Got all his albums more or less and saw him for the first time on Jools Holland doin Dog House Blues and instantly heard something you very rarely hear now real music. Seasick stay of the boats and keep on keeping on. I just hope when the Stones do the final tour he supports.
love this dude! been following him for a couple of years. Some say he isn't really a guitarist and doesn't know what he's doing.... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .... yeah and he's unique as hell, looks like he actually loves what he's doing, AND.... he's fun to watch and listen to.... AND.... he's not dressed like a goth vampire, or metallica wanna be. LOVE THIS OLD DUDE!!!!!!
@Frepp73 Well actually the song is only called that because that's what the "guitar" he's playing is called. The instrument itself is of course a nod to Bo Diddley, but that's where the song gets its name.
actually fredrick a diddly bow is a traditional delta blues homemade instrument, often just made directly on a fence or porch post and Bow Diddly took his name from that =]
I think Jools Holland might be Steve's biggest fan lol. BUt then again who can blame him. he's probably the most honest and original person ever to be on his show?
@gilkesisking if you think this idea of "1 string" is new talent that is wrong. China has invented this music instrument long before this old dude was ever born. Its called Huqin (胡琴) or Pipa and has several variations.
@alro20 You don't tune a diddly bo per se. It *has* to be played with a slide because what the person does is he slides the slider up to the point where the note *just sounds right* and holds it there for the duration of that note, then picks it up and puts it down for the next note and then slides it to the point where *that* note sounds right, and so on. It's like playing a trombone. You don't have exact detents where the notes are, you slide until it sounds right and stop there.
@toddallenhooper I just discovered him by accident too while on vacation in the UK. Guess he's not Kanye Christ..I mean West, or Lady GaGa, or and other auto-tuned non-artitist.
this guy makes more music with junk than most can with 1000's of $ worth of high techy state of the art equipment. also see: "it might get loud" with jack white
While I agree that he isn't mainstream pop shit, you don't need to be in the top 5 or top 40 or top 100 to be making generic pop music, you just need to be willing to lower yourself to it, which seasick steve hasn't thankfully.
