Sean Costello at The Living Room NYC - December 17, 2003 

The last song of this set is Otis Rush's "Double Trouble" which is the most incredible performance of this song vocally and instrumentally that I have ever seen - and although I later videotaped other shows of Sean this was the only time he performed it.

Almost ethereal playing and singing! What a talent gone to soon.

Thank you so much for sharing these Sean Costello gigs. I've commented a few times before but I cannot stress how grateful I am. I would consider Sean probably the best "modern" blues player (and singer) ever. I never got the opportunity to see him live but this is the next best thing! The Double Trouble at the end is outstanding (I've seen your other upload of this). How he keeps going after a snapping a string and still making it perfect is nothing short of amazing. He really knew the blues.

This cat just “got it”. Wicked dynamics in his playing as well, so furious and then gentle all in one phrase sometimes. I can’t believe I didn’t know about him while he was still with us.

Great performance again by Sean. The other Living Room videos I had already seen but this one was new to me. What a shame I never saw him live.

He exemplifies real blues playing to my taste. The trend has become to make your playing as interesting as possible with use of more theory and modes in blues playing in many circles, but this guy’s playing for my taste is what it’s all about. He doesn’t seem to be worrying about making it cerebral, but simply pouring his heart and soul into what he plays (and sings obviously). Making it about how he plays each not, not about how many, how fast, or which scale the notes come from. The result to me is a much more sincere connection and less contrived. Anyways, I wish I had gotten to see him live. Inspiring to say the least.
