In this video I walk through how to pattern seamless trim! This design element is seen a lot in anime designs, but do not fear! It's not nearly as challenging as it looks. Once you've done it a few times you'll master it, and never have to have an inaccurate seam again! If anything is unclear/if you have questions drop a comment below or hit me up on my other channels!

Special thanks to Firewolf826, where I first learned of this technique. You can find the original tutorial here firewolf826.tumblr.com/post/3...

This was the only video I could find on this subject. Thank you for making it!

Aw thank you! Sometimes I wonder if there's a technical sewing term for it that I/the rest of just aren't aware of 😭 cause it is really hard to find tutorials of it...

i'm so glad it's helpful enough that people can apply it to other costumes! I know it's a bit harder when the costume isn't an exact match but yay!

Definitely needed the visual video aid! Thank you so much for this!! My one question I can't seem to figure out is on the side that wasn't sewn on (the fraying part from 10:02 and onwards), how is that perfect seamless look achieved on those ends? That was always the part on the original tutorial that confused me the most.

you mean on the outer edge, right? I added a lining. it's really hard to explain well on youtube without photos, but you can see on this post twitter.com/PaigeKnovice/status/1419156284566229000?s=20 i sewed the lining along all of the edges, then flipped the skirt inside out. If you're still having trouble visualizing it feel free to shoot me a dm on twitter or ig and i can send you more pics. although actually if you go just to the skirt section on this video you can see the lining attachment ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cIxNRf3SsjA.html (you could also use other finishing techniques like regular hemming or bias binding) but lining is the fastest

After attaching that front part, how are you attaching the raw edge? You serged the edges but the finished product won’t be showing the serged edges right? Are you folding it over and stitching in the ditch? I’m just confused. Looks like it would be good for “Straight” pieces. Finding it hard to visualize this technique on curves (especially that keyhole kind of design). Would love love love to see how you got to the finished project 💕

as far as I have found, you have to finish the raw edge of the trim by either lining the garment, or adding a facing. It's not possible to fold it over like traditional bias tape because the shape would result in raw edges being exposed. Once you add the facing or lining you could understitch or stitch in the ditch. Curves and keyholes u really gotta "trust the process" 😅 I had some much doubt when doing the curved collar trim and thought the pattern looked so strange, but then it worked out perfectly! My full Aelita tutorial will be out next month which will hopefully make the explanation more clear thanks to visuals (or u can message me and I can send u pictures). Is there a certain character/shape you're thinking of using this on?

Oh and I forgot your question about the serging! All the serged edges ended up being hidden/not shown since the garment was fully lined. Serging is not required at all

@@KnoviceCosplay I had no specific project in mind. I was just in complete awe of the beauty. The pictures of some these garments with this technique is just stunning lol. I felt like I understand in theory but in practice I’m wondering how they actually attached things. Would love to learn the technique because it looks so nice! :) Thank you for making this video. I wouldn’t have ever known about it otherwise!

Yay of course, I'm so glad it was helpful! Firewolf's original Tumblr tutorial of it definitely opened up so many possibilities when I discovered it. I hope that my full Aelita tutorial fills in any of the unclear areas😖
