Criston Cole is so mf lucky he's got dornish blood in him. That generational PTSD the ancient valyrians gave his ancestors singlehandedly caused that one thought, "I should look above" before they start booking it.
The difference in Cole being a serious focused knight who’s come from modest beginnings vs a rich boarding school snarky clown essentially (but I love the latter way more)
Just went back and watched the tourney from season 1 and when qwyane faces daemon I made no connection. Dude looked menacing and then you see him without the helmet and it’s like oh but yeah great actor probably wasn’t cast yet
@@ChrisFilippJohnson Big difference between a joust in a tournament and actual battle experience. Cole got his knighthood because of his bravery fighting in the border skirmishes between the Stormlanders and Dorne. Like him or hate him he's one of few characters with real battle experience before the Dance.
@@erikthomsen4768 In this time period? Highly doubt it Lord Dondarrion would EVER accept someone with a Dornish mother into his household. In this period the Dornish Marches and Dorne hated each other. Besides, calling Criston half-Dornish would still remain nothing but a headcanon and speculation, since we have 0 information about Criston's mother. And no, HOTD isn't a reliable source to describe characters, especially given how much that fool Condal changed.
@@gooby214 The Rhoynar arrived over a thousand years ago and their descendants can still be found across the region. Is it so difficult to imagine that even a single ancestor would have Dornish blood?
i mean, he is supposedly one of the very few knights in the red keep that actually saw real combat, that´s why he seems so more serious regarding war affair against every other dummy
1:20 I enjoyed the suspense in this scene. Ser Criston and Gwayne only had minutes to ride hard and fast before they faced Baela on Moondancer. The chase itself was acted incredibly well, with great fear and tension!
If the dragonrider was Chinese, she'd have burned the forest. It's a favorite tactic of anicent Chinese generals when dealing with enemies who hide behind trees.
In the books, the woods on the Rosby Road are a royal forest planted by Maegor the Cruel used for the construction of ships. It's all old oak. Burning those would damage the legitimacy of Rhaenrya's cause even more.
Young dragons don't have as strong of a fire breath or as much stamina. She would tire out before being able to burn a substantial part of the forest down.
I personally think that the actor who portrays as Gwayne Hightower could've been a PERFECT young adult Aegon, Tom's killing it don't get me wrong but I just can't help but imagine 💯
@@johnforealdoe8999 Okaaaaay? I suppose this is one of those opinions, that we, hopefully, have to keep it to ourselves... No harm done my good friend, I understand you and I heard you, have a great day ✨️
Sorry, but as a poor person, I don't get why everybody's dunking on Gwayne for being exactly what a lordling would be. Of course he likes to be comfortable when he can. If he understood the risk of doing going out, he would not have tried it. As he says later on, he's afraid because he's rational. That's fair. Gwayne is not wanton like Aegon, haughty like Aemond, distant like Otto, or cruel like Larys. He's just some rich dude.
I think cavalry forces should have dispersed while running towards the forest in order to reduce the chances of a dragon destroying the whole group in a single attack
They beelined it for the nearest cover, yeah once under cover they could've spread out in case the dragon started burning the forest. But what they did wasn't wrong, especially since they only had a few seconds to make a decision
Maybe nitpicking because the dragon animation itself was so good in this scene (the dive, the stop-on-a-dime pull-up) but I feel like they still need to work on making it look more realistic in terms of the g force the riders would be experiencing riding an open cockpit on a fighter jet. When they show Baela's face close up, there's just not enough wind in her hair and eyes. Maybe I'm tripping but it kinda momentarily takes me out of what's otherwise a badass scene.
She's supposed to be scouting, not attacking. Besides, she doesn't know who the knights with Cole are. For all she knew, they could've been from houses that could be swayed to the Blacks, not Hightower household knights.
Galloping horses full speed into thick woods is a really effective way to break all your horses’ legs. Just like the opening scene of Gladiator, very silly. Turns out, there’s a reason cavalry always like big open fields.
"Umm Ackchyually". Go wash all those cheetos off your fingers. It turns out, getting chased by a DRAGON that can literally burn you into a crisp can make people forget logic and reason.
@@kaushif12 No need to get personal on a two week old throwaway post, buddy! And you are right, they did what anyone would do. But none of their horses broke any legs, just like in every other movie or show. Very silly. Have a nice day!
Such a farfetched scene all those important people in some random field and baela is able to see them and identify them this is s8 of GoT levels of unreal
I don't know why she didn't just burn the whole perimeter of the stand of trees... it would have either forced them to come out or trapped them inside.
She was told to scout so she’s already done to much and then you want her to burn the forest down, is her name the mad king. Shows what kinda person you are. 😂
Good job general, you started an uncontrollable fire that rapidly spreads throughout the region for thousands of miles just to kill 3 men (with no dragons) what’s your next strategic move? Hearts and minds? Nope you indirectly killed many civilians and destroyed a lot of crops and vegetation. Never enlist bro
@@Nickname-ef9tv and? Are you such a life long city dweller you dont know small fires become big fires, especilally when provided with lots of timber, like say, in a huge forest.
I don't know what else they could use. But isn't it dumb to wear something that reflects light? I don't think Baela would have noticed them if light didn't shine of their armour
Good thing at least baela listened to her mother WHEN SHE WAS TOLD TO SCOUT, NOT ATTACK. Are you too busy stuffing your face while watching so you cant hear the dialouge?
0:34 If I may comment on writing and the choice of vocabulary, Gwayne's "rendezvous" is out of place and anachronistic in such setting. It's so jarring to see such foreign and futuristic vocabulary in a medieval fantasy setting.
@@TimberlakeTigerGirlYes,she could also create an encirclememt to trap them .Historically, forests have been burned down to root out guerilla or trap them. The massive usage of Napalm in Vietnam war,an example
She could have gotten them, or at least some of them. She just needed to encircle the last known area they were in with fire then work in from there. The horse would have likely freaked a little at fire raining down around possible throwing the rider or bolting possibly into the open netting her kills.
Genius. Let's destroy Targaryen-controlled forests that they use for construction and ship building. That won't cripple their House for generations or anything.
@@stephenjenkins7971 1, No way that forest is too green to all go up if you burnt a small area around them. 2, The Greens control those forests, so some damage now to take out the hand of the king and general (Cole) and his officers to the current main green army while that said army is out in the field would be worth it. A blow like that to the greens would be huge.
@@stwartic4296 So? You think Rhaenyra would have been upset if she managed to kill Cole and Gwayne Hightower, current leaders of the Greens Army out in the field.
@@Zinix999 1) A forest is naturally made up of a lot of kindling on the forest floor. Dead leaves, branches, and the like. That stuff spreads fast and hard. 2) The Greens also control half of Westeros, do you advocate for destroying half of Westeros as well? Why are Blackcels so dang bloodthirsty? Do you people have no concept of short-term gain and long-term devastation?
I don't get why she didn't hit the trees anyway 🤷. It's not like dragons suffer from limited ammo. They were heading straight in, they'd still be going straight under the tree canopy. It's not like horses can race flat out and turn on a dime.
Baela wasn't thinking like Aemond, if she caught them, then what? I believe that she didn't use fire because it's not their territory and they're trying to gain more allies. You can't go around damaging people's property, possibly starting a forest fire that might kill innocents and expect them to join your side.
Thanks for the explanations but I believe she was close enough to see that is Creston and Alicent's brother. All she had to do was throw a firebolt. War was already declared when her brother was killed by Aemon. That was a point blank shot right there literally. I say it's the plot armor.
If this dummy would’ve had her dragon shoot flames at the entrance as soon as they got in she would’ve killed the hand 💀 she acts like trees are fire proof
@@spencr_xo house Valerion look exactly like house Targaryen. There the same people. So casting them as black doesn’t make sense. The black people are the people of the summer isles in the main story. They have a completely different story.
