I agree Sean that It's Over is the strongest song on the album. I remember as a then young KISS fan being forever angry that they got no love from the mainstream or radio. KISS fans were part of like a secret club, and those who bashed us just didn't know any better. Point being, It's Over could have been a huge hit if it got any radio play, but was just another well kept secret that only us KISS fans got to enjoy. Love your content. Thanks for bringing back the memories!!!
I purchased this album when it was released. I listened to it a few times. Like you Sean , I like the song Insane . But me , I just couldn't find anything else to like. Great , detailed Video. Hope you're doing well. 🎸🎸🎸
Excellent review, Sean. I know it’s pretty much a given that you’ll review Trouble Walkin, but I really hope that someday soon you’ll review Anomaly. It’s probably my favorite Frehley album because it feels personal. And I really like the album cover artwork.
Late 80's was a strange time to get onboard the Kiss train.. no makeup, middling sales, definitely not what most of my teenage friends were listening to. Even in rock/ metal circles, stuff like Kiss, Frehley's Comet & Vinnie Vincent Invasion was considered very small time & peripheral compared to bands like Guns'n'Roses', Motley Crue & Skid Row.
I was disappointed by this album. I loved the debut and this just didn't quite work. Fallen angel is my favourite, just a chorus for days! I can now appreciate this album more than at the time and do like it now. I will always go for frehleys comet and trouble walkin when I want my 80s ace fix.
88 was a meh year for KISS and its spin offs. Vinnie had All Systems Go, Ace had Second Sighting, and KISS had Smashes Thrashes. Each album had one great song or two but loads of fillers. Insane is my favorite but It's Over Now is currently on my car ride mix, so it definitely survived the test of time. This album struggled because its missing Anton's signature sound. Jamie just couldn't fill his shoes...not even in the slightest. Many others sounded like they just phoned it in. No wonder the record company gave Ace an ultimatum for his next album which he delivered in spades.
Remember in 88 when it came out. Saw the video for Insane and thinking it would be as good as the first bought it. Still love Insane a few others are ok but big drop off from the first one.
Rock DJ Eddie Trunk who signed Ace to Megaforce records has stated many times the reason why second sighting was essentially a Tod record was in fact because of Ace's alcohol and drug problems. He was a mess in this time period. Ace has admitted it himself. Second Sighting is a good record. "It's over now" is a great tune. Also, the reason they didn't bring back Eddie Kramer to produce was due to a limited budget for the album. They also wanted to have the touring drummer play on the album to keep the lineup consistent. That's why Anton Fig isn't on the album. It was nothing personal as Anton and Ace have been good friends for decades.
It was totally a great time to be a kiss fan! Ace was on headbangers ball all the time, being a guest VJ! I personally dig this album a lot! The Tod material is top notch, never understood the hate! Tod is a phenomenal musician and even better person! I’d give this album 3.5 stars, I agree Eddie needed to be producing! Great review!
Could you imagine YOU being a legendary guitar player from a WORLD RENOWNED ROCK BRAND and having some kid like you posting "reviews" on his RU-vid channel.
Ive seen a few of your reviews and seriously you give far too much total crap a pass mark. That means your reviews are useless. Dont be scared to offend a song.
