Let’s be honest. Pereira has already came a LONG way from his first MMA fight. He’s training with Glover as well. He didn’t look the least bit nervous about a takedown vs Strickland. Then slept him with the same shot he slept Izzy with. Beautiful shot.

Both the glove size and fighting stance make a major difference in a stand up fight. Glove size effects both blocking and strikes, from speed, power, even stamina. Fighting stance can change angles, and available power strikes. Orthodox vs Southpaw both must fight for lead foot positions (lead outside foot wins the power game). Hope this lil explanation helps. I personally can't wait to see how this fight plays out.

100% agree! But what's even more infuriating that he didn't even attempt to grapple or try for a take-down early onto to establish those as being very real threats in Alex's mind, the other thing was the way in which he was striking. he had very little head movement and little to no lateral movement, instead he pretty much just walked Alex down staying smack dab right in front of him and was constantly reaching out to play pattycake with Alex's lead hand more than he threw punches. If he was going to stand and bang with Alex, then he needed to take advantage of the his quickness and agility, jumping in landing as many punches as quickly as possible and then jump back outa the way of Alex's counter. He never tried to corral Alex by cutting off angles, instead Alex just kept backing up leading him down the primrose path, all along getting a feel for Sean's speed and lengths all the while setting up that deadly left hook - and wouldn't yah know it - Sean walked right the fuck into it! It wasn't just that he stupidly tried taking on one of the greatest kickboxers of all time, it was how awful he looked doing it. I saw some saying that he was looking good until he got rocked, but i have no clue what the fuck they're talking about. Sean did land a couple of decent punches, and was the aggressor for sure, but he looked slow immobile and never changed the angle of attack instead he just walked straight up down the middle , as if he were just looking to get knocked the fuck out! I mean, it is true that Sean's plan of attack wasn't inherently a bad one, and could/would work against many-many fighters - but not a guy like Alex. And anyone who's watched even just Alex's kickboxing highlights and/or his mma highlights would/should have fuckin known this. What was he fucking thinking?!

Difference in little gloves is many kickboxing and boxing styles exclusively rely on using the gloves to shell and shield from punches. People who try those techniques with little gloves are subject to being cracked when they don't think they can. Similar to a gi in BJJ or even some of the positions in sport BJJ (leg locks, open guard, etc.), you put yourself in a position you don't think you will be hurt in because of all your experience in your niche sport and get hurt. Little gloves favors movement based fighters who use head movement and footwork opposed to shelling and blocking punches.

Sean Strickland had already completed his role before the fight actually. It was he who openly told us the UFC's agenda, as if it were a foregone conclusion. He set the narrative and prophesied his own doom. With the new generation of fighters training at dedicated mixed martial arts gyms the chance to see two former champions of the same discipline fight for a title is almost nonexistent. Even the crossover to MMA super fights will be extremely rare. The only one I can think of is Ngannou vs Fury. Canelo makes too much for the UFC and Rico Verhoeven doesn't want to learn grappling. He's knockout throughout his career has come out of counter striking opponents and when they go technical he's fights have always been boring because he'll never take risk of moving forward and if he's opponents have one punch ko power he even stops counter punching and use leg kicks to maintain distance and win.. Again, he's the champ and it's his choice but if your talking izzy style, it's a glorified/overrated counter striker... That's who he is..

Izzy also started with MMA, he has had MMA fights dating back to 2010. He was training MMA even when he was kickboxing.

This was the first official live ppv I watched and thy Strickland ko live left me speechless….I think izzy had Alex on his mind during his fight, he wanted to make a statement so bad he was in his own head for basically the whole 25 mins

Good to see wrestlers finally acknowledging that striking is the most important aspect of mma.

It's always been a myth, just no real strikers in their prime have ever fought in MMA, why would they there's no money. Thats why mma community over rates their standup.

Wrestling makes the difference. I believe Anderson Silva, in his prime, is a better kickboxer than both Adesanya and Pereira. But at his peak, a wrestler presented his biggest challenge. Had Strickland threatened with wrestling, it would've been a different kind of fight. But Periera got it done 👊🏼

People clearly haven’t watched pereira in his early fights in Brazil he did MMA before his K One title. Dude has a sub or two and trains with texira I think his ground game is prolly pretty slept on.

Sean went in there knowing Peira was a threat but thought he had more time to work and feel the fight out. He also knows how good he is himself and could have definitely played a safer game. He's very talented and knows what us fight fans like!!! Risk vs Reward!!! In the long haul he will be rewarded much more and I believe will be Champ sooner than later. This guy talks better smack than anyone out right now. He needs to keep it up and fine tune now. Oil change every 1500 miles now and the Kid will be one of the best ever!
