I thought about warning you of the archives and wanting the sacrifice ring for it cause of the forced death.... But rite of passage and all: Once again welcome to dark souls. Shit aint fair
I'm terrible with directions so I found the Duke's Archive to be one of the quickest areas to explore. It's easier to tell where you are and where you still need to go in a level that's basically one giant room. I think it was a brilliant design decision to not have any sort or map in this game. It makes the areas feel more like real places somehow. Maybe seeing a miniature version of a place makes it feel smaller? Oh and consider yourself lucky with Seath. I'm not sure why this wasn't happening but normally his attacks have some substantial curse buildup tied to them. You don't have a purging stone do you? It's going to be difficult to retrieve that 8 humanity on your death splat. Like that other comment said a ring of sacrifice would be the simplest way. If you end up getting cursed that would ruin everything though.
Zweinheizer, I like it haha Edit: ah man I feel for you with seath, had the thought to go spend your souls and buy a ranged weapon, only to realise he is invulnerable. That boss didn't reward creativity, but maybe you can get justice soon
