Leaked documents reveal a secret $40m deal between former Chelsea Football Club owner Roman Abramovich and two men dubbed Vladimir Putin’s “wallets”, a BBC investigation has found.
The billionaire Russian oligarch was sanctioned by the UK and EU council in 2022 for his proximity to the Russian leader and for allegedly profiting from the Kremlin regime.
Mr Abramovich has previously denied any financial relationship with Vladimir Putin, and he has not responded to requests for comment from the BBC.

"Putin's buddy" was arrested. He had to agree to hand 50% of his oil & gas businesses back to Russia & pay a fine equivalent to US$2Bn & leave Russia. If he returns, he'll be arrested. Abramovich is his friend. Imagine what he does to enemies who steal from Russia.

Im not doubting Roman may have dodgy aspects to his business dealings. The problem i have with authorities continuing to try and establish a current connection between Roman and Putins inner circle is that at the peace talks. He was poisoned and nearly died. Also after having his assets frozen, he went to Israel not Russia to rebuild himself. Putin definitely saw him as a ally at one point but i dont believe from what has been reported especially since this war and supposed peace talks, Putin counts on Ambramovich as a friend or ally of Russia.
