Today we explore a hidden, and some call secret ghost town in the middle of the Mojave National Preserve.
Two of the nice abandoned cabins are maintained by volunteers as public cabins anyone can use. We tried to not give out the name in order to protect them from scumbag vandals.

These cabins are kept stocked by volunteers of the national parks service. They’re kept up for avid hikers and backpackers who make their way through the area and are in need of a rest place. As well as wonderful rest areas they also serve as incredible testaments to this desert’s history.

One time (around '69) in Big Sur... on one of the mountains inland found chimney / fireplace shaped masonry structure... visited Sur again maybe 4-5 yrs ago, could not relocate. Resident said survival structure for hikers stuck there overnight. No supplies just structure...

Yeah, it was maintained by people who actually preserve the original structure for everybody to enjoy, you can go from cabin to cabin. There was a log book on the table, sign in. Most these cabins belong to the Nat'l Forest Service or BLM. These cabins are first come first serve, free to sleep in. Pack your trash out.

Death Valley has cabins like this as well. The fact is those who venture out typically respect these old places, the harder the place is to get to, the better shape they tend to be. These old treasures should be respected for future generations to share. Good find!

I like that you leave things as you found them and don't tell locations. Back in the 1960's we explored all over the desert, lots of mines and abandoned areas as a friend had a mining claim. We built a cabin (11 of us), eventually vandals found it and destroyed most everything except the mine shaft. It's sad that people think they have to destroy and shoot up everything. In any case your videos are very interesting for those of us that can't get out there anymore. By the way, that old truck engine looks like a flat head. We overhauled some of those back in the 60's.

They do in real life what I do in survival games like Ark. There's great satisfaction in helping people in need, even if they never thank you. To FREELY serve others is the most effective way of bringing meaning and fulfillment to one's life. Of course, when forced to serve others, that's when true hatred manifests.

I really respect that you guys don't share locations! I hate when people do this because the places always get wrecked. A few beautiful hidden spots around where I live were discovered by the cities hiking blog & they posted about it & then it went viral & now the campground is so destroyed they had to close the grounds for a year to help it recover from the damage of partying & heavy traffic. It's happened to a lot of places around here & nothing makes me more angry than people giving these 'hidden' locations away!! If someone wants to go bad enough, they should do their research to find the location!

Theres a lot of old abandon mining communities in the Mojave desert. Bickel camp is still mind to this day, there is an old mining community just beyond Bickle camp that still have a few cabins for folks to stay in who visit the area. Theres a few rules though (1) respect the place. (2) must leave a single item of non perishable(s) or something of use for the next person. (3) must write your experience about your stay in the notebook that is provided. You would think the cabins are abandoned but they're not.

This area is amazing. So much to explore. Lots of mines and lots of cabins. You can stay and go as you please and there are log books where you can check the last time someone’s been there. There should be a flag pole at many of these locations. You raise the flag to alert others in the area that the cabin is currently in use. There is a little area near there with a huge bus and a couple of old buildings that are very best down. Such a fun place. Could explore out there for years. The reason that vandals aren’t messing up the cabins is because they are in use a lot and frequented by the Mojave Reserve personnel.

As someone who also lives way out in the Mojave, I don't want to know how oppressively hot and boring summers in the Mojave would have been for a miners family. I wonder if they sent their families to cooler areas for the summers if they were able.

Saddens me when people vandalize these cabins that people put there heart and soul into. Simple people that just wanted to get away from mainstream city life. This cabins are a refuge for explorers and hikers. Take something, leave something it could be that bottle of water or can of beans that saves your life. And always as most know pack out what you pack in. Places like these are a treasure and I have personally can attest too being glad to have stumbled upon one during a week long outing. Please respect these places for others and always write the date you there.

I've stayed at a few of the old camps like this. If you read the signs on the walls, some say they are free to use, just don't destroy it for other explorers to use. One I stayed at actually asked for people to help improve the area and had a list of easy things people can do, and of supplies you could leave if possible. Fresh drinking water was #1..

You've gotta go to trotter road outside of Mojave. Then explore east retards Barstow. You'll find some cool places. And then just off the highway from for corners, heading towards Barstow theres a hill with some cement chimneys on them. It's an abandon military training facility from post WW2 for decontamination from fallout. The locals used to call it Christmas tree mountain. Goes three stories under ground.

This is a "free use" cabin. If he had looked in that notebook he would have seen entries from people who have visited/used the cabin. There was probably a flag inside that is meant to be hung outside to let others know the cabin is in use since these are on a first come, first use basis. The proper thing to do is to leave non-perishable food or other supplies for the next user.

Thank you very much for doing what you do, I enjoy seeing the desert!! Personally, I'm with You on keeping the secrecy of your locations. Places like this need to be protected. I had to edit my opinion with the fact that the horse shoes on the doors are mounted in the correct position. If they were mounted the other way around meaning pointed down, all the luck would run out. But they've held the luck in and maybe that's why this place has not been severely damaged by vandals. The plactic as you called them sheets were used in the printing of a news paper. The were placed on a roll cylinder and clipped down on the edges. As the paper sheet rolled through the machine the roller printed the pattern onto the paper. Those were used in color printing. Each color used its on plate. At up 3 to 6 plates and you would have a picture of a sale item, clothing mostly in that size on a half or full page. Keep going love your work. John in Springtown TX. 2018 Dec. 31.

Wow some of those cabins were in pretty good shape considering how old they are. Amazing to see that one stocked up with food. Thanks for the mention by the way. 😊 I look forward to watching you're next video. Take care EWU CREW. 😘👍✌

I appreciate that you respected the location. Its good that you dont show exact locations because there are some malevolent people that would encourage mayhem. It looks like people just left abruptly...GOD ONLY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED.... You are BRAVE, Much respect.

A friend of mine was living in Randsburg (old mining town) when one Saturday morning he heard voices in his living room, he got up to investigate and about four people were walking around looking at his stuff, he asked them "what the hell are you doing in my house ?" they responded "oh we thought we were in a Antique shop" --LOL so is life living out in the middle of nowhere.

THIS. I respect this so much. FInding places like this are like gems. Id love to take over an abandoned shed/cabin and rebuild it. My garage is exactly like this. Only filled with 50-60-70s stuff. If id ever come over to the states on holiday, this is what my holiday would look like. Love what you do.

This appears to be part of a set of cabins that are being upkept by a historical foundation- Geer and Rogers Cabins in Mojave Preserve. "The two cabins represent the first half of the 20th century mining era in the preserve. The cabins need cleaning, structural stabilization of roofs, and repairs of windows, floors, and doors. The preserve wants to make the historic structures safe for visitors to explore and experience the early mining era and to preserve the mining history for future generations."

Another awesome video and I think those white squares you were looking at lined against the wall as isulation may have been from a printing press for a newspaper? Like the templates they use to press the ink onto the paper, just my guess. Thanks again for the great video!

I think they were fixed to the rollers on a lithographic printing machine and were the masters for running the prints off.

Yes, I agree about the offset printing press (disposable) plates (or platens, they may have been called). And that old truck was an early '50's Dodge with a 6 cylinder flathead engine, an old design. You guys remind me of when I was a lot younger and loved exploring and taking crazy risks, but wow, what a rush! I am hooked on your videos, and love the curiosity and energy and enthusiasm for adventure you have; "let's go! " nicely sums it up.👍👌🤜🤛🤩

The engine in the old truck was an inline 6 cylinder...only six spark plugs...the old water heater was manufactured about 7 miles down the road from my area in TN. I used to work there, STATE STOVE WATER HEATERS. Back then, they did not hire many women, but as my luck would have it, they hired me...a female...on the assembly line...GREAT video! Took me to an entirely different state and to an entirely different time! Keep up the good work!

Your excitement is contagious! Lol The second building across the outdoor eating/seating area I believe was a stage! The door you opened was the back wall of the stage (where you found original props and a stool?) Guess work, but it makes sense. Love it! And love the vid length - just like *old* times! You two are the best!

Thank you for sharing. This is awesome, I’ve enjoyed it. I don’t need to know where it is. There is a hiking trail just outside of Tucson, which was beautiful up to a few years ago. A couple of years ago some went up and now the beautiful rocks has graffiti all over them destroying the whole atmosphere.

It's a shame that some individuals automatically assume a nearly abandoned ghost town out in the middle of nowhere and doesn't belong to them is theirs to destroy.
