"Currently ladies and gentlemen, we are watching Alabama's entire 2nd string go against Vandy's first string. Think Alabama's third and possibly fourth get any action?"
this theme song is dedicated to the legendary Verne Lundquist who called every SEC game on CBS for nearly 20 years god bless The Home Depot SEC on CBS and thank you Verne for the memories
POV: it's a sunny, Saturday afternoon, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's the Iron Bowl. You're an Auburn fan. You have your friends and family over, a mix of Auburn and Bama fans. You're having wings, burgers, beers, and maybe some BBQ for lunch. You're nervous because both teams are ranked in the top 10. You discuss the game and maybe talk smack to your Bama fan buddies. When 2:30 rolls around, you're ready for some football. You hear this song. Nothing like it.
Or even better: you’re an Auburn fan, Alabama is #1 again, Auburn isn’t in the top 10, but you know they’re bound to make this the game of the year AGAIN
CBS still has a deal with Mountain West so this theme won’t completely go away you’ll just hear it less. (Unless you have CBS Sports Network which you would still hear this theme every week.)
“And we welcome all of you to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on the campus of Ole Miss. Its Alabama and Ole Miss, the SEC on CBS. The Alabama Crimson Tide, 4-0. The Rebels of Ole Miss, likewise, undefeated. This is a PIVOTAL early season match up.”
LSU V Kentucky 2007. Greatest game I’ve ever seen in person. And when this them plays, I get emotional. Which is somewhat strange cause I was actually at the stadium.
This is the no. 1 theme song in sports right now. Hearing this music really gets you hyped up for the weeks best college football games. And the announcers are the best in the business. Brent Musburger, JIm Nantz, Sean McDonough, Verne Lundquist and now Brad Nessler. It's a college football tradition that will live on forever.
@luigi_boy2559 I'm going to miss hearing that iconic theme at 3:30pm Saturday afternoons in the fall before the SEC on CBS with match-ups like Tennessee vs Alabama the Iron Bowl SEC championship game Georgia vs Florida aka the world's largest outdoor cocktail party
Makes me legit emotional to think this won’t be the “Sound of the SEC” starting in 2024. When I was just a little boy I would be with my Granddaddy to watch UGA on CBS or whoever played in that game on the Saturday. Precious memories.
Fun Fact: This was made originally for Super Bowl XXI and was intended to be the NFL on CBS theme, but they reused it for College Football games and the rest is history
That's such an insane original use. I can't hear this song without thinking of a college marching band. NFL doesn't have that so it would feel out of place. Good thing they repurposed it
And in that same telecast, CBS ran out of time to debut another song called "One Shining Moment". It would eventually be used for the NCAA basketball tournament with the line changed from "the ball is kicked" to the "ball is tipped".
Always think of UGA-UF and the SEC Championship when I hear this. So sad to see it go, but at least it goes out with the two best programs in Atlanta. Such is business. Go Dawgs!!!
0:44 “and with that, the Home Depot SEC on CBS brings us to Gainesville, Florida. On a hot, October day and a top 10 matchup here in the Swamp for the first time in 7 years. No. 7 Auburn against the No. 10 Gators of Florida.”
However this opens the door for CBS to get the Pac 12 or the Big 12 from Fox since Fox is looking to save money to renew the NFL deal which is up for bidding next year by only broadcasting two college football conferences the Big 10 and the Mountain West from the four they currently have when you include the Pac 12 and Big 12. Out of the two, I think will CBS most likely get the Pac 12 in an exclusive deal because ESPN won't be able to broadcast Pac 12 games along with the exclusive deals they have with the SEC and ACC along with showing games the Big 10 and the Big 12.
Here’s Tua stepping back, loads up, looks long, throws, end zone TOUCHDOWN ALABAMA! Davonte Smith TOUCHDOWN ALABAMA! And the crimson tide has once again ascended to the top of the college football mountain (2nd & 26)
"Sims...deep...Hail Mary...Not answered!...intercepted...Ohio State's gonna win it...The dream continues for the Buckeyes....The nightmare starts for number 1 Alabama, they are no more."
“It’s the #1 Georgia Bulldogs Vs. the #2 Alabama Crimson Tide an SEC championship showdown! “ “High everyone I am Brad Nessler with my partner Gary Danielson and we just ate Taco Bell.” 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮
This brings back mementoes of me going over for Saturday lunch at grandpas and watching football on a bright sunny day and then throwing the ball outside at halftime
Welcome to a beautiful day at the swamp where the number 8th ranked gators take on 6th ranked auburn tigers. I'm Brent Nessler with my partner Gary Daniels.
I can’t believe there will come a day where I will head this for the last time. So saddening. This is the best sports theme song I’ve ever heard. I’m writing this for my high school marching band to play in the stands before games so hopefully I can still experience the amazing feeling of hearing this song before a game
I will miss the SEC on CBS, but I absolutely think the Big 10 will do a great job of filling the void, as it's a great football conference as well, but man so many great memories of the SEC on CBS.
Coming from an Ohio state fan. Every time I hear this I think of those Alabama pompoms flying back and forth. I hope that they give it back to the sec soon
Hopefully in the future we hear Brad Nessler say :for the first time on cbs we welcome you to Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee Florida where on this Labor Day Sunday one of college footballs blue bloods begins a new with the Seminoles of Florida States makes big ten debut against the Buckeyes of Ohio State.
Ah man this brings back memories of last season when my tigers won the championship against Clemson I was so happy and didn't expect some of their games to be won. Geaux Tigers
*HELLO SEC BROTHERS AND SISTERS TODAY SEPTEMBER 26 2020 IS THE DAY WE WHERE ALL HOPING FOR MAY YOUR TEAM WIN AND BEST LUCK THIS YEAR.GO SOUTH EASTERN CONFERENCE*
might be the last time we might hear this song on TV… certainly the last time it’ll be associated w/ the SEC. This tune so legendary and synonymous w/ the SEC that the possibility of it not being used anymore because they’re no longer broadcasting the major SEC games anymore seems appropriate... Legendary Tune that only makes you think of one conference and one conference only. RIP SEC on CBS
You said it Jason. The best game in the country, as The Home Depot SEC on CBS brings us to TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville for the annual get-together between the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs. Both teams ranked in the top 10.
