Good Sunday morning, Kim and Levi. Bacon 🥓 looks yummy. I can't believe Jake didn't want those cast iron set. Just discarded with food stuck inside. I am glad you got this, cleaned it up, and are now using it. 😊
It was just one piece. I don't know if he has a set or not. But it worked out perfectly for me because I already had a red pot. Now I have a red skillet ❤
Kim beautiful CI skillet , I love CI I’ve cooked on it all my life ! My momma cooked on CI and I started cooking full meals at age 8 standing on orange crates and have been cooking in it since and I’m almost 73 now!! I have some of my great aunts CI, and my mommas and some pieces I’ve picked up myself ! God bless ❤️🙏🙋🏻🌈🌈
Thats great that you could salvage that pan, Kim. Rummage sales are not meant to get dirty things, but loved items are great. I cant afford anything new but I get all my needs met with Garage Sales and Thrift Shops.
Hi Kim and Levi. That was an awesome skillet. Great find. I cannot use them as they are just too heavy for me but when I could they do cook food well. Great little tutorial. Enjoy your Sunday lunch today. Take care God Bless. 💕🙏🦋
Good morning Kim and Levi❤ I do the same thing I have stuff up In my loft I’ve had for 6 years and haven’t used them yet I can’t seem to let them go. Y’all have a blessed day!
Good morning Kim ♥️ I personally like listening to you 'rambling' about things...😊 The cast iron skillet looks great... You and Levi have a blessed day.
Thanks Kim for showing us how to care for cast iron. I bought a small skillet a while ago and didn’t know what to do with it. It said in the instructions to oil it and put it in the oven. I was afraid it might start smoking and set my smoke alarm off. Your way seems a lot safer! I’m going to try it and make some corn bread in it! I always learn something from you!! Thanks again!
The reason they tell you to put it in the oven is to season the outside too. Yes, it will probably make some smoke, but you don't need to leave it very long, just enough time for the oil to soak in. I've had mine for over 50yrs & any new piece I put in the oven for 10-15 min on 200°F. Once you do this rub it well once it's cool. Any food you cook in it just wipe out any residue, no need to wash, taste will not transfer, then put a little oil on paper towel & wipe the inside all over really well. Cornbread is so good in it. Put some butter or bacon grease before pooring your batter. Good luck to you from this cajun lady. 👩🦳😊
Good morning Kim and Levi 🌞when I clean my cast iron pans I put water in it ,then set on stove to boil a few minutes, then drain that water, using a nylon scruby, rinse, then put back on the stove on heat until dry, then put oil in and do the same as you ,wiping with a paper towel, your Dad made a video on how he does his cast iron,( he does it the same way my Father in law did his)have a blessed 😇 day and enjoy your new(old) cast iron pan ❤️
Love the red. I have the 10” and 12” cast iron skillets from Pampered Chef. Takes me right back to my grandmothers kitchen in Fort Worth. Wish I had her pans.
Good find Kim it matches the red in your kitchen. It’s also a great size. I hope you have a good time using it and I am sure wonderful food will be cooked in it. Enjoy your day sweetie. ❤
Your skillet looks brand new again. I season mine the same way as you. I gave a cast iron to my daughter andcson. I have mine that my mother gave me and it's the only skillet i use. I know the one I use has come a long way since my mother gave it to me. I love my skillet.
Hi Kim. What a great find. It is nice to see you respond to some of the comments. Most video creators only put hearts next to comments or nothing at all, and we really don't know if any of them actually read the comments. Thanks Kim.
That's a new cast iron skillet in great condition! That reminds me when I was in my early 20s and I didn't want to wash something that took elbow strength so I would throw them away and that's exactly what Jake done🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kim, I have that same skillet...I call it my Red Bottom skillet...They burned the bottom on the grill one day, but I told them never again....I love that skillet...
Love yard sales my old church had huge ones an love cast iron ! Hard for me to handle any more hands are crippled ! But still use just have to be ect are careful ! Need to but some lighter weight ones but know want like them! Hope you an Levi have a good week !❤
Kim i keep my bacon grease in the fridge. I also have a recipe form the Great Grandmother for Ginger Cookies that uses bacon grease. It makes 6 dozen cookies. DELICIOUS!
Do you guys ever do a taco bar for Sunday dinners? We have family gatherings and just fry up some hamburger meat and set out lettuce tomatoes, grated cheese, sour cream, really whatever taco toppings people might want. We have used the Tostitos jars of quest, hot sauce, sometimes i do canned refried beans and put them in a glass dish and microwave them. We get flour and corn tortillas and hard taco shells. You can go as simple or as elaborate as you want. Hardly any cooking, everyone makes their own so they get what they want! We also put the tortilla on a dinner plate and cover it with another plate and just heat them in the microwave. My family ever requested it several years in a row for Christmas. It's just a take on sandwiches. We akso did a family Chilie night. You cook a big pot of chilie, you can even make it the day before and stick it in a crockpot. We bought hotdogs, buns, rekish, mustard, diced onions and cheese, and bags of Freetos and crackers. Again everyone just makes what they want- just a bowl of chili, a chili dog, or freeto pie!
I had received a set of cast iron pots pans as a gift. I had no clue how to use them, so I gave them away to my friend who used them and I believe she still does.
My mom used to as soon as she used it put hot water in it and boil it on the stove to loosen gunk up. I use salt and paper towels if stuff gets stuck on it.
I never knew how to use and care for the CI. They’ve always been a little too heavy for me, so I use other cookware. It’s almost like dumpster diving and finding a treasure. 😊❤❤❤
A well seasoned cast iron pan is so easy to use! Yes, with some things, you need to use oil, but with other things, it is non-stick! I have one pan that I use only for corn bread and rolls, it’s perfect!
I'm old my mom was 93 when she died my grandma died @106 we always washed our cast iron every single time we used it, then while it's still scalding hot from being rinsed we grease it up and hang them on our pot and pan hooks. Now when make a lot of gravy in ours as well that maybe the difference. But if we just fry meat in it we still scald it and grease it back
I love my cast iron pans , for the longest time I didn’t use them because I had a glass too stove 🙄didn’t realize you could use them on the glass😂😂 now I know!!
Kim you won’t ever please everyone. Just watch someone will complain because you were eating on this video. I say do what works for you. I think that skillet looks really nice. It’s a cute red color.
I love my cast iron pans I didn’t know not to use soap at first but learned but my mom taught me to dry my by heating it up so it don’t rust! Which works well for me I only do it on low and it just few seconds that beacon made hungry lol tgen talk of sandwiches now Thanks Kim your tomatoes I want a BLT😂😂
After I wash mine not with soap of course I turn my burner on high till it starts to smoke that's how I completely dry it and then wipe it down with some oil each time
Do u wash them with dish soap like normal ! Thag my ? Or do u just wipe it with paper towels between use . I know u all use cast ! This why asking . Your dad so amazing with his pans
Hey Kim, coming from England 🇬🇧 I still do not get the season thing 😂😂 I cook, then put it in the dishwasher, until the next time I use it. What am I missing 😮
I wish I knew how to take care of cast iron when I got my mother in laws skillet. I ended up using soap & water on it like I did my other pans. Of course the skillet rusted & I threw it away as I thought it was ruined.🤦🏼♀️
Hi Kim I’m new to a cast iron so your saying every time I cook with my cast iron I’m seasoning it with oil? So when I am done cooking on it do I rinse with water only and then season it again? I’m confused on the cleaning it when done cooking with it. 💜🦋
