Top knowledgeable plumber, great content! My way of doing a bath is find out the finished floor height work out the height of the bath panel screw batons round so the top of the baton wants to be the height of your bath panel then just lower the legs to the floor 9/10 it is 100% spot on. A tip from experience is make sure your baton is small enough it dosent get in the way of the bath tap nuts! And if it’s a timber floor put supports underneath the bath legs running the opposite way to the joist to spread the load Keep up the good work mate

A lot of topics covered in this video.@6:30 Fantastic little tutorial on composite valves.@ 5:34Never fully got my head round using gate valves on coil to "throttle" hot water ,not quite sure whether it should be on coil flow or return and how you tie this in with overall balancing of the system.Thanks for all your knowledge and time.
@PlumbLikeTom
@PlumbLikeTom 2 года назад
Hi mate, I was always taught to put a balance valve on the primary return to help ease with the balancing of the system. It allows you to regulate the flow of water around the coil a bit like what you use a lockshiled valve for on the return from a radiator. Water will always take the path of least resistance and sometimes the coil will steal heat from the radiator circuit if not correctly balanced. Some systems can be set up as hot water priority, so when calling the hot water will recover more quickly but this system will most likely be just left on 24hrs as hot water demand will be constant, hope this helps explain a little better, any more questions please ask

Nice work there,I see a lot of people putting trvs on towel rails upside down and always wondered if they ever close,I usually don't bother or put straight through ones on.
@PlumbLikeTom
@PlumbLikeTom 2 года назад
Hi mate, its sometimes a tricky one to know what to do for the best, customers often request TRV's on towel rails only to realise they actually need the TRV not to turn off as they need the room hotter. Towel rails are only OK at heating the room but once they get crammed full of towels it tends to block a lot of the heat output. Most modern bathroom are to small to put additional heating in. With regards to your question I wouldn't normally put a TRV on a towel rail unless specifically asked to but I think it should be Ok in the upside position I have installed it in.

Nice job with a bath , I can give you another tip , obviously cost you a bit of time , but if you like a bit of chippy job , you can always extend ply wood on side of the bath where the legs go and slide underneath a pre cut according to a size floor board and screw the screws with no worries and it helps, that’s a extra solid support on top of that it helps extra plywood sticking out for a bath panels . Obviously that’s how we been thought , old school stuff 😅 .

i hate those baths.. and if ever we wuz fittin thoase up stairs we always recommended three quarter ply at least . but on one occasion i rem .. the customer didnt want to do this and we fitted bath and later that week got a call .from same job. problem with bath . We hadent met man of houlse but he was a big guy . about eithteen stone i recon and wen he got in bath the center started down ward . he got out just in time i recon . anywayse . we slotted a piece of ply under the bath and for good measure got a few four inch solid concrete blockes in there with nice wooden spacers under the middle of bath job done no more sinkin feelin .

There not the best baths in the world, this one has been OK since I fitted it, well I haven't been back yet anyway, like you say 3/4 ply is a good way of doing them, thanks for the support as always mate

Great video. Glad you mentioned about the combination valve. Some installers still pipe these up wrong. We had a gas water heater installed in my launderette, by a g3 and gas safe installer. He teed the expansion vessel into the balanced cold feed. One week later the bottom of the water heater cracked due to no expansion. 400litres of 60 degree water all over the floor. Warranty void on water heater as not installed correctly!

To be honest I think some colleges teach it wrong, the lad who just started with me showed me a picture of his assessment and it was piped up onto the balanced feed, another apprentice was also shown to pipe it like this. If the people doing the courses can't get it right, there is honestly no hope for the industry, begs the question why bother sitting the exam every 5 years when they tell you how to do it wrong anyway. Thanks for watching mate, it is appreciated
