Straps should be crossed. At this moment when you are turning right seat leans left and force should be felt on the left strap but the right one is tensioned thou straps should be crossed - right strap to left bolt and left one to right bolt.
Hmm that's a very good point! I'll give that a try tomorrow and see if it feels noticeably different. Because you're usually braking in a straight line it's probably not a dramatic difference but definitely worth investigating! :)
Good idea mate. Mine are both centrally mounted so I get even force regardless of the corner. It's just how I rigged it up the straps on the cross bar on the V2 Ultimate Rig. It might make a difference. Although I'm pretty happy with the tension I get. In VR the whole thing with the belt force too is really convincing! :)
You would think they need to be crossed but in the right-hand corner in the video, boosted media pointed to his left-shoulder and said you can really feel it in the shoulder. So maybe they don't have to be crossed?
Great video mate. Glad you liked it. I did this mod to mine as at first I was underwhelmed by the braking motion out of the box. It wasn't till I did this that the whole rig just clicked. I think it almost adds another degree of freedom to the motion for free. Since the straps only add load in forward motion, the load effect is the number of kg required to pull the bungee strap. So if it takes 10kg to extend the strap, that's the extra weight load applied to the forward motion. That said, since it's effectively a spring load, it also removes that extra load when the motion rig wants to pull back and actually assists the motor. So... Quid pro quo really. Really liked your reaction. It's exactly what I did with mine. My mate did the same to his and same reaction too. Why the rig doesn't come with this mod is beyond me. Next time I go down to NLR, I'll take a mod kit with me and show them first hand. :)
Instead of using bungies I used the 30 inch solid rubber ones that come with s hooks. They are much stronger. I placed them through an eye hook (attached to floor behind and to the side of my DOF P6) and attached both ends to the belt. After testing it ocurred to me that you would get more even pressure from cornering if you crossed the rear belts. It worked now both belts tighten when turning. Try it for yourself.
I found that this works a lot better if the Shoulder harnesses can be mounted to something solid at shoulder height. I previously had a wall behind my rig and i attached them directly to the wall. I have now moved the rig and attached the belts to the chassis as you have done but I notice it is not as good. I am now going to build a framework behind the chair to replicate the wall. I also use a double reduction pulley (in reverse) to amplify the movement of the chair.
There is an active seat belt tensioner that you can build yourself that uses small servos to tighten and loosen. Just google it and you'll probably find it from a guy named "Seattime".
Your defiantly on the right track Will. I had my harnesses solidly mounted initially and nearly broke my collar bones! 😄 Ocky straps probably won’t last that long though. Steel springs might be the answer.
I was originally going to use springs but struggled to find something that wasn’t too strong. The occy straps should last ok though as they’re not being stretched to anywhere near their limits.
I have a 6DOF motion rig with a huge amount of travel. With this belt setup: pitch ,roll, and heave would smash me... so I'm planning to route the straps from shoulders down the back of the seat, (use a rachet strap to add length and quick adjustments) forward under the seat to the front by my knees, over a polished smooth rod or pulley and back to the floor base at the back. So I'll feel the belts tension up when the seat translates forward (brake surge) but the geometry should allow for full roll, pitch, and heave without tension. I would like the cross shoulder effect with sway (cornering) effects; I could run the front side of the strap through the seat and across to the other side.. that would work, and it would add effects to heave motion as well.
Tried this today with great expectations. However I was seriously underwhelmed. Did the belts tighten? Yes ever so slightly, but far from noticeable unless you really are paying attention to it during driving. I use a real 6 point race harness, and race with it fairly tight, so that might be the reason. Tried to tighten the bungee, and double up on bungee cord, but still not as I was expecting. I guess to make this work you have to have the belts very loose to feel the tighten. But my interest is spiked, so need to look at belt tensioner motors now. :)
I don't have a motion platform, just a playseat challenge I've pimped out, but I might try hooking a bungee strap to my brake pedal and attach the other end to the seat belt behind the seat, so that when I depress it, it will tighten the seat belt. Could be a very budget DIY solution to get a similar effect.
@@00Clive00 I'm gonna try this soon hopefully it works out. Do you think a big piece of plywood is needed for the whole playseat or just the part to attach the pulleys to it?
@@DVZ_91 For it to work effectively, I'm thinking one pulley will have to be higher than your shoulder, just make sure you get a rock solid fixing on the playseat frame, I've used lots of "25 mm universal handlebar rear view mirror mount M8 motorcycle" Google that if you need some, by far the best way to fix things to the playseat challenge.
Awesome mod! Thanks for the video! Ordering the V3 soon. How much additional force do you think this setup is applying to the V3? I weigh 235lbs and I know the weight limit on the V3 is 285lbs. Do you think this mod adds 20lbs or more of force?
Great video, I'm planning to upgrade my RS1 with this platform this year. Definitely going to do this mod too! One more thing, not sure if this has been answered, but why aren't you upgrading to DD1/DD2? :)
Well the purpose of the seat mover is to simulate the sorts of movements you feel in a real race car in the absence of actual g-force. The belts are a little looser than you would have with a 5 point harness in a real car but it works amazingly well at adding that extra level of feeling when you brake.
Then those belts move with you. I have nlr+ belts + tensions springs as well and it's good enhacement to your rig. Not necessary but if you all invested that deep then definitely do this upgrade
Hey Will! Are you still running a similar mod with your belts? Obviously your rig has drastically evolved and you are much more experienced. Just curious if you’re still using this. I’m working out a way to do it with my DBox G5 system.
I'll be very I interested in your response. I'm currently 100% VR but I'm wondering how triples would feel. Sometimes I don't want to strap it to my face and also I wouldn't mind having a button box :) I'm also rocking the NLMv3. Solid kit. Easy to use and no fuss.
@@Ivwin had my rift s since Vader immortal was released, loving it. I agree the index is better but at the cost it should be, also factor in no shipping or warranty in Australia
Would this work too with a couple of good springs with hooks on the ends? All the straps I found here are way too long (min 30 cm), which I think it's too much.
In the YMMV category I tried this with single and double bungees and ribbon bungees on each side and the combination of those with my NLRv3 was something that I could barely notice. I'm all for experimenting and this is inexpensive enough that you can easily try for yourself. Maybe it's something you will notice. I didn't.
@@marka6487 I put a G-Belt on my seat and THAT is the real deal. It pulls back when you brake nicely and proportionally. I has a good cornering effect pulling harder on the outside shoulder and it has a good shift effect. For me the G-Belt was a game changer and actually provides useful information while racing besides being very immersive.
@@markkovalcson7243 They were out of stock on those when I was looking but the door closers work really well. I have the straps crossed over so that I feel the effect when cornering. It really makes a big difference, you only have to touch the brakes and you can feel it and it is progressive. Combined with a Pimax 8Kx I have to keep reminding myself ,"it's not a real car". Having experienced the difference it makes I can see that the G-belt would be a worthwhile investment but this will do for now. I would really like something that could enhance the feeling of acceleration so I think something like the G-seat might be next on my list.
@@marka6487 The next thing that takes emersion to a new level is a serious tactile system. I'm running BK-CT's front and rear and TST329 and TST429 front and rear and have 4 exciters ordered to mount on the seat back. Isolation matters as well. You'd be grinning ear to ear actually feeling serious multi-layered tactile effects. I've got 4 Aura's collecting dust BTW. They don't hold a candle to the tactile I've got now and I'm not done yet. The G-Belt with Tactile covers a LOT of ground. Motion is very helpful in flight games and in Rally, but on the track I could completely live without it. The G-Seat does look to be a good system. I really like the comfort of my seat, so I'm a bit hesitant to swap my seat out. However I've seen GS5 owners who add additional foam to make those Metal framed Kirkey seats more comfortable.
@@markkovalcson7243 I am thinking that tactile might be a better route as the seat mover with belt tightener does most of what the G-seat does. Have been looking at the shakeit for something plug and play but am interested to see your "final" configuration.
I would like to use a metal tension spring. Partly because it will look better on my rig. Any idea of what diameter and length of a spring i should use?
hello, I'm French, a big thank you for your video, I also have a Next Level Racing V3 and I want to test, the problem is that the brand of your rubber bands did not send to France suddenly I buy elastics of 12mm in diameter, do you think it will be enough and how many do you do ?? thank you for your answer ;)
Hi! Nice Mod! Keep making good video! they are very informative and nice. Congratulations! Can you please tell me what size are those straps? I have to buy them in italy. Thank you in advance!
VR makes it so realistic, very fun. What is to lol at with his pedal camera? I feel his camera angles are great, better then a lot. Just curious is all.
Hey any chance you have an idea where I can mount a seat belt to my 8020 rig? I’m getting dbox soon and that will move the entire rig so unsure where I can mount the seat belt to have tension?
Hey mate deffo gonna do this mod think without a seat belt you loose some of the amazing power the motion has its incredible!! What length are the bungie chords please
Hello Win can you please provide me the links to the tensioners and the other thing that bolts on the M8 bolts please so i can order the same ones. Thanks!
Hi. Can you give me a link to the straps and the rings? I have an NLR MP v3 and would love to do this mod but I'm scared of getting too strong straps so want to get the exact brand and model you got juat to be safe. Also, do you know where I can buy a fairly cheap seatbelt similiar to the one that came with your NLR cockpit?
Sorry. Don’t have the specific details anymore. They were all from a local hardware store. eBay or Wish would probably be your best bet for a cheap seat belt
Interesting. I asked them specifically before I did it and posted the video and they told me it was fine as long as you use bungee cord or a spring of some description so it’s not too tight.
@@boostedmedia I have a new motion v3 and now i have a fan speed issue. They wrote me this: "Hi Koni, Are you able to remove the elastic straps from the back of your unit and then try using the Platform? The Motion Platform isn't designed to handle that type of resistance which looks to be causing the error messages. Let us know how you go with this." I hope we can solve the problem! I'm in contact with NLR
How can you race with loose belts? Your straps need to be tight, especially on a V3. Try Dirt Rally with what you have suggested. A lot of sims I run on 1.5 in settings.
