I drilled some small holes in the top and bottom of my S2. This allows a natural convection flow of air. No fan no noise. And the humidity now drops much faster.

I have a later version of the Sunlu S1 and it does have a small circulation fan. I added a desiccant holder inside the lid so the moisture has someplace to go. I'll keep this one in mind for when I decide I need an upgrade or a second drier.

Hello. I've heard about the fan in some new Sunlu dryers, and I have gone into Amazon to check them, but no one mention the fan, so seems like the new model has it, but no one has updated their product description to include it? not even sunlu's website? That's weird. But many have told me about the new fan, so I believe it.

The white supports you used to stregnthen the cardboard filament roll @ 9:40. Where did you find that file?
@NordFPV
@NordFPV 5 месяцев назад
I got it from printables.com. There are a few out there. I like this from polymaker. Use polymaker and cardboard keywords and you should find it.

great video, I just wanted to ask about filament storage. After drying can I store the filament in a dry plastic dry box with silica beads and dehumidifer?
@Mr_Gadge
@Mr_Gadge 7 месяцев назад
I store all filament in small 5L food container boxes from Tesco lol. They stack. I also glued a hygrometer to the front so I can always see if they need drying out. Spool goes in with silica that’s dried at the same time in a cheap food dehydrator. You can also of course buy filament vacuum bags but I find them unreliable and a bit of a hassle.
@NordFPV
@NordFPV 6 месяцев назад
In my case, and with the degree of humidity I have here in Sweden, it has been ok to store in a plastic bag, but I normally need to dry the filament again before using it for best result.

@@Mr_Gadge what % humidy do you need to see to know the filament will be ok to print?

@@timtravelnomad with Petg I like to keep any storage below 20%, or stringing increases.

Hi... What is the power brick for the Fixdry rate? 48 watts or more? By the way, new Sunlu S2 come with a preinstalled fan.
@NordFPV
@NordFPV 6 месяцев назад
The device is 40W, and it doesn’t have a power brick, is a cable directly to the wall. Good the Sunlu has a fan now, but I still see many without the fan everywhere.

Thanks for doing the filament drier research and reviews. Very helpful info. One thought, buying filament on cardboard/wooden spools seems counter productive to keeping filament dry, and also with the drying process because wood/cardboard will absorb more moisture and be more of a process to dry? i like what Bambu is doing by using reusable spools. Not sure if anyone else has this system, but it seems a lot more sustainable. cheers

Thanks for your comment. Maybe I will do a video about the plastic vs cardboard spool and check if the cardboard spool do actually something bad to the plastic in terms of humidity. Thanks for the idea

is it tru that the amazon bazic 1kg spools dont fit ? cos thats what i have the most off and on amazon 1 reviuw claiming that
@NordFPV
@NordFPV 7 месяцев назад
Hi. I don't own one of those spools to test. If you give me the dimension I could check, but I would imagine a 1Kg spool "should" fit. But once again, I don't have one to test and it's a bit tight in there.

9:55 A solution is to make something to transfer filament from 1 spool to another. Like in your case it doesn't matter due to other devices you have. But for others, this likely is a solution.

@@NordFPV you can buy a Filament joiner splicer for $20 give or take. Or make your own. And for the other look up filament respool videos. Some made their own tools and you can finds models out there. Or you can buy a machine for $70.

I just got one and dont like it. Temp and rh are measured at the heater not the chamber. Right now I'm at 64c on the unit but the chamber is only 25.5c the rh is showing 8 on the unit but is 36.3%. This is super wet PETG but the chambers rh started at 47% and after 2 hours it's 36% so it's working I just don't like how inaccurate the measurements are and how weak the fan is. The graph is showing a weird temperature ramp up pattern and it's very slow. I'll run a test print but I think this might go back to Amazon. Seems like it's working but not really liking it more then some other unit's.

@@NordFPV I thought of a great idea of repurposing these things as a budget controllable heater for printer enclosures since they have all the controls and decent heating elements to achieve it. I want to know if the fan is strong enough to at least push some air current around.

@@mynt4033 oh, that's a cool project, you should do a video about it. Yes, definitely, it will have enough power to push air around in a small to medium chamber.

You could buy a cheap toaster and strip that down. You'll get two heating pads on a single toaster (x4 on a double) If you run it from a 12 volt source it'll produce the lower temps you need than on the mains electric...

Honestly, why not tape your own table on the dryer? Makers tweak everything, but we are suddenly supposed to live by the dryer manufacturer's suggestions? And does putting desiccant inside of the dryer really a good idea? After all, how do you regenerate the desiccant? Yes, by heating it up. SMH None of these dryers are close to optimal. You need to circulate the air. Preferably remove, cool, dry, reheat, and return to the dryer.
