I liked this one. In 1980 my Grandmother told my sister and i that the Dslton's were our 4th cousins. My Grandmother was 98 years old at that time. She had some good stories about crossing the country by wagon. Great job. Janie

Amazing story Jeff, and so connected to your relatives nearby. I have family nearby in Hickman, CA that I visited as a boy each summer for a week with my 3 sisters. We had lots of fun on his 350 acre peach farm. My cousin lives there now and grows amonds, no L in the word because they beat the L out of the tree to get them down! Thanks for your research.

That was really fun. I've been up and down and all around the San Joaquin Valley since I was young. It's very cool to know the local history. In the early 2000s, I passed by Ceres many times. This was really interesting. don't much about the Daltons, but who'd have thought that a famous in infamous outlaw from the old west would be buried in Turlock in an unmarked grave. I wonder how many people that live there know that. Or people that visit the cemetary know that. Great episode.

I was born in Meade Kansas in 1936... This is the town that the Dalton's Gang had their hideout. They made an underground tunnel from their barn to the house, where they could hide . My family moved from Meade , Ks in 1943, to Livingston , California. We rented a house (that had originally been a gas station) from Joe Ulrich's parents. It was years later after I had grown up, that the memories of touring the Old Dalton Gang's Hideout and Museum , stirred up my interest in the history of The Dalton Gang. Reading up on different stories I found out that Bob Dalton had married Jayne Blivin from Livingston , California. And that they had lived in this big old two story house of the Ulrich's, right next door where I had lived as a little girl. In fact Bob Dalton was buried in the yard of that home, and in later years his body was moved to the Cemetery in Turlock, California. I agree with Roy G. Dodd.. this video was done with Pure Class...

I had no idea so many Outlaws are/were from the central California valley. Super interesting. I share your constant comments about the apparent lack of appreciation for our historic buildings, sites, etc., That they city, county, state officials turn a blind eye to the historic buildings falling down, sites ignored. There should be a budget for preservation within every government financial plan.

You Jeff and your gorgeous girlfriend Sarah are amazing. The Dalton's were famous out laws of the 1890s especially. In 1964 I met an 85 year old man my dad had hired for ranch work on our place. The gentleman told me all about his knowing the Younger brothers and about Bob Dalton. He tried to join their gangs when he was 15 years old!

Jeff, what a great job you did on this. I have heard stories about the Daltons and Doolins all my life because they operated around my area here in central Oklahoma, but I never knew about this California connection. I am told that some of my ancestors had a run-in with them before statehood near Silver City, Oklahoma. My wife's grandmother was a small child living in Ingalls, Oklahoma when the shootout occurred. She still remembered the event when she was still living.

I live just 16 miles from Pooleville. There are several legends surrounding Bill's tracking and death, including that there were two competing posses after the reward money, and one posse got the other drunk so that they couldn't ride out in pursuit! There is an historical marker in Pooleville (known as "Elk" in those days) privately placed by one of the descendants of the US Deputy Marshall that put a bullet into Bill. Supposedly the alert was raised because Bill's wife was shopping in Ardmore and passed a bank note drawn on the Longview (TX) bank which they had robbed, but it was noticed that the note was not signed by the manager, as bank notes were in those days (each major bank would provide their own notes drawn against cash held - sort of like a debit card of the day). The shop keeper held up putting the purchased goods together and when the questionable bank note was brought to the attention of the local law enforcement, the chase began! Apparently there was also some alcohol being imported an awaiting being picked up at the train station, and in those days IT (Indian Territory) was "dry", so that also raised suspicions (although it also raises the question of how one posse got the other drunk!). Allegedly after the killing and on the way back to Ardmore, the posse paused to pour cold water over the body en route - it being a hot day and nasty things were starting to happen - as Bill's wife happened upon the group and looked in and saw her husband lying dead. Lots of myths, I'm sure, but still told in this neck of the woods!! Thanks for the video! :)

Hi Sarah and Jeff! I find your channel addictive. I like all types of history and I partial to California history. Since the two of you are from Merced why don’t you consider doing a story on the Stevinson Ranch? It’s been in the same family since 1852. I knew Georgette “Ma” Kelley and her husband Bob they rubbed shoulders with The Who’s who from Pebble Beach to San Francisco. They were very down to earth people who were loved by all. In San Francisco they lived at The Summit at 999 Green Street the largest mid century modern project ever built by the Eichler. At their Ranch they had a private polo field and an award winning home. These definitely were early Californians full of history and intrigue.

Yeah Lori I was told the Coffeyville, Kansas gunfight in the Daltons raid on two banks was a lot worst than published and documented hence 7 or 8 local citizens were killed & wounded by friendly fire given why Bob Dalton, Grat Dalton, & Bill Power were buried feet facing West & not East hence Christians believed if you were buried feet facing East your soul was conjured into Heaven by the Good Lord in the second coming of Christ during the Rapture, however, the two Daltons & Bill Power were buried feet face West hence the locals in Coffeyville felt there souls should be delivered to Satan & his Demons for the damage they did.

It's strange to see you make all of the connections as you piece this together, because I was reading up on him while watching the video, I saw that he was born where I live. I had no idea that the Daltons were here at one point.

The movie 'The Last Ride of the Dalton Gang' was filmed in Columbia in 1979. The story it told was pretty incomplete. Your video has added a lot to the narrative. The movie is fun though, not only because I am in it, but for all it shows of Columbia!

Some of my family lived in Coffeyville, KS. at the time of the Dalton Gangs attempted bank robberies in Oct. 1892.

Love the video. You should bring back the narrator....the guy has a great voice and almost as good as the late great Peter Thomas. Best channel on YT easily!!!

Sending him scripts and waiting days for it and hearing him mispronounce words and the cost caused me to move on.

Vary good video. I love this very history lady from Oklahoma. There James, Dalton, Doolin, Younger. All descended from Outlaws live here in Oklahoma. And a few in law enforcement officer.

Well that was well worth my time! I was just in Coffeyville this past weekend, actually two weekends ago. The Dalton's history still a huge part of the sleepy little Kansas town just over the Oklahoma border. I know it takes money but it would be nice to go back with ground penetrating radar and get an image of what it looks like? See if you can see the rectangle disturbance of soil, dirt that has been dislocated. Just saying. A quick follow up, part two? Also, a trip to Tulsa and short drive to Coffeyville to hit the historical spots. I'll buy lunch and drive! You could also hit the historic Browns Mansion in Coffeyville and then off to Bartlesville, home of Frank Phillips, founder of Philips 66 and Woolaroc!! Or, over to Copan! Site of one of the most infamous unsolved murders. The Mullendore murder at the Mullendore Mansion! Books have been written. If you go to the wikipedia page on the subject, it quotes Gary Glanz, a private investigator from Tulsa. I can set you up with him, he is a friend of mine (went to school with his son.) Plenty of history worthy of a trip. If you want more info I can email you some interesting reads that might pique your interest. By the way, part of the movie Tulsa with Susan Heyward was filmed in Tulsa. Plenty of good locales to recreate scenes from the movie. Just random thoughts after watching one of my new favorite channels of RU-vid. Thank you for your work.
