Sean is doing exactly what a coach should do, coaching. The nfl is a business centered around winning, there are going to be hard decisions that need to be made and uncomfortable conversations to be had. The question is how do you handle those conversations or decisions. I think we can all agree Sean Payton didn’t say this with ill intent, he said it on behalf of the betterment of the team because Russ needed to hear it to give them the best chance to win

(I’d bring up playoffs but you know Wilson didn’t make playoffs) 🤣 Should we take a look at Russ last year? At the age of only 34 years old Russ played 15 regular season games and had 3,524 yards with a 60.5% completion %, only 16 TD’s to 6 int’s, a passer rating of 84.4 and an absolutely embarrassing QBR of only 36.7. Being a family man didn’t effect Drew’s production on the field the way Russ’s has. But when a player 7 years older than Russ had a better QBR, better passer rating, better completion %, WAY more TD’s (despite playing fewer games) and threw fewer interceptions it’s somehow about race? You’ve either never watched a football game in your life or you have the IQ of a grapefruit 😂

You know Payton has a comfort level with vilifying black qbs. As for your analysis, way not to compare offensive weapons for both during that timespan. Same could be said about Aaron Rodgers performance last year. Btw Brees also had the luxury of playing in a familiar system. Russ as a QB will be fine, Payton has NEVER made a similar comments about Brees no matter how limited his skills were later in his career (inability to throw beyond 25 yards downfield and zero mobility come to mind). Just seems to be an odd path that Payton has chosen to use to motivate Russ. Brees is a HoF QB no doubt, and Wilson is on his way. Just strange how people turned on him after one bad year in which he had Zero healthy weapons for the majority of his first season and a terrible head coach. Of course, Payton is the same guy who got suspended for paying bounties to players. Double standards seem to be the norm for people like you.

Part of me, after seeing how he's been since coming back to Denver, is glad he didn't return to New Orleans. No it’s not. Coaches shouldn’t be worried about players wanting to manage their image, they should be worried about the work product instead. Payton just doesn’t like him and wants to distance himself early so he can skate off when he successfully sabotages him on the field this season

What changed? If anything it was better. He was married to her in 2016. His stats went tremendously up besides last year. He was literally finally in mvp talks after his marriage. Look at the stats starting after 2016 was way better. 2017-2020 was way better Russ than his 2 Super Bowl seasons and that’s without LOB

We've seen this before. Once players hit that wall, it's a rough fall from grace. The difference with Russ is that it's been so sudden and at an odd stage in his career.

Talking heads are so unimaginative. Someone says something that gains traction and right away they're all saying it. The latent animosity towards Russ was/is amazing. Worst coach ever, worst O-line in the NFL, NO running game, a trio of underachieving whiners catching the ball, and the most season ending injuries in the NFL. Not to mention they were a below .500 team 5 years in a row before Russ even showed up. He went to 10 Pro Bowls in a row! He plays with more heart than Peyton (I don't do contact) Manning ever did.

We looked at Peyton Manning as salvaging his career when he left Indy after injury concerns to go to Denver coincidentally. Why can't it be Russ also. Yes, there's no injury concerns but he just had a bad year mentally and it can be blamed on coaching. I think Russ can salvage his career. I don't think it ends with a SB but they could be respectable again.

Payton is setting Russ up to be the fall man when he is overrated himself. He got suspended an entire season for bounty gate. He coached a defending Super Bowl champion to an embarrassing wildcard round loss to the 7-9 Seahawks. Who’s had a more accomplished career? Wilson or Payton? I’ve never seen a coach go on such a press tour to undermine one of his own players before their working relationship even truly starts. The media is doing so much bidding for Payton it’s nauseating. This doesn’t absolve Wilson from his own shortcomings or justifiable critiques it just seems like Payton is galvanizing a sentiment that it’s either I fixed this guy or not even I could fix this guy. He won one Super Bowl in New Orleans. They should have at least played in another. Russ’ positivity can be toxic and tiresome but Payton speaks as if he is one of the all time greats himself when he is not. What coach can be considered an all time great with one Super Bowl? He has just as many Super Bowl titles as Wilson with one less appearance.
