Which is silly because Dragons cannot bond with 2 people at one time. And leanor is NOT dead. So this is a plot hole that needs adressed now. Obfiously the first and most logical reasoning is that they are of the same blood but still... needs to be stated. Yucky plot holes 😅 unless they already did adress it when they said valyrian history is twisted to favor targaryans and im just being overly stubborn 😅 but still...
@@alexdrysdale2678 laenor is dead (most likely) as shown in the previous episode when Seasmoke was acting uneasy at dragonstone. Mysaria even said that maybe he (Seasmoke) is sad indicating that he felt his rider's death.
It was the body language, I can’t quite explain it but he kinda telegraphed relief as a lack of respect, and he got roasted for it. You don’t really “tame” these things, you get them to agree to be your partner. They’re not service beasts of burden. The animators do a really excellent job of conveying how intelligent they are even with limited facial expressions.
@@heatherr4321That's why Rhaegar and Viserion didn't attack Tyrion when they got chained in Meereen because Tyrion was calm and composed even though he was scared to them and he talked to both of them, telling stories to make sure he's friendly.
Sea smoke deemed him unworthy , after giving him an honest chance. He showed cawardice , hesitation, then came to the idea "he had won a dragon" . This is to show us tjey are not just mindless wild animals. Books do way better lol
@@alexdrysdale2678 Of course books do almost everything better, they can describe something in so many words and pages. no need to even say it. Yet we are discussing the show here. Anyway OP was just joking, it's clear why Seasmoke killed him.
@@hez859 And had a much-preferred new rider already selected from previous beach flybys. The new rider didn't even know he qualified for the position, let alone that Seasmoke was scouting him for it, but these were insignificant details! :P
that as well. But i think part of it was seasmoke being intelligent enough to know there is a major conflict going on and he'd have to submit. but that statement of 'i've done it' pushed its already strained pride too far and just like 'fuck you'.
@@niraxlevi9930 the dragon was going along with him until he professed that he had essentially tamed it. Once that happened Seasmoke switched up. Safe to say that was the reason this happened
Nah @nirax is right - and you have the refutation to your theory litterarily in the same episode dude; where Seasmoke looks for a suitable candidate to claim him - and finds Addam of Hull who shows fear and had no diect bond with him - only by him simply being related to Laenor; i wouldn’t call that a bond
i think the best part of the scene was the dragon handlers. Acting was really well done. The knifes they wield makes the viewer wonder what the plan to do with a dagger vs a dragon. then you see the dagger is to kill themselves so they dont suffer as long if being dragon immolated
- seasmoke: maybe i will give him chance - steffon: skeaking crouching slowly step by step showing unconfidence and fear - seasmoke: nah he dont deserve my back
@@jond.4519 He ran for his ilfe yes but not i na blind panic. He made deliberate choices even in the midst of his fear. A fool blind in panic would have just ran in some random direction. A man quick on his feat would be able to analyze the right place to go, in this case, he realized the dragon couldn't properly pursue him through the trees. Vs the kingsguard, who was shaking in barely controlled fear the entire time, his demanor that of a fear blinded rabbit about to bolt at the slighest provocation, vs adam, who kept contorl of his fear enough to make proper decisions, more like a deer bolting. to adragon ALL is prey ni the end, but a deer is a much worthier prey than a meager rabbit.
"I've got a guy lined up who I'm really excited about! I'm just headed off to tell him now! He doesn't know he's my new rider yet but I'm sure he'll be as excited as I am when he finds out!" later: "No wait! Why are you running! OH! ARE WE PLAYING CHASES?! WE'RE PLAYING CHASES! @@thomasjoychild4962 THAT is the cutest think I can imagine he really thought. Just the way he suddenly came up, slythering over the ground like 'I GOT YOU'. even his sounds while he chased him seemed quite happy and amsused
I know this is truthful to the books but he was such a good queensguard.. he was the one who helped rhaenyra dressed as a septa when she went to KL. Such a damn shame he had to go out this way.
@@mooooooooooomooooooooooomo6829Pretty healthy to be afraid in that situation. He went at taming the dragon with the warrior mentality of 'aight, i'mmah have to control this beast and show it whos boss' Sadly that kind of thing doesn't impress dragons
Young Aemond with courage was able to tame Vhagar yet adult Steffon with fear and trembling couldn't tame Seasmoke after all. Lesson of the day: Be bold and shake off all fear when facing fearful situations.
“Shake off all fear” that’s easy to say when you’re not the one staring into the eyes of a fire-breathing dragon. His Targaryen blood wasn’t strong enough to be a dragon-rider, plain & simple
If How To Train Your Dragon has taught me one thing, it'd be this: Don't go for the neck. Go for the eyes. Below it is the teeth. Bond and Trust is the essence between a dragon and its rider. Not Claim and Tame.
He made a mistake by being arrogant and on guard. When you claim a dragon dont show him that you are on guard by touching your sword and being arrogant just after. Its with bond, mutual respect and trust.
I think it was more when he showed calm after thinking he had claimed the dragon, dragons in this show are not just animals, they demand respect from their partners, and this guy only showed fear from the beast, and then felt he had won it, no respect to the dragon itself, Seasmoke felt has if it had been just a prize/object @@WSB1469
It almost worked. If Steffon hadn't wasted time and just gone on Seasmokes back it would've worked. But Seasmoke, also, probably already had Addam in mind.
Seasmoke took one look at that guy, remembered his last rider as well as Laenors Mother/Sisters/Wife (and Daemon if he ever met him) and then politely thanked everyone for getting him Take-out in his time of grief.
Well, the part that he has blood of the dragon was true it seems, the dragon acknowledged him, when he saw it, same expressions as Drogon with Jon, but Seasmoke was already interested in Addam Of Hull
NO, the dragon didn't like Steffon's fear and arrogance (''I did it''). Steffon didn't try to bond, he tried to dominate without being actually ''fearless'' or enough. So hubris killed him.
@@SorceressWitch The dragon bonding is random, but every single dragon who sees a Targaryen/Velaryon/Baratheon is fond of the person with Valyrian blood, will tolerate their presence, as Vermithor tolerates Daemon and Rhaenyra, Drogon tolerates Jon. When you are not a Valyrian the dragon will roast you as soon as he sees you
I saw this shit coming a mile away. His timid Valyrian and Seasmoke being agitated to begin with. Then his long ass walk up, like man hurry up.. whatevs, seasmoke figured I’ll go get my own rider.
This takes me back to when Aemond was claiming Vhagar. Dude was closed to being a luncheon meat but Vhagar sensed his courage and was liek 'aight let's go night flying and see if you go back to KL alive'. Fast forward and both are now key players in the dance🐉
Remember when after the Green's Coup, Daemon threatened Ser Steffon (and Ser Lorent) that if he betrayed Rhaenyra, he "will die screaming" in dragon fire instead of a "clean and honourable death". Welp, I guess many paths lead to the same destination
Him being scared annoyed Seasmoke but he was like "I'll give it a shot, let's discuss terms of the partnership" and dude was like "oh sweet you're my dog now" I think even among Targs and their off-branches, a deciding factor is being raised with respect for the dragon as a sentient being, not just a very large & dangerous beast.
I agree, to me the vibe Darklyn gave off was that of a brusque kennel master, everything seemed salvageable until the done it comment enraged the dragon, and the way he said it felt that he was handling hounds or horses, which was probably his life experience anyway as an aristocrat.
I think it was a mix of fear and what elenee1471 said. They told him to show no fear but it was all over him, and then he didnt treat it like forming a bond but rather like taming him.
He took it for granted that he’d done it. That was exactly the reason Seasmoke seems to have objected - you don’t impose your will on a dragon, at best you get them to agree to be your partner.
Tragic. Seasmoke was pretty calm and docile at first, but then he lost his patience and went "fuck nah". I'd hate to be Ser Steffon, it sucks to go like that.
It was like Se Smoke can sense his Targaryen blood but it is thin, When Steffon said “I’ve done it”, Seasmoke stopped giving him the chance and reject him as he is not fully a dragonlord
@@lukadzidic8211 his point doesnt stand at all, he was trying to say they should've had more lethal weapons instead of sticks. They aren't supposed to cause the dragons any harm....
if only he was confident enough and stop questioning if he's really done it or not and directly climb up the moment that fire breathing reptile offered him his back, I think ser Steffon is still alive now 😢😢
Well, according to the Wiki (of the books) Dreamfyre is Seasmokes mother. And it is very likely that she is the mother of Drogon, Rheagal and Viserion as well. So that would make them siblings.
the 3 eggs that danny had were of Seasmoke. Drogon, Viseryion and Rhagael are technically Seasmoke children. Thanks showmakers made Seasmoke of similar features to three of them. Edit: eggs are of Dreamfyre and not Seasmoke
@@connormcmurphy4276 Yeah but he only roasted ONE keeper as collateral damage :P He's smart enough to take a little bit of care with the people who feed him.
You've done it!!! YOU'VE DONE IT!!!! Is what i imagine seasmoke saying 😭, he probably sensed fear and the lack of confidence then he said this shit ain't for me 😂
Why did you cut the burning expert cut his own throat, it was chilling and such a great way to see those dragon tenders are prepared to die for their craft.
That only applies to daenerys tho ,she's the prince that was promised, she's a special case ,she literally brought back dragons and magic with them too ( magic gets stronger with the presence of dragons in the world )
Man, I usually don't tense up from anticipation while watching movies/TV shows, but the build up to this scene really got me. I knew how he died from the book and wasn't looking forward to it. There's not much said about him in the lore but the series made him quite a likable, sympathetic side character. I'm glad his death wasn't worse than it was. I was expecting Oberyn death levels of brutality..
he did descend from House Targaryen, that was made clear when Rhaenyra outright stated his greatgrandmother was a Targ. its just unknown how recent the Targ ancestry needs to be for you to be able to claim a dragon... considering Addam claims one and we dunno how far back you need to trace Corlys ancestry till theres a targ its up for debate.
@@JuanRodriguez-im6ulit has to be a targ. Only 40 families were bonding with blood magic and Targaryens are the last one. Velaryons were like a middle income noble house back then who couldn't bond with dragons.
When I first saw this episode, I was expecting Vermithor to come out. Seasmoke chasing Addam down was cute and funny. He’s one of my favorite dragons now.
