Shipping is THAT WAY. No, It's the other way. Just where is shipping? We eventually find it...several times on this trip from Arkansas to Iowa and then Iowa to South Carolina. We have added lots of new things so don't miss this one!
The shirts at the link below will help cause awareness to SHIPPERS AND RECEIVERS adding signage to where truckers and other customers should go to do business there. Even if they don't, you will have some extra signs with you if you have one of these shirts. HA!

I did the same thing. Park, walk my tiny dachshund, grab a shower, food, return to my trk, then Little Bit and I would chow down. And I would get comfy, get a movie started, eat, then do the last long walk with Little Bit. I was so happy.

It was 1966 and I was 16 hitchhiking to Florida. The truck stop you are going to at the end of the vid was Oemig Truck Plaza witch at the time was the largest stop I north America. They gave me a job in the tire shop for a few months hooked with trucker going to Miami. Brought back old memories. Will have to try and find next video and see it now. Retired in Alberta !

I’ve always teamed with my brother, so the few times I was solo it always felt strange to go into a restaurant and eat alone. And I can’t stand talking to truckers (lol) so I usually ate in my truck too.

Had to laugh at your loading story at the start of your video. I picked up a load of beer can blanks in Golden Colorado bound for Boston with a total weight of 5800 pounds! I had backed into the dock and was waiting to be loaded when one of the employees came out and asked me to sweep out my trailer, my bad. After sweeping it out I casually asked him how long to load. He told me, "It'll be loaded before you get back to your cab!" Sure enough, they pushed the whole load in one movement and filled the trailer top to bottom, front to back and side to side. I was impressed to say the least!

My first real exposure to CB radio was in West Memphis (actually Jennette) in June, 1975. My family stayed at the RV park across from the Skelly Truckstop (now T/A) and listened to the truckers all night. It was great.

there is a place in Kentucky where i use to pick up hazmat. you had to drive through a residential area to get to the plant and you couldn't stop your truck in the residential area, all the plant had was a staging area prior to being loaded, no overnight stops.. only went to that place once, thank god.

Hey there Indiana jack. I’ve been watching your videos a while now. I love the content. I’ve been obsessed with trucks since I was a little kid. I recently bought a 1987 Peterbuilt Cabover as a project. The truck only has 411 k on it. My question is this. Would I have to have a CDL to drive it at all? I’m assuming the answer is yes. I plan to use it for a tow rig to travel to races with my race car. But anyways love your videos brother. Keep on trucking b

in Ohio the truck speed use to be 55 mph, and drivers were saying truckers were getting tickets left and right for going over 55, but i had no problems doing 60 and even the state troopers pass me by. in all my 10 yrs of driving in Ohio, except on the turn pike, i never had any problems. maybe the other drivers were weaving in and out of traffic, endangering someone, but i was governed at 65 so couldn't go any faster, nor was i in a rush. we didn't have these tech toys you guys have today, so when i'd get a load, i'd figure out my hours and how many miles to go per day to reach the receiver on time.

I liked getting out of the truck when I drove. Need fresh air and going on a long walk. Eating was a form of people watching. Love doing that and still do. It's a way to check myself to see if I am normal or just off my rocker. Most of the time i find myself somewhere in the middle. Never was creative enough to set up a way to cook in or just outside my truck. It would be a great way to save money. I love fresh salad and salad bars work for that when on the road. One thing I wish truckstops had was a gym. A nice one too. This way one could get a daily workout in or at least a few times per week. Just walking is fine but weights and cardio machines would do the trick and help truckers get and stay in-shape. Also some truckstops aren't in a great location and safely walking around isn't possible because it's not safe. Iowa 80 was my favorite place to stop. Do they still have the movie theater? Nice waitress's there back then. Got to know many families there too that all worked there back then.

Lots of drivers in Europe have grills or camping stoves, with a little fridge on board. Healthy, self reliant and cheap. Social too, often in summer you'll see a few guys sat round with their camping chairs etc. Especially on Sunday in france, no trucks allowed on the road on a Sunday.
@indianajack
@indianajack 6 лет назад
Things are very different in Europe and in other countries. We seem so be more anti-social here. Same as in Mexico, when you go to a shipper near the border where there are a lot of Mexicans they are out standing around the trucks talking to each other. Everyone else is inside their trucks playing video games and stuff.
@nothanks3462
@nothanks3462 6 лет назад
indianajacktrucker I should probably add its not all pleasant evening cook outs, lots of anti social attitudes as well. The bad economic times, insane fuel prices and cheap labour from Eastern Europe killed off most of the owner drivers here. Not to mention the usual traffic, tolls, crime and waiting etc. Its always the drivers fault! Industry claims to want more drivers but pay and conditions tell a different story. Specialist or saftey critical jobs like fuel tankers pay well but are very hard to get. The union boys keep the sweet jobs for themselves and family/friends etc. Any of that sound familiar?! Plus its all cab over style trucks here. Scania generally considered best. No American trucks at all, except for classics seen at the few truck shows there are. Anyway thanks for the quality videos, interesting to see different states and what it's like doing the job there.

Getting to your location is only part 1. Part 2 is finding the proper receiving/shipping door. A few places were like a Easter egg hunt or needle in a haystack. Then hard to find anyone / no lights in yard thus so dark. Then load not expected. Plus had to check contents to find out if it was right amount. & for the cherry on top of all the stress a hurricane that could go this way or that way ...possibly powerful enough if on the right path to knock your truck/ trailer over OR destroy your house. Ulcer anyone / thank goodness you do not smoke or abuse alcohol. Times like this a driver may want a few brews or go thru multiple packs of smokes. Possible hurricane I better buy 20 packs of cigarettes. Trucking life at it's (best) surprises.

Question about the eating in the truck. It depends on my attitude and mood. I stay to myself avoid being around idiots. Turn on my hotspot watch me some flicks off Amazon Prime. But sometimes I did go inside no the flirt with the waitresses.

I watch Amazon and Netflix but they are running out of good shows and movies. I use to watch DVDs but got tired of watching the same ones over and over.

Anyone stop at exit 52, not far from Matthews, MO? Good food at a place called BJ's. Don't blink or you'll pass it up :)

My trainer never once missed the opportunity to drop $30 for salad/soup and steak something at a top drawer sit down outfit like the green lantern. I played along at cheeseburger and fries level, but on my own I often did beenie weenie, vinny sausages or chili something in the truck along with lots o chips of course. Some places would have egg salad sandwiches to go but most didn't cater along those lines back in mid 90s. Most favorite meal was Wendy's bacon Jr cheeseburger for $1, it was just the perfect smaller size to not bloat up on me, delicious as can possibly be too. Twice a year or so I would break down and do chicken fried steak as a sit down with salad and coffee, but I had to Jones for it about two weeks before I would actually give in and do it. Beautiful 'to go' salads like you are getting and showing us just didn't exist at any price. I'd have been all over those as they look so good, a little bit of everything in there.

My impression was it was a hand to mouth living, nothing saved up and all spent on 'the good life' which was these meals. Wouldn't pass up a bigger state lottery ticket either, played them all. Never really understood the guy, we barely got along for the six weeks of training. He got me shoved to the front of the line ASAP in record time too, so no love lost between us and it certainly was mutual.

That area needs re-building and NEW bridges. My truck falls apart when I go through St Louis.

When I drove (90's) I would eat in the restaurant to get a break of the truck.
