Ok so I'm finding out that this might be avoidable if u wait 4 weeks before varnishing

Glue Sucks! It's mess to use & pain to clean up. Quit using it a long time ago.

A very beautiful painting! I prefer the glassy look so I use a resin coating. It’s very easy to pour and spread out.

Brush strokes are the enemy! Lol I'm happy I found this to work *most of the time* you have to be super patience and let it all run off otherwise it will crack. 😢 I have other I still need to test!

I think polyacrylic is giving a slight orange peel look, based on how often i see it reflected in the light. I would compare that to i believe general finishes poly. Glossy Clarity is in consideration, & urethanes have not let me down...but i am moving toward compound polishing for perfection.

Congrats, looks amazing! Would you apply this over a layer of UV protective spray or under? Also I assume a second coat could be applied to reduce the canvas texture? I am nervous to try varnishing haha
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe 3 года назад
Honestly I'm not sure. I re-read the jar (and the can for the spray version) neither indicates there's any uv protection. But I don't know which way is best. Sorry. 🙈🦒

I have used this method several times & had great results however I tried on a large canvas (24x48) and didn’t use enough product & added more after I realized it but it dried with a ridge Is there anyway that you know of to fix it? Can I pour an entire new layer over the dried layer? Will it settle evenly?

Is there a way to avoid stroke marks when you brush this on? I put pictures on top of a desk and an looking for a top finish. I tested this on a picture to but sure it was not going to run my inkjet picture and it left stroke marks.
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe 3 года назад
The pour and tilt method is the best method I have found to avoid brush strokes. You can also apply multiple layers to try to smooth out the brush strokes.

The odor isn't too bad from what I remember but if you are sensitive to smells then you may want to wear a mask. I just use the runoff to cover the sides.

Do you think this would be a good method for a 24x30 canvas??
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe 3 года назад
I would start smaller and work your way up and tinker with the technique as needed. I have had some paintings get thousands of micro-cracks during the curing process. I think I need to test the temperature in which it cures in. I think that plays a role in it.

Have you ever tried to put 10% floetrol into your polycrylic? I just am wondering if it would make it flow easier but not so much to create problems. I guess the scientist in me is ‘in the house’, lol

@@TheCharmingGiraffe I thin this stuff all the time with water. But then you would have to do two coats. I find it goes on so much nicer even with a paint brush. But that is with painting furniture so I don't know how it would work with canvas.

Your paintings look great dried. I tried your method twice on 2 paintings and both times the finish cracked. I don't think I will use again. Too afraid. I was hoping this would be an answer to my varnish issue. I have tried so many methods and products that I have seen on you tube but I still end up seeing some sort of brushstroke when using a small sponge brush, or brush, or a round sponge. Even tried the sprays. So frustrating because I love the glossy finish. The only time I am successful is when I use a resin but I don't want to finish everything with resin. Too expensive.
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe 3 года назад
I have had that happen too. I plan to do some experiments to see if I can find out what conditions cause the cracking. I have another new sealer video coming out tomorrow that I am very excited about. 🥳🥳🦒

Mine cracks too. I've gone back to using a trim brush and putting on several thin coats. I recently saw where someone sprayed the piece with water first, then used a soft brush and very thin layers. The water seemed to keep from drying too fast. That's my next try.

I don't work with oil paint but I know oils take forever to dry. You shouldn't seal a painting that isn't fully cured.

Polycrylic is NOT suitable for paintings of any kind. It's own website says quite plainly that it will amber. This means your painting will develop a deep yellow sheen as it ages. Always do your own research.
@KitKat-wr8sp
@KitKat-wr8sp Год назад
I don't recommend this at all. I did this on two of my small paintings and they both cracked. I am so frustrated because they were some of my best paintings. I will not be doing this method again. It is better to apply several small coats of varnish.
@TheCharmingGiraffe
@TheCharmingGiraffe Год назад
Yes cracking can occur if there's too much left on the canvas or if it's too cold. I have had success using this product though and it leaves a great gloss without the brush strokes 🎨🖌️🦒
