Search And Rescue Helicopter Transported Inside Unique Aircraft Carrier | Huge Moves | Spark

A team of engineers race to move a £20 million search and rescue helicopter, almost 3,500 miles, from a Pennsylvania factory in the USA to its coastguard base in the Shetland Islands. The Coastguard has a tight deadline to get the helicopter into service so they can’t afford to wait for delivery by boat. Instead, they call in a team to transport the machine in the world’s largest production aircraft - the mighty Russian Antonov 124.
Two teams of aviation engineers race to prepare the brand new helicopter for its epic flight to make sure its pristine frame will squeeze into the Antonov without a scratch. An American crew removes the helicopter’s rotor blades in the USA while a British team has to re-attach them in Scotland. Both teams must treat the precision-engineered rotor blades with kid gloves and overcome the language barrier between themselves and Antonov’s Russian crew to get the helicopter to the Shetlands safely. Can the chopper cross the Atlantic in record time and begin operational duties before the Coast Guard’s deadline?
-
Super-size missions, risky routes, and the biggest cargo on the planet-imagine hauling a submarine over dry land, transporting a fleet of mega-yachts across the Atlantic, or relocating 20 ancient Egyptian temples...and now meet the heavy hauliers who tackle incredible odds to get the job done.

This helicopter is nicknamed "Oscar Charlie" all of us in Shetland are very grateful to have a such a reliable aircraft with a highly skilled brave crew of men aboard looking out for us. Shetland can be so beautiful and calm but when the wind is blowing a Gael we can sleep easy knowing our islands are being watched over and protected the the H.M.coastguard team at sumbrugh.

30:42 Anyone else notice that? The narrator says the helicopter heads to the hangar to get its main blades on, but the footage shows it going into the hangar with all 4 blades on and the other blade put back on the tail rotor....and the next scene it has no main blades and only 3 tail rotor blades on. Interesting.....🤨

Just a film Continuity errors. Most probably film crew doesn't have the camera shot from above inside the hangar for not assembled helicopter blades. So the producer/mixer just slaps another shot of the fully assembled helicopter reversed into the hangar.

It would not matter one bit if they did not use "dollars". Maybe some like "English credits" or '"American credits" or "French credits". Insufficient range, and no aerial refueling capability. No one has likely engineered a ferry tank system for one of these before, and helicopters have issues with weight and balance around the lateral axis, unlike a fixed wing aircraft.

it's laughable, they say that investing in better aircraft can improve their rescue operations yet the helicopter was transported in an aircraft nearly 40 years old. Furthermore if people were educated more on the dangers at sea and were responsible, there'd be less need for search and rescue helicopters whether old or new.
