The worst of it all is when the nights do not cool down or remain warm during the summer and winter months. After a long hot day of 90 or even 100 degrees but it cools down to say 60 by 5 AM, our homes and buildings are prepared to deal with the heat gains which will take much longer to rise when compared to the same hot day but the evening temp never gets below 80. By the time the morning sun hits, we're already 20 degrees higher and much easier to absorb the heat causing temps to rise much sooner vs. later. We've taken advantage of these temp swings by opening windows when the summer nights are cooler. We gain a good 4 hours of "precooled" on the next hot day and post cooling depending on how soon it cools down that evening or maybe into the next morning. This especially works well for garages that are not conditioned air. The only thing that might stand in the way of this idea is humidity. Now, we are getting concerned for CA politics with HVAC, water heating, clothes dryers and cooking appliances. It seems fairly obvious the state want all existing residents to convert to 100% electric even though their homes may not be wired for all electric. Lots of homes were built with mostly all gas cooking, laundry, HVAC and water heating yet the state seems to believe that private property owners do not have any rights to keep their homes using what they have had for decades. If an owner wants to change over and paid thousands of dollars to an electrician for electric heating and so forth, thats their option but when the state is coming in and possibly forcing people to go with only electric which means higher utility costs in addition to the costs of converting over, I have to disagree with their ideas as we are dealing with private property ownership issues. This idea also means that folks will have no alternatives to energy needs other than electric. Seems too far fetched plus folks will find out that electric heating of any sort will probably cost them 4 times more money than natural gas. 4X more !
