Daniel and Josh take a deep dive into college football analytics, with detailed previews of the biggest games and weekly recaps of Saturday's action. The Nerds focus on giving the most honest takes possible, using computer modeling and hard data, to give you an objective look at the college football landscape.
I also thought the Georgia secondary was going to be an issue, but they came to play. Carson Beck needs to clean up the INT's if Georgia wants to go deep into the playoffs. GO DAWGS!
I'd like to see the accuracy of these picks. These guys have to be well below 50%. The football takes are pretty bad, but I guess that is why people like to watch.
Georgia 31 Texas 27 I agree that the Texas win at Michigan doesn't mean anything - Georgia will be fighting to stay relevant for the CFP and get the win.
So I assumed a show called “college football nerds” was going to be an analytical breakdown. What I heard was a numbers breakdown that favors Texas heavily and then two guys saying their gut tells them Georgia will win based off reputation. Georgia has not been a hard nosed running team in three years. They are a pass first offense since Bennet’s last year but you attribute them to be a run first, hard nosed, grind it out team and call that their strength. I expect that take from ESPN.
I think the Tennessee O breakdown is spot on. Sampson is great, but rushing game is average. Nico can pick you apart, but hasn’t had time to. What’s the common denominator there? Poor O line play
Hear me clear... WE WIN IFFF Tim Smith channels his inner Quinnen Williams which izzz possible AnnnD LT Overton summons ghost of Keith McCants!!! Malachi needs 2B Jeremiah Castille...and we need to run 28Power tosss primarily boundary side but run Jammm till da cigarz GETLIT🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 ohhh and we got 2TEs that can WIN over middle...ROLLLL TIIIDE
MIlroe's recurring low-IQ play can strike at any moment, effectively negate momentum, kill team morale, and override the on-field gains produced by his phenomenal athleticism: that is the proverbial Bama-elephant in the room; that is the terrifying realization: and that is why you hold your breath throughout the game, if you are Bama fan.
I wouldn't be so quick to assume Bama is scoring 30 points on the road in Neyland. Not saying they aren't capable, but I wouldn't be overly confident in it happening considering Tennessee hasn't even given up 20 points yet in a single game.
What is Georgia's blitz rate, and how does it compare to the rest of the top 25 or SEC? Because I feel like the key in this game for Georgia will be to blitz early and often during the game, which will undoubtedly help the secondary with not giving up the big chunk plays?
I was shocked to see Arkansas is 8th in total offense. I was hoping to see Tennessee hadn’t played a functioning offense, and the other teams they have played are way down the total offense rankings, yet 8th nationally in total yards by Arkansas was better than I expected. I realize that doesn’t tell the whole story but was surprised. Hope hogs beat LSU!
Here's how I look at it: You take Texas to cover, or you take the over. Either Texas is who they look like and win by double digits, or they're not and this game is a shootout. If the Texas offense is real, this Georgia defense isn't going to stop them. If the Texas pass rush is real, Beck is going to have a bad day. Big game Quinn is a real thing, and the weapons are there, so the question is the Texas pass rush/coverage. If that's the case, Beck is more than capable of putting up big numbers. If the Texas defense is shutting down the Georgia offense, Sark will be more about eating clock than scoring. So your not as likely to get a Texas cover and an over. That's also why I don't see a Georgia cover and an under. Personally, I'll take the Texas cover at 34-20.
I think these are fair score predictions. UGA fans and UGA haters alike are both being a bit dramatic. Yes, Georgia has taken a step back relative to assured dominance, but that doesn’t mean they’ll be easy to beat. This will without a doubt be a one possession game for at least most of the game, unless someone pulls away late
As an outsider looking in, the SEC is much more interesting when Tennessee is good. Now adding a tough Texas team as well is making this the best SEC season for me in the last 15 years or so. This game and Georgia v Texas is great for the game.
I expect the intitled millionaires to care about preperation this week. A lot of people dont understand ,you can tell if a teams minds were focused during game prep during the week.
What Bama also ran into in that 22 game wqs BoB wanting to pass it instead of running, getting 1 yard, making a fg easier and making sure there was no time left on the clock
As much as it pains me to say it, the UGA game showed what we're potentially capable of when we really want to be while the last two weeks showed us who we actually are most of the time this season. I think we will come to fight but i gotta give the edge to TN at home on this one. 26-20. I hope my prediction is wrong but that just feels like the kind of game it's going to be.
Guys, thanks for the breakdown! I listened to this right when it came out on podcast and was confused by the model. Why did you say the model predicts Bama 26.2 - TN 25.5? On the website it said 13.7 to 19.2 in favor of UT. I thought there might have been a data refresh issue so I checked the next day and it still said that. But I just checked tonight and it now says 26.2-26.1 in favor of Bama. What's happening when we see those changes?
" entire career" means his first year as a starter with an OC who got fired before the end of the season...lmao. yea, the kid is substantially better this year...
