Apologies for the delay in releasing since my last vlog, but this one is a little different from me. We spent a fantastic, but very hot, week in North Devon on holiday so I thought I would try some seascape work. Did I succeed?

Well, all those exposures worked brilliantly for the last seascape. I always find that's the way to go for the best results in that sort of light. Also I thought the composition was much better than you made out! 😊👍

Thanks Dave. At the time I felt I was resorting to a rushed comp, but in hindsight it was better that I expected. Just shows really….perhaps I should do workshops 😉😊

The curving beach image is great love it and the tree avenue at the end, worth the cost of hotel and petrol to North Deven in itself.

You need a hat buddy, that bonce is gonna get sunburnt !! 😉 Immediately recognised those clifftops on your opening sequence, cracking area that is with some amazing rocks leading out into the sea. First time I ever ventured by St Catherine's Tor the waterfall that drops onto the bay was actually frozen ! The strata (or is it as you said dilations?) is so photogenic down that way, I am surprised we don't see more images from there just showing that layered effect... I am hopeless at the inner landscape style but it looks just right for it. Really liked that 2nd image, had the feel of a scene out of Yosemite or somewhere like the Rocky mountain front in minature. Looks like you had a great week weatherwise mate but as you say a little hot for hiking etc. I don't do IG these days but had a look at Adam's work - I see he's been down my next of the woods of late - his work looks familiar to me... cracking stuff. As it happens, I went out and bought one the day after for that very reason! I was fascinating by the geology of the place Al, those layers caused by plate movement I assume, are amazing. Adam produces some lovely work from this area - I'm pleased you checked him out

Hi Jamie as landscape photographer's we're never happy with the weather (or so my wife keeps telling me 😁) "too sunny / cloudy / foggy / wet / hot etc." I love the sunset image near the end and knew you couldn't resist posting a tree image. Thanks for this video which I enjoyed not only for the landscape photography but also as a climber. It reminded me of a climbing trip in 1977 when we went to Lundy. We had to wait a few days to get there and in the meantime we climbed on this coast, some of the places featured in your video. Looks like you had a great trip to the South West, I remember it with great fondness.

Lovely sunset Jamie, that looks great, don’t be too hard on yourself at least you got a good photo. That’s one better than me a few days ago. But I did get a few of Blackchurch rock. The rock is soooo much bigger than I thought it would be. And just as you said, a great area to be. Just a shame it is 6 hours from Lincolnshire to get there.
@JamieOverland
@JamieOverland 3 года назад
We dropped in at Blackchurch but it was high tide and I think you need the foreground rocks to do that justice. You’re right though it’s very big! Took us 9 hours to get home!!!
@peternickols2687
@peternickols2687 3 года назад
@@JamieOverland wow that’s a long journey. Blackchurch rock was the only real photo session I had. So I timed it to get there at low tide and caught a heavy shower. Got soaked but it made the rock and foreground sparkle in the sunlight strait after.

Great to see you on the North Devon coast mate. You didn't have the best conditions for photography did you? Hartland isn't an easy place to shoot...I know from bitter experience! Maybe you'll visit the south Devon coast next....a bit more forgiving I'd say....but I'm biased. :-)

Lovely shots, beautiful location. Nice to shoot something different, it keeps the old brain box turning over. Far too hot for hiking, I've stuck to low level and not far from the car and bottles of water. Stratigraphy, strata, sedimentary layers - a geologist would use any ......... but don't get confused by bedding and cleavage 😉
@JamieOverland
@JamieOverland 3 года назад
Yep, really enjoyed the change of scenery Iain. I really should pay attention to the contour lines on the OS maps though. My excuse is I don’t normally have to worry about them!
@iainmc9859
@iainmc9859 3 года назад
@@JamieOverland There ain't no contour lines on your part of the map. I lived in the only part of Norfolk with a bleedin' hill, which I had to cycle over first thing every morning. I went back to where I first moved to Scotland a month ago and couldn't believe the hills I used to cycle over to work. The bike now collects dust and spiders nest in the cycle helmet. I never wore lycra though .... well, not for the cycling 😉

Ere what you doing in my part of the world my boy. Seriously Jamie, the North Devon coast is very different to the South where I live. I am off to Exmoor soon & will visit Hartland. Of course! Twice and both times they were delicious! Funny, I was thinking while I was there I was on your patch and I was sure to get a comment from you! It's a beautiful area, however mapping out the coast path walk from Hartland to Clovelly looks easy enough on a map....but of course I didn't take into account the hills and valleys!!

@@JamieOverland Oh yes Devon is hilly & narrow roads. Try ordering some Clotted cream from Rhoda's by post & have it on your Christmas pudding or under the lid of a warm mince pie at Christmas. Hansum my boy. Did you drive into Exmoor at all. That again is very different from Dartmoor here in the South. Exmoor does not have the granite Tors.
