Wu-tang. Is more old school east coast. That being said there hella tight. U don’t seem like their target audience 😂 there’s like 9 of them that could all be successful on their own. But choose to be a group .
yea you need a certain level of "understanding" to fully get what they are saying, plus understand the slang. Its kinda like Seinfeld. its funny, but if you live in NYC and understand the cultural references, then its just SOOO intelligent, humorous and groundbreaking. glad you enjoyed this one more.
Ol Dirty Bastard was locked up at the time this video dropped the reason why the lyrics aren't making sense to you all their speaking in 5 precent ( Nation Of God's & Earths) in Allah Mathematics theology slang
ODB was locked up so he couldn't be on it. Cypher is a circle of people rappin. He's calling them punks. Some Wu members used to travel throughout the NYC boroughs and battle people in cyphers. My favorite verse on this track was always Masta Killa. He's making a lot of references to the teachings of the nation of Gods and Earths. And then he says the best line ever "Giving sight to the blind, the dumb are mostly intrigued by the drum, Death only one can save self from". This is saying that Wu is giving you knowledge, but the ignorant people only hear the drums, not the wisdom in the lyrics. And giving knowledge through music is like giving sight to the blind. And listening to the knowledge is like saving yourself from a slow death of the mind.
Might help to understand New York rap. Also the time era. Nobody sounded like them, and they kind of were nerdy but cool. People could enjoy nerdy things without admitting it, like karate lol.
Wu aren't exactly a beginner friendly rap group to get into lol it takes some background knowledge of the slang and culture around that time. I recommend listening to "The World is Yours", and "If I Ruled the World (Imagine That)" by Nas. I also suggest listening to "Electric Relaxation" and "Check The Rhime" by A Tribe Called Quest. getting into the more conscious and jazzy side of 90s rap will help a ton later when trying to get into more rougher East Coast side of the genre.
Interesting is that the album this song was on, Wu Tang Forever” was Number 1 album in the world. Not Number 1 Rap album. Not Number one album in the United States. Number 1 album in the World. And RZA had all original music and beats on this album without any sampling.
@@BehindTheBeatReactions the last episode of Season 3 of the Wu Tang series touched on it. RZA hired an orchestra and had them perform for him. He recorded everything and used that to make every song on the album. All songs are live instruments.
Kano - 3 wheels up Cass is dead - 6pm Positive k - I gotta man Queen latifa- had it up to here Naughty by nature- yoke the joker M.O.P - on the Frontline
The blood clot reference is just a Jamaican curse word. It’s actually blood cloth, but ‘h’ is not pronounced in Jamaican creole so people think what they’re hearing is blood clot.
lol it's edited they edit everything- you can't say smoke pot or damn or crap or anything- and as i’m sure has been said without even looking- the opening by inspectah deck is universally looked at as one of the best verses in all of hip hop history- it's fine y'all don't like rap diff'rent strokes for different folks
I love you guys doing this. Way to expand horizons. I grew up knowing bands like Fleetwood Mac and Steve Miller in my constant stream of conscious, whether I wanted to hear it or not(I did). I appreciate watching you make hip hop part of your stream of conscious.
Deck and GZA are tied to me personally for the best members with the sharpest skills and swords (lyrically) and RZA with the intricate word play and vocabulary. Ghost Face/Raekwan and then Meth. Rank by order of best to least.
They use the Supreme Alphabet & Supreme Mathematics in their songs. Which comes from the Nation of Gods & Earths aka 5%ers. It’s a group that was created by Clarence 13X after he had a falling out with the Nation of Islam. See = C Cypher = O or 0 C.O. Is the abbreviation for corrections officer. He’s saying that that the corrections officers couldn’t hold them & calling them punks.
They grew up watching old kung fu movies in theaters. They came from rough homes and got lost in the fantasy of the movies as children, their escape , which inspired all the kung fu refrences. Or thats what I remember being said. Maybe helps make sense. Was never a fan of the northern rap sound myself, but understand the concept and love they get.
Listen to shook one's part 2 by mobb deep and see if you can identify the sound in intro sample. I already know... I don't think you guys can figure it out on your own but when you find out... it will be fun for you and your followers
same noise you hear when you lighting up a gas stove lol Intro of that sound means they are cooking something really good and its a subtle hint of that track.
This was funny. Watching two bros that are not true hip hop heads trying to figure the Wu Tang out. I definitely enjoyed though 🤙🏻 maybe check out the track Hellz wind staff off the Forever album
Grew up to this cd, for fans of different type of music I would've recommended Wutang clan ain't nothing to fuck with.. Cream, Ice Cream, The city. and this.
March Of The Wooden Soldiers, C Cypher Punks (Cypher=0 In Five-Percenter slang) SO.....CO Punks= Correction Officers Its a jail riot fellas......this is hysterical lovin this.....and yes, this is the edited version fellas you're missing alot of good lines........WHAT THE BLOOD-CLOT, WE SMOKE POT ......🤣😂😂
Ok guys. If ur on this train you GOTTA react to Coast Contra. They are brand new, but the essence of hip hop. Do the Never Freestyle first and then go down the rabbit hole trust me. New sub!
It's going to be really hard to listen to just a couple WuTang songs and be able to understand the lyrics. That's one of the great things about WuTang. Their lyrics are like a different language. A lot of it is 5% Nation of Islam and Staten Island(Shaolin) street lingo. But cool thing is when you do figure it out your in a small group. This is going to be corny to say but true, a lot of people listen to WuTang but only a few understand WuTang. Side note the Method Man lyrics was" what the bloodclot/we smoke pot"
@BehindTheBeatReactions RZA actually wrote The WuTang manual Which has a whole Dictionary part that breaks down the meaning of words and phrases. Couple quick ones for you and anyone else that reads is. A lot of the phrases come from 5% Nation. They have what's call mathematics which is 1-10 where each # represents a word. A lot of NY rappers from the 90s use this; Nas, Mobb Deep etc. So when they say culture culture that 44 which would be a 44mag gun or culture Cypher that's 40 which is either a 40cal gun or a 40oz beer. You hear them say "God" alot, as in "peace God" "what up God" That's cuz 5% believe the original man was a black man so that present man is the creator of everything hence they are the Gods. It's not all Islam stuff they rap about everything From drug dealing to physics to astronomy to history. They're raps the blow your mind if you break down the lyrics. It stuff you would not think young black men from the Staten Island projects would rap about. I mean hell, GZA has held lectures at Harvard. These dudes are awesome. I think if you took a little bit of time to break down some of the songs and lyrics you would become fans too. Sorry for the super long message. I'm a 42 year old white catholic dude but I've been a huge WuTang fan for 25 years so I get really hyped when I met someone who's just found our about Wutang. Thanks yall
