AJs improving real fast, hes gotten real good at this! Also, try bringing the wheel closer to your chest when driving on track, makes the experience much more realxing! Keep it up :)
AJ, you have one of the best jobs in the world! You must feel like a kid in a sweet shop most days. What i have deduced from your presentation is that the Ateca FR is excellent for those who want a fast, aggressive looking machine with the feeling of safety and comfort. However, the Leon Cupra is far better for those who want the raw experience. I think the future Ateca Cupra is designed to bridge that gap so i'll be looking forward to that presentation to see if that's the case.
After watching the world premier with Brian of the Ateca Cupra I think the fr trim level will give you about 90% of the fun without the high price of the cupra.Well done Aj a really good review .
Hi! Good video! Actually there is a Tiguan GTI, the one that sits in the MQB platform, has lowered suspension, quattro and uses the 220hp engine from the "standard" Golf GTI. Nevertheless VW doesn't sell it like a "Tiguan GTI". Same case with the Q3. There is one petrol version with 220hp, quattro and optional 20mm lowered suspension (!). And if you choose not to spec it with the panoramic roof you have a very decent centre of gravity for that kind of car. You guys should know these cars DO exist... I will strongly recommend a video comparing these models Cheers
Great video, but 4 wheel drive cars tend to understeer not oversteer (unless it sends more power to the back wheels but that's not really the case with VW in practice, just in paper) You get liftoff oversteer though.
Good review but I want to mention that I can easily kick the tail of my 4 drive ateca if I want. The trick is to switch the esc mode to sport in the car menu. Switching the dial to sport isn't enough 😉
Well done, AJ! You were having way too much fun on the track with that Cupra! :-) It's a pity we didn't get some video from the 2.0 TSI, but at least you could drive it and told us about it. Sounds like a good choice to me. I have always liked the look of the Ateca, but missed a petrol engine with a bit more power. And because I heard quite a few reports about the Ateca's suspension being quite firm, I thought it could do with adaptive suspension. With that being here now too, it sounds like a very interesting car. There's no pricing on it yet in the Netherlands, though.. I'm curiou, how the adaptive suspension in 'normal' mode compares to the standard (non-adaptive) suspension? I thought the adaptive suspension in the MQB platform always had three modes: comfort, normal and sport. So this seems to be different?
Hi Gerard, thanks a lot :) and actually, i do drive the 2.0l tsi on camera at 23:15.. unfortunately, i didnt have much time with that car so we couldn't get drive-by footage or other exterior shots.. i had more time with the 2.0l tdi, so we filmed all the other segments with that, as well as the driving at 49:16.. :) sometimes, due to the prevailing circumstances and time limits, we have to film in a different order than what would be in the final film. So, sometimes we miss out the connections and flow. As far as i saw, there are only 2 modes for the Seat DCC- normal and sport. there is certainly a noticeable difference between them and its standard on the FR trim. But you are right, the ateca without DCC has a slightly stiffer suspension.
Thanks AJ! That's great that we did actually get the 2.0 TSI on video. I just re-watched that part. The fact that both the diesel and the petrol have 190 hp doesn't help to stop the confusion! :-) Good to hear about the suspension. Sounds like they did just the right thing here. The right thing to get my warm interest, anyway..
+Aditya Jayaram - Many thanks, v entertaining driving parts - v clever to do commentary and twirl the steering wheel, adjust central display, adjust seat and wheel, select auto or manual, all at the same time - well done! On an unknown track! Interesting point from Gerard: DCC did not have a Comfort mode, as is usual. Glad DCC worked though - a big improvement on a standard firm Ateca! Personal opinion: driving a New Tiguan with DCC, Comfort mode is good and compliant in town and on bad back roads at low speeds. Cheers AJ.
Hi Gordon :) thanks for your feedback. I agree, the Tiguan will certainly be more comfortable as compared to the Ateca. The DCC is a welcome improvement indeed.
Indeed surprising that they now introduce DCC for the Ateca whereas before, it seemed like they wanted to have that reserved for the Tiguan. Probably a reaction to the FR which will always come with those big rims, that it wont be less comfortable with the big rims. What I couldnt find out yet if you can get DCC on ANY Ateca now or just for the FR. /Thomas
@41:10 AWESOME SHOT!!! :D Btw I thought the demonstration at the end accelerating from 30kph to 100 was revealing. It took about 3 seconds for the gearbox to respond once you pressed the pedal. Appalling and could be dangerous in certain situations (say on a roundabout or pulling out of a junction). This is a serious problem I've noticed all VW group cars have (either that or turbo lag which is really extreme when you put a turbo in such a small engine). I would have to test drive an Ateca myself before buying one as this is a deal breaker for me now. I have a skoda suv and this issue drives me mad.
+Umur Gümüşbaş if the car is FWD or most of the time FWD until the rear gets active, a huge rear spoiler might not be the best solution as it pulls the rear down and the front axle loses traction instead.

I dont know about techinal thinks but a rear spolier like the A45 amg has would look perfect on leon I think :) And why not a 4drive for hatchback version? only st has it?
I hope VW allow Seat to use a more decent engine at some point for the Cupra, you know, higher than a 2.0 litre. But I think only Audis and VWs are allowed to use those engines :(
Excuse english google translator. And my write. Road car Cupra on the track at 46:58 "the seats are really letting it down!" I think was all sudden movements of the steering wheel that made AJ say this! The car performed remarkable and smooth considering everything. I am not sure the car was in Sport, see 45:15 and the revs sometimes drop on liftoff. The transmission adapted I think. If it was in D and had DCC the adaptive dampers were working hard. That Cupra did really well. No, Cupra can't have been in D. Very good video. I much enjoyed. Thank you.
Great review AJ what do Seat call that colour.Id like to buy the Leon cupra St but the Ateca cupra could be interesting.Great work again from Autogefuhl.
I was thinking the same, but obviously in highway driving it does. It seems like more displacement and more power lets the engine rev lower and therefore consume less. With the 1.4 TSI we had 8 l / 100 km.
Great video I've watched it a few times.AJ have you any idea when the Ateca cupra will be out.Im waiting for it as it's a toss up between the Leon cupra and Ateca cupra.
Please do a review of the Ford Focus Estate, or a comparison between the Ford Focus, Seat Leon and Opel Astra estates. Would love to see what car you would suggest being the best of these 3.
Okay, it's a lack of understanding from me beause at 11:30 AJ says that the car have a TDI engine but after on the highway I did not notice that the car is driving was blue. So yes it's not the same ^^ but he doesn't specify that he driving the 190 TSI.
I'm not a fan of SUVs with body kits but this actually looks nice. But WHY won't Seat supply memory for the electric Seats?! Also, it seems that Skoda uses better quality materials in the interior.
