Newcastle, England is a northern party city that's rife with hen (a.k.a. bachelorette) parties, plus it's a great place to grab a late night snack called parma, which is basically a pizza made with chicken instead of crust. But besides the debauchery and greasy post-bar snacks, Newcastle is an excellent city to drink a few pints of real, cask ale. So, we sent two of our Al-Kee-Hol correspondents, Adam and Patrick, out for a marathon of real ales that took them to some old, incredible English pubs. Watch and enjoy.

I enjoyed being a part of this feature and I'd like to think it shows the crown posada and the city in a good light. I'd be happy to present a proper ale show Vice, and show you just want amazing brewery's and pubs Newcastle has to offer. The presenters didn't really ask any questions either, I just did my thing to be a good host.

@@michaelhawkins7389 I worked at the Crown Posada in Newcastle for 10 years. It’s been closed due to Covid-19 and I was recently been made redundant. I got employed the very next day by a National pub of the year, The Battlesteads at Wark so it’s all worked out.

Actually hearing the guys who worked in the pubs speak about beer was by far the best thing of this episode - that bar manager specifically. All the hosts have said are "oh this is nice" or "mine's really warm/really cold"... they don't seem to know jack about beer! Really boring when they were speaking, although they do seem like alright guys.

Just to confirm to anyone watching, British cask ale is NOT warm it is cellar temperature. I think North American’s may be due to drinking in hotter weather call it that as it not freezing cold! I am so glad they gave the guy in the Crown Posada the opportunity to explain it in a clear and understandable way.

I think the hosts where good! You don't always need hosts who are professionals at what they are presenting! The segment gives us an insight in to what People foreign to the uk are like trying out British real ale and experience British pub culture

Co2 is present in these beers.. Priming sugar is added to the cask to provide pressure for the pump.

In England we chill different types of beer to different temperatures most Real Ales are served at room temperature where as Pale Ales are lightly chilled.

Fucking love this. Love the little cheeky shot of the bottle of Budweiser just hanging there when at the beginning you more or less slated commercial beers (good on you by the way, fuck the commercial). Definitely made me chuckle!

A good pint is when you don’t get ripped off with short measures or full of air, so when it settles there’s a couple of inches short in the glass at the top at the widest point, nice little earners for some pubs. I find a pint in good order always leaves a ring level mark down the glass with every sip.

One of the best experiences you can have, travelling, visiting the small local pubs, drinking real beer, and all these idiots can talk about is the typical bar banter. No real questions about the beer, the history, the people. All small talk, and they don't even try to get to know the locals.

As if they got paid to make this. Vice could be brilliant if it had some actual quality control. I learnt nothing from watching this, except that a couple of canadians can genuinely earn money by going on holiday, getting LOL SO DRUNK off a few pints, and making a 'documentary' where the most exciting thing in it was a barman opening a cask with a huge hammer.

Cold beer vs. warm beer. This is awesome but never covered. Dark beers are classically warmer due to their body but color doesn't always show body. Beers like lagers, kolsch, pilsners, ales, porters, stouts in that order colder to warmer in their traditional state.

+maaarshaaa It's not meant to be served warm, the guy who went down to where the beer kept even explained: They beer is served at 10-12 degrees to keep it just cold enough to be refreshing, but not cold enough to lose the flavour.
