Remember, in the episode where we first meet Chuck, Lilith tries to make a deal with Sam because she says she knows she doesn't make it out of this alive. "Dead, just before the good part starts."
The reveal that Dean was right almost the whole time 😭 like obviously the way they wrote it was for u to be indecisive but I remember people rooting for Sam and then the finale happened lol. Love everything about this episode especially the way it was shot😭
I know 😭 Like it makes sense and I know Ruby is a demon but it felt like there could have been more to her. I was really hoping that Sam would at least be partially right at the end and it’s heartbreaking that it was way worse than that. It’s a great episode 🥹
End of the season fun facts: The writers of this episode have done their due diligence, they deserve all the praise here there actually was a St. Mary's College run by the Redemptorists in a small declining, now extinct town of Ilchester, MD. The college closed in 1972, the date used in this episode for the nuns being slaughtered. The abandoned building, which eventually went to ruins became a teenage urban myth nicknamed "Hell House." The ruins were demolished in the 2000s. Several websites provide more information. Upon seeing Castiel and Zachariah in the same room, Dean remarks: "Well look at this - The Suite Life of Zach and Cass." This is an allusion to the Disney Channel show The Suite Life of Zack and Cody about troublesome twin boys who live in a hotel. On the grand table in the Green Room, there's a large silver punch bowl full of Dean's favorite bottled beer and a platter of bacon cheese burgers, which Zachariah encourages Dean to enjoy. The scene is a symbolism of Good and Evil and the Forbidden Fruit from which Eve took the bite that sparked the Fall of Man. After initially refusing the goods, Dean eventually relents and picks up a burger. Castiel suddenly reappears and grabs him before he takes a bite. Dean tells Castiel that he'd rather take the pain and guilt than live as some "Stepford Bitch in Paradise". This is a reference to the term "Stepford Wife" - which originated from the 1972 book The Stepford Wives the plot of which involved men replacing their wives with subservient robot-lookalikes. Today, the term "Stepford Wife" is used to describe a person who is easily submissive. Eric Kripke has refused to say whether it was Zachariah or Ruby who tampered with Dean's message to Sam so we are all still waiting on that one.
Even though it's officially still a mystery, my guess on the altered message is that Zach did it. We've seen the angels (or at least Zach in this episode) alter that "safe haven" area, removing the doors for example, and it's not unreasonable to think he or others could have altered the message as well, while we've seen nothing of the sorts from the demons in this or the previous seasons (or at least I don't remember any).
I always thought ruby tampered with the voice mail because the camera pans to her after he listens to it and she has a smirk on her face. So from that I always felt she did it. But it makes sense if Zach did it too.
One of the things I find so interesting is that Ruby is genuinely fond of Sam and seems so certain they are going to be rewarded and thrive. She knows Sam has a lot of rage and self righteousness and arrogance that drove a lot of his actions this season and likes those qualities in him every bit as much as Sam is ashamed of them. Ruby seems to adore him as much as a demon truly can. And that's why Sam believed her so much. Because she WAS proud of him and WAS fond of him and did want good things for him. Just different things than Sam wanted.
The angels don't care about humans at all. They're just insects to them. They want Lucifer free so that they can fight and defeat him and fulfill their purpose, with Dean at the forefront of the battle. Castiel is the very rare minority of angel that actual values humans. For the angels 'paradise on earth' is all the demons, and most of the humans, being completely wiped out.
I think that the fact that she seems to genuinely like Sam is what is partially throwing me off thinking she would be different even though she is a demon. I don’t know if I view Sam as arrogant, almost more naive in thinking that this would be the solution. Angels are scary in that sense, it truly does seem like they don’t care and that they don’t care about what god wanted at all🥲
Every time I see this episode, I feel like we got cheated out of seeing Bobby's reaction when Dean disappeared to the Angel's waiting room.. even just a two second "BALLS!" and throwing his hands in the air... A couple of episodes ago, when Lilith was trying to make that deal with Sam to call the whole thing off.. it was because she knew she wasn't going to make it through to see the end/beginning.. She knew her death was the last seal.. for a while. The didn't see this coming thing happened about 4 times in this one.. When Sam's eyes turned black.. I half way expected you to pause.. throw the remote/mouse in the air and walk out of the room. I really like the camera shot of Zachariah on that couch with the multiple mirrors in the background. What sticks in my mind the most about this one is that Sam didn't need the demon blood to use his powers.. he just thought he did. This is the episode that keeps the boys from letting their kids watch the show.. nobody wants to explain why "Unka" Jensen killed mommy while daddy held her still. Or, why daddy killed Aunt Gen...
When Ruby in this episode tells Sam that he "didn't need the feather to fly" and how he had it within him all along, she meant he never had to drink any of the demon blood to kill Lilith. Remember, getting Sam to drinking Ruby's or another demon's blood was not part of Azazel's plan, as Ruby herself was not part of it (she said only Lilith knew), so Azazel gave him everything he needed to break the final seal all on his own. This all goes back to season 2 and what Dean told Sam about him having something the other psychic kids didn't and that was him (Dean himself) and we saw how true that was and as bad as some of the things Sam did in season 4, he still did not willfully turn himself into a monster but needed a lot of prodding. So yes, the reason Sam did not end up like most of the other psychic kids (Max Miller, Jake & others) is because he had Dean watching over him. The psychic kids who went bad did so because they gave into Azazel and what he told them in their dreams or in Max Miller's case because he was in an abusive situation and he had power to do something about it but wasn't in the right mind to control that power or refrain from murdering those who wronged him with it. Dean was the one who kept Sam from exploring his powers like the other psychic kids did. We know Sam had the ability of telekinesis too but he never delved further into it. He never gave into the power of the blood like the others did, which is what caused the ones who went evil to turn that way. Sam just used his visions, which came to him without his control or him having to activate them, to do good and help people and remained passive about his powers thanks to Dean keeping him from doing so. If Sam fully gave into the demon blood, I have no doubt he would've had the combined powers exhibited by all the other psychic kids (super strength, telekinesis, power of persuasion, electric touch, etc) since every one of those others kids all got the demon blood from the same source, i.e. Azazel. Notice how it's not long after Dean is dead that Ruby took advantage of his absence from Sam's life and got Sam to actively use his powers. The demon blood was her way of controlling Sam and turning him into a junkie. It did make Sam stronger in that he wasn't willing to completely give into his powers to become strong like the other psychic kids did in seasons 1 & 2 because Dean was back and with him again, so it did increase his demonic power but he could've just as easily killed Lilith without drinking another drop of demon blood. So the purpose of the demon blood was two-fold: 1) It was like steroids for Sam since he wasn't willing to persistently use his powers and give into Azazel's blood already within him. Think of it like going to the gym and naturally building up your muscles vs. taking steroids and bulking up the easy way. 2) It was their way of controlling Sam. It especially kicked in when Sam stopped drinking it and it pushed him further away from Dean and towards the wrong path as seen by all the hallucinations he had telling him everything he needed to hear to increase his distance from those who loved him like Dean & Bobby and even Chuck when he told Sam how drinking the blood is wrong & how he didn't write it in his scripts.
Oh my stars- what an incredible season! Everyone was firing on all cylinders, both in front of and behind the camera. Super excited to jump in to season 5!
Azazel's dead because he was killed by the colt. All of his scenes were flashbacks taking place in the past 1972. That's way before Sam and Dean were born. We see here that Azazel was talking to Lucifer through a ritual where we see they put the whole plan in motion where Azazel needed to find a child although Lucifer never named Sam which is why there were so many psychic kids in season 2. Azazel never knew which kid he cursed would be the chosen one but we saw at the beginning of this season he favored Mary because she was a hunter and fought back probably something he wasn't used to so from then on he took an interest.
Yeah I realised it was back in time in the second scene, I missed the year on the screen the first time hence the confusion. It was however interesting to see that point of view, and how everything that has happened up until this point started.
Writing is so good. It is Ironic that both brothers had a hand in bringing Lucifer. Dean broke the first Seal and Sam broke the last Seal. Both unknowingly.
Nice video, it's always a very impactful episode to watch! As you mentioned near the end, Lilith knew everything from the start, seeing how she told Sam she'd have to die in the episode they met with Chuck. A quite obscure little fun fact that I haven't seen mentioned in the comments: apparently, the symbol on the ground at the end of the episode is the ancient Armenian symbol for "Eternity" (the "arevakhach"), which in this case suggests strong and profound implications - as in Lucifer (originally, at least, seeing how this episode ends) being locked away for all eternity. Huge credits to MichaelNight on another video of this scene for this obscure little piece of information.

Great finale and a super reaction. After my first watch of this one I loved the reveal of Ruby, Lillith and Alistairs roles, some in which I had small intuitions about but the way it played out was so satisfying. Excellent story-telling, which helps make this some of the highest quality tv in my lifetime. One thing that really had me stumped at the end was that I had a very, very difficult time reading Sams facial expressions as Lucifer was rising. I mean I was getting that he was devastated that he got duped into doing what he did, but as Lucifer was rising it kind of looked like he was excited about his arrival. I wrestled with that idea for the months waiting for season 5.

"I'll hold them all off" is one hell of a line, and yeah, Castiel is facing down the most "fearsome wrath of heaven," Chuck's archangel, and his other brethren. Castiel is changing fate by intervening here, preventing Chuck's prophecy as written on the computer in this episode, titled: "Lucifer Rising." What that means... well that's for the next episode.

It’s a great finale, it felt so different from the other seasons but it really opens up to season 5! This season was incredible so I can’t wait to see what season 5 gave to offer🥹
The one thing I always take away from this episode: Bobby blowing up on Dean. One of the things Dean struggles with is being in the shadow of John Winchester and Bobby was right the fact Dean stood by Sam when John told him to get lost shows that Dean has worth as his own person and that when it comes to Sam its Dean who was the better one not John. The reveal it really goes to show how good and evil are not so clear cut. Both Heaven and Ruby were playing Dean and Sam all along both sides wanted Lucifer free they wanted the apocalypse to happen and Sam and Dean’s relationship was fractured from all their schemes. And its a great parallel Ruby despite her friendship she was secretly working against Sam. And the angels there never was ‘God’s command’ they were just playing by their own rules and used Dean for their own amusements. The voice mail was the push for Sam to kill Lilith and break the last seal. Doesn’t matter if it was the angels or Ruby but that was needed in the end. Yellow eyes planned this from the beginning this was the endgame he alluded to in 4x03 he wanted his ‘father’ free and that set in motion the events that lead to Sam where he is now. Sam had good intentions but tampering with the demon powers was a bad idea from the start. Dean was also mislead he feels unworthy to be pulled from hell and thought he was chosen for a higher purpose in the end it was just lies from the angels. So now Lucifer is free because of it. Onward to season 5!
Shocking finale huh Cora ??. Did you expect Ruby AND Zachariah to be the main villains of the season ??. One of the reasons i love this season so much is because most of it actually feels like 1 big story arc. You even get to know what Azazel's true plans were ever since season 1 !!. Little tease: Sam's decision to follow Ruby and the choices he made is gonna have a HUGE impact on season 5. So do you think Sam & Dean are capable of fighting the ultimate evil: LUCIFER ??.
It’s yes and no honestly!! Some things were and some actually made sense😱 I did not see Zachariah coming, Ruby felt shocking but does in the end make sense. I was just hoping she was different…🥲 I love how they tied Azazels plans in to this season! I’m deciding not to read the teaser as I don’t want any potential spoilers, they may seem small to some but end up being bigger in the end. Yes, Lilith knew she was the final seal. Notice how she all of a sudden stopped possessing girls and started possessing women instead? People (at least most people) are more comfortable about harming adults than children so she chose to possess a woman to make sure Sam would kill her
Remember when Dean went back in time and yellow eyes said my endgame is a hell of a lot bigger than that. We still haven't seen his REAL endgame. His REAL endgame will be revealed next season.

Ok, now that I'm done I would like to express my thoughts: Why do I hate Sam in this season? Sam had the "excuse" that he would look for Lilith to avenge Dean, but we all knew it was just that, an "excuse" he loved having that power, even if he used it for good, EVERYONE told him it was wrong. , he knew it himself and yet, when Dean returned, he played dumb, he hid what he was doing from Dean, from everyone. Even when the angels told him that the "chosen one" was Dean. He didn't listen to anyone, he DECIDED to follow Ruby himself, when she was obviously a demon and the worst of all is that he didn't take responsibility for her actions. I mean, if Dean had already returned, why continue with the "revenge"? Because I love Dean? Because despite everything, he still had his humanity, he still loved his brother "just as he was" when Sam said that Deam had changed, that he was "weak" and... well, I love Dean... even when he does. Things that make you want to hit him. Castiel, I love him, I loved him this season and I will love him forever. I think if he had chosen a female vessel Dean would have fallen in love instantly. "Sin tanta chachara" as we say in my country hahahaha
YES AT LONG LAST!!!! I'VE BEEN ITCHING FOR YOUR REACTION TO THE LAST EPISODE OF SEASON 4! Just wait till you start on season 5 if you haven't already!!! my top 3 favorite episodes are.... 1.yellow fever (Between Dean freaking out at the cat and eye of the tiger blooper, it was hilarious) 2.Lazarus Rising (because of how Cas got introduced was so badass) 3.Rapture (I just loved it because it was tense and a little sad) but great reaction as always and can't wait for your reaction to season 5 which is another one of my favorite seasons of supernatural, the one I've been itching for. But my favourite Characters of this season is 1.Cas 2.Dean 3.Bobby 4.Sam I was like, "that's where you're leaving me AGAIN?! that's it.....I am always expecting a cliffie for every season just so I don't go crazy like freaking Sephiroth"

You have some wonderful episodes on that list, I would probably find it really hard to choose with this many good episodes.🙈 Also finding it hard to pick a favourite character, they are all so amazing in this show. She's literally a demon 😂 their supposed to betray you and lie and steal kill and destroy that's what demons do lol. What I'm about to say is only a spoiler if you look it up or know what I'm talking about. But if she's this emotional over what sam is doing. Can yall imagine her emotions when the mark arrives? I'm gonna feel every ounce of pain when she reacts to that part of the series...
Sam's situation is much worse than the mark. because this is what lived in Sam since he was 6 months old, this is what he was. he is part demon, all these powers are his own powers, and they slowly pulled him under. a mark is something that was temporarily taken from someone else. it was borrowed
Well, admittedly, demons also have a sense of loyalty, as we see with Ruby and Lilith, so I guess there's a little room for surprises, though not much.
I won’t read the second part of the comment, in case it still is a spoiler and I’m not risking that but in terms of Ruby - of course I know she is a demon but she felt very different. I think a part of me was holding up hope that she was, and that in turn all that Sam did would be okay. I am not extremely surprised but still surprised. I did think that there was more too it but maybe not to this extent 🙈

Oh boy, why are you bother commenting stuff like this? I’m just throwing out thoughts, stopping the episode every second to see if I potentially missed something would be a very unpleasant to watch the show and also make a really bad reaction. I edit my own videos so I do rewatch the episode slowly as I edit and usually catch things then. But then to catch ALL details you’d have to watch each episode several times.
