Bias acknowledgement: I attended Georgia Southern, UGA, and NCSU. I'm currently employed by App State. Acknowledging biases if they exist. Tier 1 (Perennial National Champion Contenders): UGA, Texas Tier 2 (Probably Perennial National Champion Contenders but need more data): Alabama Tier 3 (Good enough to win a Natty, but I have doubts about the program longterm): Tennessee, Ole Miss Tier 4 (Couple year wonder): Mizzou Tier 5 (Should be better, but have underachieved a lot lately): OU, LSU, Tamu Tier 6 (Tier 5 but questionable HC): Auburn, UF Tier 7 (Will be good every now and then, but will never win a natty with current coaches/administration): Arkansas, SCar, Kentucky, Miss State Tier 8 (Vandy): Vandy Also NCSU is NOT a good team.
@@be-you-tifulexpressionspod8598 Their schedule allowed for them to have a good couple years beyond last year. Easiest schedule in the SEC and not that close.
SEC pretty much breaks down into 3 tiers every year, Elite- Bama, Georgia, Texas (normally 2 to 3 teams) Will do decent depending on how easy their in conference schedule is (because their out of conference is probably cupcakes) - Tennessee, Missouri, Ole Miss, Florida, Arkansas, S Carolina, Auburn, Kentucky, LSU, T A&M, Oklahoma In it for another sport besides football- Vandy
Great video! I’m not enough of an SEC fan to judge the margins here. I’ll share on the Blue White Illustrated forum in the hopes that you’ll do a Big Ten video. Thanks again!
As a Georgia fan, this list seems pretty valid to me. We're pretty nervous about the Texas game - they're GOOD. As good as us. It might be a coin flip. It could end our regular season streak (41 games and counting, likely to be 42 unless something very odd happens in Kentucky this weekend.) We're a lot more confident about having a chance to finally take out Alabama this year.
As a Texas fan, feeling much the same over here. I personally can’t wait for the Georgia game. Y’all are stacked and well coached. I’m hoping for a banger. Should be fun!
I get that yall don’t like Weigman but yall are focusing on his pass yds in those 4 games but ignoring all other important stats and context. Auburn 2022: 14/36, 121 yds, 1 TD, 0 INTs - Neither team played or coached the game well. This was his 2nd start of his career. LSU 2022: 12/18, 155 yds, 2 TDs, 0 INTs - Devon Achane Legacy game. Weigman made some great throws and played well. Auburn 2023: 8/14, 70 yds, 0 TDs, 0 INTs - He didn’t have a great start to the game but he was hurt before half time, why is this game even included in the conversation? Notre Dame 2024: 12/30, 100 yds, 0 TDs, 2 INTs - Had a good first drive then went straight down hill. 1st game where he had a bad performance that was fully on himself.
Alabama is still first in the 24/7 composite roster talent ranking. Followed by Georgia and Ohio State. This does not take into account transfers and being ranked wrong, high or lower than where they should be. And a bunch of people still pretend like stars don't matter. But it does. It isn't every thing, I didn't say it is. But it matters. And Texas is 4th. They are very talented. Edit: I made my comment at the title before listening. I will use Ohio State as an example on the composite talent index. CJ Hicks is 5 star talent, but clearly not that good. He seems athletic enough to be a potent pass rusher, but when asked specifically, Day said they need him to be a LB. So, Alabama is in fact really talented.
Alabama is really talented, but the composite also does not taken into the class that each player is in. A 5 star freshman and a 5 star Junior who is going to be a first round pick is weighted the same. The freshman projects to be that good in 2 years but isn’t there yet. That’s why I think this particular Alabama team isn’t as talented as years past because the ratings are there but it’s a lot of freshman/sophomores. There is only 1 or 2 maybe NFL 1st rounders (this year) on the roster
You are confusing player ratings with roster talent, certainly recruiting rankings have some predictive power in this area, but high recruiting rankings do not mean you are necessarily more talented.
Actually I have to disagree with you on Auburn and the qb change up situation. The offensive line play isnt the best but it was serviceable but Cal. Thorne just made his line look bad by holding onto the ball for way too long. Aaron Murray did a really good breakdown of his play during the Cal game
I think MIGHT BE needs to be in front of every tier. We’ve only played 2 games. We KNOW very little right now. Not that I disagree, I just am waiting on a few of these teams. Remember how ELITE Notre Dame was after week one??
Michigan was a shell and was very overrated. Not to mention their defensive play calls could have been dissected by a toddler. Texas is very good, but we will see about elite
Lol you’re assuming Arkansas will win a game? Have you not learned your lesson yet? Never underestimate our ability to lose winnable games. I guarantee you we will lose at least one of those games. Maybe even both. It’s just what we do.
@@2xxNorMacKxx2 I know I know 😂 just being optimistic here. At some point our bad luck has to run out though. Maybe they got all of the mistakes out the way in the okst game & we end up having a decent year. Maybe. Idk . I’ll come to this comment in a couple weeks .
@@notmyrealname5162Just saying making the championship game may not = great coaching. He was great in the Jr league. He did good his short time at Wash. I'm just not 100% buying in that he's a great Bama coach yet. We've seen "great" coaches come into the SEC and flop.
What are you talking about AL turning corner 2020 AL beats FL for a SEC championship 2021 AL beats GA for a SEC championship 2022 AL beats GA for a SEC championship
@jdtheguitartist no he said basically he has been waiting the last 3 or 4 years for Alabama to turn the corner and the video is talking about wich team is elite in the SEC. Winning 3 out of 4 SEC championship is pretty good. So yup that's what I was talking about.
One of these guys is so SEC bias he cant keep a str8 argument. He talks about how the polls have Texas A&M unranked after losing close to ND but also rank NIU for beating ND and keeping ND ahead of both. Texas A&M who lost at home and supposedly has top 10 talent composite. Ok but he tries to down play Miami smoking UF in the swamp and making them look like Vandy. Oh no thats just UF being terrible so not that impressive. UF who has a talent composite thats supposedly better than Miami as per 247. Then he talks up Tennessee, who did smoke NC St, who's talent composite is, check notes #40 in the country. Btw Miami has a better talent composite than Tennessee. I dont care if these guys think Miami blows, they are SEC homers and alot of things they say are true but atleast be fair in your arguments bruh. More people than SEC homers watch your channel. UF has NFL talent on their team, more than NC St and probably Tennessee. And one big thing, i would take Cam Ward over every single QB in the SEC and for that matter in the country. Miami lost every game close last year because of TVD throwing picks under zero pressure. U can look at the roster changes Cristobal is already making, its not just the talent, the roster is built like the top SEC teams from a size stand point and u can compare it to when he got there to now. Oh and btw, there are 4 teams from a overall roster standpoint in CFB. Bama, UGA, Texas and Ohio St. Then there is group behind that, including Penn St, Oregon, USC, Mizzou, Clemson, Tennessee, Miami etc. I will take the canes over all these teams and Ohio and Bama because of the QB. UGA and Texas are clear imo.
@@CollegeFootballNerds they did not when you made this video. Nice circle back. All am saying its not hard to dig deeper into other teams roster. And sorry Miami could have picked the score on opening day.
Using the NMSU game as evidence Thorne was bad, isn't good evidence. Obviously there are other data points that prove that, but weirdly that wasn't one of them. The reason Auburn lost that game was defense and run game. Auburn couldn't get the run game going and stalled drives because of it. Defense couldn't get off the field resulting in fewer possessions. Weirdly, Thorne only threw 4 incompletions and turned the ball over 0 times, so he wasn't the reason for the loss.
Mizzou shouldn’t be moved down at all!? What is the host smoking? They got all the weapons, a great defense and went 11-2 last year while bringing back the 2nd most production in the conference. Dude is just saying shit because he isn’t used to Mizzou being this good. How could they be moved down to good with fatal flaws when they have literally no flaws yet? 😂
@@CollegeFootballNerds my man. Mizzou and Ohio State were both out 3 starters. 🤣 Mizzou was missing Ty’ron Hopper who was a Butkus finalist and 3rd round pick , Ennis Rakestraw who was drafted early 2nd round pick and Chad Bailey who came into the year as by far the highest graded linebacker. Ohio StYe was without McCord who got chased away to Syracuse, Marvin Harrison which is talented as hell but had a sad NFL debut and one other that is skipping my mind. They had the 8th hardest schedule in the country last year. The literal country. Ole Miss hadn’t played nobody. Mizzou is ahead of Ole Miss in the 24/7 composite rankings and I don’t see you questioning them? Mizzou played Georgia to the wire while the Rebels got blown out and Mizzou returns more production. Your argument is so flawed.
Vandy is 2-0 is Futbol is dead .... guys what is this ? Miss. State is in rebuild and i can agree but Vandy is flatout wrong. Btw Give Mizzou or Ole Miss the Miss. State schedule and they win 6 games max.
Love you guys but I can’t agree OU has a good defense. They were not good last year just serviceable and have not played even a bowl team yet this year. After Tulane and TN we can evaluate their defense. “OU has a good defense” has become a meme. The truth is we just don’t know. I mean they have played some horrid teams this year and last year they had a historically bad schedule so they looked decent. OU is a program in slow decline. It can change but it isn’t right now.
SEC Rankings TITLE CONTENDERS Georgia Alabama PLAYOFF CONTENDERS Texas Ole Miss Tennessee Missouri LSU GOOD, NOT GREAT Vanderbilt Texas A&M Florida Oklahoma MEDIOCRE AT BEST Arkansas Auburn South Carolina Mississippi State Kentucky
I'm just here cause I want a B1G one to see where Josh puts penn state 😂. Alabama has injuries he is understanding and can forgive sloppy play. Penn state loses their best Secondary defender and one of the best safety's in the country he's top 3 I believe and it's just sloppy play. Blah blah blah. Even though Second half psu dominated 14-3 held them under 100 yards of O. That field goal came with seconds left to make it 34-27. Let's keep the same energy for other teams. I could of sworn Josh said Seocndary can change pretty significantly if a star DB goes down. 🤭 What's up Daniel & Josh
@@adamdixon5240 He said they have fatal flaws but they don’t. My point was he knows nothing about Mizzou or the program that they’re building. He going off what Mizzou was in the past. They are not on Georgia or even Bama level of depth, but they are close. We had 4 guys drafted off the defense alone last year and haven’t skipped a beat
I don’t understand the Texas hype. They played co state and a Michigan team that shouldn’t be ranked in the top 30… they’ve played nobody. Michigan will finish outside the top 30 and win maybe 6 games… co state won’t win more than 6-7 games. Who have they played that says they’re elite… when they play Georgia then make your decision. If they win that game go ahead and lock ewers in for heisman and then say they’re elite.. but until they actually do something I’ll stay grounded
Nobody cares what you think. That Michigan team still has draft picks on defense. Who has Georgia played? A Clemson team that can't get out of their own way because of their HC
@@woodcrest4655 Texas hasn’t beaten anybody. I’m not hating at all…That Michigan team lost 90 percent of its starters and most of the coaches. It’s not the same team as much as you’d like it to be: after texas plays Georgia (the number 1 team in the country) we will see… I for one hope they win it. Tired of Georgia being basically untouchable
@@johnrion3232 dude Michigan had 13 players drafted, Texas had 11 drafted. I don’t wanna hear those excuses. Great programs don’t rebuild, they reload and that’s what Texas just did. Georgia is far from untouchable, they’ve benefited from playing in the SEC East under Kirby Smart for the past 8 years but now that there’s no divisions they actually have to play a very challenging schedule
Michigan clutching onto pearls. Doesn’t matter if they have the best corner in the country if the rest are mid. And they are. Texas beat them straight up and by scheme. Michigan’s defense was horrendous
