After handling both, there is zero chance I’ll ever buy a Sebenza. The Anthem on the other hand I’m saving for. The Anthem wins on: Steel Lock type Ambi use Comfort in hand Pocket clip Disassembly is simpler Weight Action and ease of use In my view it isn’t even close. The Anthem by a mile.

I hear ya Derek, all valid points you've made. My thought is, they are both beautiful knives inside and out. Like you said about the Anthem, it wins with the steel, ergos, and for being ambidextrous friendly (and weight too). For me, the lock is more a matter of preference. Is the AXIS lock strong? You bet it is, but so is the RIL. The Anthem probably has the best action I have ever experienced. The Sebenza is a true engineering feat from the tip of the blade to the pummel. If the Sebenza had a ball-bearing pivot, then there would be some very tough choices to make. Thanks for watching Derek.

The Knife Beater I guarantee the Axis lock handily beats the frame lock on sheer lock strength. It’s going to take a heckuva lot more force to shear that Axis lock bar than it will to deform the frame lock into uselessness. Many lock strength force tests show that.

I nearly bought an anthem last week, but bought my first CRK instead: a large plain Inkosi(basically a beefed up, improved sebenza 25) I do not regret the decision. Beautiful beautiful knife! Sure the s35vn has less edge retention(better strength, however), but I've never used a QUALITY knife so much in one sitting where the steel dulled before all my tasks have completed. I'm cool with it I have a benchmade 761 ti monolock with m390, titanium framelock on bearings. The new inkosi has retired it for now

It was a wise decision Fritz. It's kinda comforting to know that as long as CRK is around, they will take care of our knives if they ever need service. Many don't understand that's part of the reason why their knives cost what they do. I did end up getting the Anthem too, man do I love that knife. I've actually almost purchased a ti monolock a few times now, such a good looking blade. Thanks for watching Fritz.

I've owned my Anthem for a few months now & I absolutely love it! I've never owned a CRK, but someday I hope to. Overall, for some reason I can almost never get excited about frame locks or liner locks. It's not that I'm bad at using them, I do have plenty & I can fidget with them just fine. I just prefer to open & close my knives effortlessly with systems like the axis lock, button lock, & compression lock. The way you break down the comparison in this video seems impartial, which I'm very glad to see. If both of the knives in the video are yours, then you're in the enviable position of not having to choose one or the other! 😃 Anyway, great job as always! I'll be on the lookout in the future for other videos you already have released or will release in this format. Thanks, my man! 😃

About a year ago I walked into a store that had a pretty good high end knife display, unusual for my area.... I didn’t know anything about the Anthem but started handling the knives that caught my eye, after 20-25 knives I picked up the Anthem and I knew this was “the” knife! It felt so much better than any of the other knives I handled, you could tell this knife was different...I had to have it. Must have been my blessed day, the guy sold it to me for $300. As I said I knew nothing about the Anthem but figured this was a good price knowing what BM’s go for and when I heard the materials of the knife were. So even if I don’t carry the Anthem everyday I still flick it a few times before crashing for the nite. The action and the sound is addictive. Thanks for the video!
@TheKnifeBeater
@TheKnifeBeater 5 лет назад
Wow Peter, $300 is an incredible price! Nice work. I know exactly what you mean about the action, I have a hard time setting the Anthem down myself. As a matter of fact, I'm flicking it as I type this. Thanks for watching.

They seem to be pretty even in all the important areas, I think it just boils down to which one you like the best… I just bought a bench made anthem and I’m very pleased with it and I’m sure if I bought the Sebenza I would be very pleased with that one also… Don’t think you can go wrong with either one. Easy answer, get both...lol

I agree James, both are solid choices, can't go wrong with either. Especially since they are so close in price, preference will be the deciding factor. You're right, just eliminate the frustrating decision process and get both. Thanks for watching.

The Anthem lock is stronger, hands down and the mechanism to disengage takes your fingers out of the path of the blade. Anthem lock is stronger and safer.

I think consistency would need to be taken into consideration. Benchmade is infamous for having uneven grinds to their blades. Price is too close in my opinion to use as a measurement. 20 bucks is so small when comparing 400 plus knives that I don't think if all else were equal and they were beside each other at a store one could justify it as a deciding factor...well this one is 5 dollars or 20 dollars less so I picked it. If they were 30 and 50 dollar knives then yes, but I think for price to be a consideration there should be at least a 15% difference. I agree the sebenza is the better choice also but being a sebenza nut and having around 25 of them and no anthems I'm a bit biased. I will say the anthem has the smoothest action of all the benchmade I've handled, but I didn't feel their price point was a good value for this particular model. If they sold it for 275 I would say to get an anthem all day long. Great video, thank you

My issue with your scoring method is that it almost seems like you’re trying to give the sebenza a fighting chance with a couple of the categories. Assembly/Disassembly, life time warranties and other versions have nothing to do with the knife and only the company. That being said, Anthem is the winner.

Thank you for making this video, it was something I have been curious about having just bought a sebenza (tanto) but also having looked at the Anthem months ago. I appreciated seeing the two knives side by side, however I think some of the comparisons were overly simplified. For example: the comparison of S35VN to 20CV warrants some discussion since individual manufacturer's heat treatment accounts for so much of the material behaviors. Also, without actually using the knives I think the durability point was moot. I think more attention could be put to the cutting surfaces and the blade profiles since we buy knives to cut with.
@TheKnifeBeater
@TheKnifeBeater 5 лет назад
You bet Nic. I did actually use the knives, I always do before I make a video. I try to simplify the info I'm conveying without boring you guys to death. Sorry, if it was a little too simple for you. You're right there is a lot more to the steel than just the type. In this video I was specifically speaking about the steel in it's relation to the price. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching.

Thanks J. Great job! Both fantastic knives, for sure. And you sure proved that here. : - ) I have never yet held an Anthem. Something I plan to resolve in 2019. I have had a few Chris Reeve knives though. Most of them Sebenza 21's. I'm down to just one of those now. The one I decide to keep, was the plain, worker looking knife. Like you have here. I'll always keep this one. I have to think though, that I'd probably like the Anthem better. Fidget factor is important to me. And I'm certainly not head-over-heels for the Sebenza 21. Though I do realize, that it is of the highest quality, and a benchmark, of the frame-lock portion of the knife industry.
@TheKnifeBeater
@TheKnifeBeater 5 лет назад
I hear ya Steve, I'm not really a Sebenza fanboy either, but I do appreciate it's overall design and the precise engineering. It took me a little bit to accept the fact that the Sebenza is not a fidget kinda knife, it was a tough transition.

Love the video. I have the sebenza and absolutely love it. Im going to get the anthem in the near future. I’ve got plenty of Benchmade’s and although the axis lock is tried and true, I’ve had issues with the omega springs breaking. I love what they did with the spring/piston system if the anthem. I just don’t know if I could choose just one. They both have strengths and weaknesses, not the least of which is blade steel. I wish to hell crk would have used 20cv, but it’s a knife designed for ease of user maintenance. I suppose s35vn is easier to sharpen than 20cv. After a all said and done, I guess I gotta have both.

Thank you Michael. I feel the same as you towards the Sebenza's blade steel, especially considering the price tag, but I guess you do get a lot in return for your money. I love Benchmade's, but I'm always concerned about the omega springs wearing out. Could you imagine if every Benchmade had the same AXIS as the Anthem? I'd be one happy guy, without a care in the world. You're right, too tough of a choice to make, best to have both.

It sounds like you're experiencing some lock stick James. There are 2 things you could try before contacting CRK. 1. Try disassembling and putting it back together. 2. While the blade is closed take a pencil and color in that area on the blade where the lock bar makes contact with the blade. Hope this helps. No biggie about the spelling, I know what you meant. I like bearings on some knives and washers on others. I agree, one is not necessarily better than the other. I get what you're saying James and I agree, a knife needs to feel good in your hand and cut stuff. Things like the blade steel, handle material, and the action are all just icing on the cake. If I like a knife enough, I'll carry it regardless the steel type (8CR is about the lowest I go). You're right, the Anthem is way more fun to carry. If I need a knife for some harder use type tasks, I'm reaching for the Sebenza. Thanks for watching James.

The ONLY reason I would prefer the Sabenza is, cause of the way superior locking system. I use knives for their intended purpose, not for decorating my shelves. I almost lost a finger because of a Axis lock failure. Now it's Tri-Ad lock or Frame Lock for me.

I'm lucky enough to have both. The anthem is my #1 Benchmade by far! It's so smooth and makes the best sounds. It's centered and came with a good grind. I was lucky, some are not. I don't care about the gun thing at all, they have a great warranty. However, my lefty knife art 21 is my best friend. I have a lefty insingo and lefty regular I got before the carbon fiber. If I had to do it, I would cut all my knives down the the knife art 21, protech magic 2 and the anthem. I could live without all the other zt, spyderco, and other BM knives. Isn't it nice being so spoiled we can nitpick between such fantastic knives!!!! OBVIOUS ANSWER THAT'S ALWAYS RIGHT... BUY BOTH! Oh ya, they don't have titanium hardware. From the Reeve website. I will take the BM, Still think CRKs are over priced. Other knives out there every bit as good as a CRK at a better price / value. CRKs need to update. Better steels out there. The company is too conservative. Won't try anything new. Seen a flipper from CRK yet?

Very true, there are some steels that may have better performance. I'm sure that since Chris Reeve created S35VN, he might be more than a little biased, but I hear what you're saying though. I think since they focus on quality, keeping things scaled down works best for them. I know what you mean, I love Benchmade too. Thanks for watching.

You forgot the "Which Company Supports Gun Grabbing Politicians" category, which in my book cancels out all other categories. So unless I find out something different in the future, the Sebenza 21 is/was the clear winner right from the start. US Knife companies that support gun grabbing politicians in my country do not get my support.

There is nothing comparable except that they are both folding knives ! The suckbenza is way way over priced heavy blocky basic production cnc machine clone The 781 is much lighter thinner and only way over priced cnc machine production clone and neither is worther more the $50.00 -$100.00 ! More like $50.00 ! I guess they do have stupid over priced for no reason! but greed in common !
