This swarm went in the box on March 18. Can you see the face in the swarm? I transferred them to a ten frame hive on March 21. One thing to always remember is to make sure a caged queen is away from where you are working.

just a tip , you have hook on your smoker designed to hang it on the side of your box while your working your bees, i dont know how many times i see bee keepers sticking there smokers on the ground and every where else and have no idea where to put their smoker, might be worth trying it sometime hanging it on your box , its a lot easier to get at and safer.

I actually did notice the shape of a face pretty rad I must admit! I still admire people who handle bee's like they're little pets! I personally don't want to be no where near a hive it's scary thought of getting attacked by a swarm

I am use to the french cleat using the 45 degree angle, did you try that before you went with the one you are using now? Reason I am asking is I like the way you are using the cleat versus everyone else is using a platform etc. Your's is a much easier way to mount it to the tree.
@josephrawls
@josephrawls 3 года назад
These are cut on the 45 degree. I like this much better than using the old board hanger on a nail. Thanks.

A guy can't chance leaving them alone if there is a wasp nest inside they won't go in. I would probably vacuum them up and put them in a hive for a few days but now they're moved in I would hustle them home tonight

What do you mean by ‘drawing out’ ?
@josephrawls
@josephrawls 4 года назад
Drawing or drawn out is a beekeeping term meaning they are building comb.
@jamesrivis620
@jamesrivis620 4 года назад
I would never have guessed,lol.
@jamesrivis620
@jamesrivis620 4 года назад
Found this description... ‘Drawn combs = Full depth comb ready for brood or nectar with the cell walls drawn out by the bees, completing the comb as opposed to foundation that has not been worked by the bees and has no cell walls yet.’. This suggests to me that the bees begin at the bottom or back of the cell and ‘pull’ the sides outwards. Must be a very old term as it is hard for me to figure out why that term came about. FYI here is the link to an alphabetical list. www.bushfarms.com/beesterms.htm
