I was able to get some time with Pete at Cornerstone music to test and critique the Silvertone 1484. Not only do my restorations generally get critiques here, but it was from this very place that I picked up the amp when it was first dropped off.

FYI - the reverb isn't supposed to work that way, amp needs some more warm up and wattage going through it and reverb will most likely work OK. Sounds and operates just like any other reverb, in fact MORE extreme when cranked up. I have a Twin Twelve recently pulled out of storage and does the same thing on reverb, but seems to clear up fine after some use. A cool old amp for sure

I'll be reaching out to you via email about a possible restoration of my 1484. Great video!

Thanks you, though currently I’m not taking on any new restoration work.

You have made me want to completely restore my 1484. Mine is not in near the terrible shape that one was in, but it could use some refurbishing.

I've already went through it electronically. It's just the cosmetics that could use a little work. It was in surprisingly good shape when I got almost two years ago.

Im confident a good portion of the resistors will be replaced in the first 20 hours of operation testing.

@@retrotechandelectronics hey man i love your channel. Your basically the first tech that suggests checking every resistor to eliminate phanton noise. Keep em coming .

@@russellesimonetta3835 I wouldn't say every resistor. As I broke down the stages I would trace back the noise to these resistors, just turns out many were noisy.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you use to clean the faceplate of the amplifier, as well as the tolex? I just bought one and it's not nearly as rough as this one was, but could still use a good cleaning! Thanks for your time -- really enjoyed the videos.
@retrotechandelectronics

For cleaning, not sanding, I mixed maas with windex. The tolex was mild degreaser.

I still have an OT from one of these that apparently disintegrated many years back (in my parts drawer next to the Dano PU), and I have to wonder...who thought that up? It bears no resemblance to anything I've ever seen on any other amp, and when they work, they have an amazing tone...

Why did you say “Don’t blow him up”? Does it hurt the amp?

Those are great sounding amps but unreliable for hard gigging! Big sound home or rehearsal/studio amp. I,m interested in the mojotone clone that uses turret board instead of components point to point.

If you're demonstrating an amp, before showing off your guitar skills, I would like the demonstrator to play some clean single whole notes on all the strings. I want to hear the amp.

Was that not done in the previous video?
