It's that time again, time to pause between seasons and take stock of the journey so far. Has Season Six added any stories to my Top 10? And how do Jamie and Zoe fare in the Top 10 Companions list?

I knew Zoe would kick Susan of the top 10 companies list! Also great to hear that I even got a mention in the video for predicting it

Sorry for not namechecking, I couldn't find the original comment in time! I'm trying to maintain the 3 videos a week schedule again so am rushing the filming of these - doing them as soon as I get time! But yes, you were dead right

60th Anniversary Doctor Who Marathon...Take 2 "Season 6" TV stories The War Games (10/10) The Mind Robber (9/10) The Invasion (9/10) The Seeds of Death (9/10) The Krotons (8/10) The Dominators (6/10) The Space Pirates (4/10) This season is definitely one of the strongest of 60s era Who with more than half the stories being near perfect. Even the weaker stories I was never bored by (with the exception of the Space Pirates). Zoe, Jamie, and the 2nd Doctor are probably the best Tardis team of all time. And there have been some great ones before and since. The Dominators is...almost a guilty pleasure of mine. I like it a lot. Even though the plot is kinda crap and the secondary characters for the most part were completely forgettable. It's so cheesy it can give someone cavities (with me giving the story a 6/10, it was probably successful in doing that to me). I have no problems with the acting of any of the Tardis crew. The Quarks were cute I guess, but hardly my favorite "Quark" character shall we say. The Dominators themselves...oh boy. The subordinate definitely had a Quark fetish and a blowing things up fetish. While the...leader is easily manipulated and too tolerant. With the Invasion, we get the second appearance of a certain Lethbridge-Stewart. I know that some don't count him (along with Benton and Yates) as a companion. However, I definitely will count him. In my mind, if Liz is considered a companion (which I think she is near universally considered one), then the Brigadier needs to be. There is so much going on in the War Games that the 10 episode count is very much needed. The Tardis crew were all on their A game, and some secondary characters were well done. I also loved the multiple "time zone" setting of this. It's probably one of the weakest 10/10 entries though. All of the Time Zone commanders were insufferable, as well as the Security chief (he was, however, the best of those lot). That being said, the Time Lords (as depicted in this story) were the perfect Anti-Heroes. The standout villains of the season is Tobias from the Invasion and the War Chief in War Games. The best Tardis crew ally is Lieutenant Carstairs. Big Finish Operation Werewolf (9/10) The Final Beginning (9/10) Lords of the Red Planet (9/10) The Shroud (9/10) The Wreck of the World (9/10) The Glorious Revolution (9/10) Jamie (9/10) The Prints of Denmark (8/10) Catastrophe Theory (7/10) Wrath of the Ice Warriors (7/10) The Green Man (7/10) The Queen of Time (7/10) Kippers (7/10) Second Chances (7/10) The Vanishing Point (7/10) The Deepest Tragedian (3/10) Operation Werewolf is easily my 2nd favorite Second Doctor story. Despite it being a 9/10. With everything I know about the era, I can't think of the last time a World War 2 setting properly scared me. Nazis knowing who the Doctor is (allegedly), at least one of the Nazis being able to keep track of the Doctor's antics and effectively counter him, and Nazis having teleportation technology (somehow), yeah, this story scared me. To the best of my knowledge, Season 6b has been a theory ever since the Two Doctors in 1985. Now that we finally have stories for that era, it's fun, but a bit of a letdown so far. Michael Troughton does fantastic as the 2nd Doctor, and older Jamie and Zoe are a joy to listen to. This era starts out fairly well, but the most recent box set really feels like filler (in part due to a lot of it feeling slow and a bit pointless. And I am...so done hearing the words "the vanishing point"). Also, the last 2 box sets end on huge cliffhangers. My recommendation for Season 6b (or the Second Doctor Adventures range): Recommend the 1st box set, but might want to hold off on getting the rest of the range until the current Arc is completed. Having cliffhangers can be fun and everything, however, there is a huge difference in waiting for a week (like in the TV show) and waiting for a year (between these box sets). So, hopefully by the time of my next marathon, this Arc will be complete. Not planning on getting more until it is. Companion rankings Vicki Jamie Zoe Ian Chesterton Steven Taylor Polly Barbara Wright Victoria Brigadier Ben Oliver Sara Susan Dodo Katarina My Second Doctor retrospective will follow shortly. Possibly later today.

Good choices. I’ve always preferred the capable and intelligent female companions to the screamers. Jamie is one of the best male companions - if not THE best (not that he had a lot of competition). Though he wasn’t in every consecutive episode, I wonder if you’ll consider the Brigadier one as well (I do).

Viki and Zoe are tied together at the top at this point in the show.

I loved Jamie’s length of time in the TARDIS-he joined for adventure and he never tired of travelling. Will Caroline johns enter the top ten? Her character was not always well-served….

Season Seven is so short that we'll find out VERY SOON if Caroline John makes it into the Top 10!

What jumps out at me from your top ten is that you don’t really like Dr Who with aliens. Most of your tops are historicals or sci-fi with humanoids alone eg Savages and War Games.

That's not strictly true. Because something's not in the Top 10 doesn't mean I don't like it, I like most of Doctor Who. I do have a preference for historicals, you're right, but it's not that I don't like the other stuff
