find good cause to rebuild old toilets and would just replace it. Definitely examine the floor flange too. They tend to crack at the bolts and can leak there too.

Thank you for the video, after removing my 31 yr old 510 to replace a long worn out flange gasket. 2 of the flange bolts that are not with removal slots, just spin and one is broken off. You mentioned at times, having to do a procedure to the mounting flange , in order to install new flange bolts. Any help/suggestions will be appreciated. Again, Thank you for sharing.

Dometic has the 302751001 as a replacement for the 510 Plus maybe it has the original style base.

I have a 2015 dometic 310 and Is leaking around the base of the floor. I’ve replaced the ball valve gasket but still leaks. Also I noticed it holds with about 2 inches of water in the toilet but when I fill the bowl up a little more is when the water starts coming from the base of toilet. I’ve seen there has been this issue with this model and you can’t replace the gasket from the bowl to pedestal. Do you know if the newer ones have fixed this issue or should I look at buying a different model.

I have dificulty recommending repairing anything more than the sprayer, seat, and water valves on these toilets. It might be a good time to upgrade unfortunately. Thanks!

AZ Expert which one do you recommend as a replacement with a porcelain bowl. Thank you for your response

I never really liked the low power bowl rinse and weak seat setup of the 310 . The style plus from thetford is nice with a firmer base but the dometic 500 series with a sprayer seems the most robust and best manual toilet. Unfortunately, they all have some weak points, so it might be just as good to stick with the 310 and just get a new one

SSSOOOOOO-------the obvious question, which model DO I use? I have a 2005 Adventurer, the Vectra's gas sister

In your situation, really any toilet will work as even the new 510 will need to change the installation of the old one. The dometic/sealand have the most residential styling with a sprayer. The sealand 310 has the water connection and the pedal on the other side. I am not a fan of the 310 water valve's durability. Theftford's toilets are great for plastic cheap toilets but only the Aria series compare to the 510. Truthfully, I would stay with the 510 just with the knowledge that the flange setup is a bit different. thanks!

I am sick of our 510+ and would like to replace with a different brand all together. Our spacer is cracked. Is there a way to remove that easily?
@AZExpert

The spacer is held down by the toilet flange bolts only. Thanks!

@@AZExpert I appreciate the response. I am looking through yours and many others. You seem to be a pretty common sense guy so I was hoping for a bit more information. I live in my fifth wheel. I’m fine spending the money for an aria if they are reliable? I am with you and I don’t like the valves on the dometic 320, I also don’t think I would like the seat on a 510. So I’m looking for what you would recommend as a maintenance guy. I’m familiar with maintenance just not rv maintenance. My time is very limited and it will take me all summer to watch just the toilet videos. Could I get a phone consultation or something? I’m willing to pay. Or even just a what you would do if it was your rv and you lived in it year round? I really appreciate your reply and any help. I have used your videos and advice before and I trust your judgment more than others. Thank you for what you do the videos are very helpful. I just can’t wait all summer. My default plan was a 320 with a few spare parts on hand and a shit off valve with stainless steel braided connection.

Wow, what a joke replace a 500 dollar toilet because you didn't want to replace 100 dollars worth of parts.

To be fair, it's not a $500 toilet, and labor would have been $200 to fix and it would still be an old toilet but you make good points. I encourage everyone to do their own repairs. Thanks!
