Yes! The fact that many victims of con artists can be very intelligent doesn't matter. That's what I find so interesting--they are holding something that the victim desires (love, money, etc). But, they meet someone like this and just pony over everything including their last pennies.

The second some one tells me “listen what I’m about to tell you, you must keep this confidential, I’m a secrete agent” I’m think Oh this person has been smoking some Walter white special glass. I worked at a convenience store for a year and some change, I had a customer tell me they were CIA and were being hunted by terrorist. Turns out, the guy stays up for days at a time smoking meth.

@@SouthernOregonOrgani First time I used amphetamines I ended up being chased by the complete police force *and* the army, so I fled to the woods where I met a spy dressed totally in black with a black umbrella; it took me hours to find out that the only thing real was an encounter with a deer, everything else were trees and bushes morphed into spying soldiers, by my brain on speed (illusions). I can't really account for the spy dressed in black; that might have been the only full fledged hallucination.

In the TV series "Callan" the cover story was the agents worked in a junkyard. Maybe he borrowed elements of the story from there.

I think its precisely because the story was so far fetched, people believed him. That was an observation made by Hitler that the bigger the lie people will believe it, along with repeating it a thousand times.

There is the chronicles of narnia series and in the first movie one of the brothers, Edmund, falls for the snow queens lies. "I will make you a prince and let you eat sweets everyday." she tells him. In reality, after she succeeded in playing him, she treats him very badly. Well, long story short, his siblings rescue him and they defeat the evil queen. He and his siblings then live happily ever after. Well, flash forward a few movies and now the siblings and Edmund return to Narnia. They are now on a quest to defeat another evil bad guy. At first they search for Aslan, the good lion (God figure), but cannot find him, and they are very very much need help to defeat this evil. They cannot do it on their own. Its only then they come to a spiritual/magical cave where they see the evil queen frozen in ice mirror as a ghost. She can talk though because she is a ghost, and she asks them to free her and in exchange she will help them. Edmund, knowing her personally, knows this is a trick. However, the other siblings don't know her well and believe her speech, and almost do it. As this happens, you see her trying to convince them again and again by talking, and then she tries to take only one under her spell and convince that person. Edmund then takes matters into his own hands and shatters the ice mirror, so the evil queen can no longer talk to them. When it does, all the siblings (except Edmund) blink and shake their heads as if waking up from under a spell. They all look at him. "I know" is all Edmund says, as if to say "Yes, it's like that. Yes, she is the convincing. Yes, she is that evil." And sociopaths/psychopaths are like that. They talk big, but their words are illusions. Always.

I was watching one of your earlier videos about hoarding which reminded me of the murder of Becky Watts in England. Most of the coverage I've seen has just focused on the murder and glossed over the apparent hoarding going on in the home of the killer/s. I'd be really interested in your assessment of the personalty and mental health issues in that case.

They might. MI-5 would be analogous to FBI in the USA. I work in Media and have known people in MI-5. MI-6 is an entirely different animal. It would be unlikely for someone to tell you they were in MI-6.

They'd likely tell you that they're a civil servant (unless you're a close friend or family), but when they won't tell you what part of the civil service, it's pretty obvious they work in intelligence. It's even more obvious when they live in or around Cheltenham (a town in England) as it's famously home to GCHQ, one of the key intelligence organisations.

He was onto the lies from the first. He said his years looking after cattle had shown him that a very ill animal will move very differently from the healthy ones. He asked the guy faking terminal cancer, "Just how ill are you?" and the poor guy started shaking. I can't imagine how hard it must have been for Sarah to learn that she'd been living a lie for ten years. She must've needed "deprogramming" like when people get out of cults. I feel so bad for Jake and Sophie, not having seen their mother for seven years. Robert Freegard is truly evil, totally ruining people's lives and causing so much suffering just to bleed them dry - not just of money, but of confidence, human contact, their very identity, their ambitions and all their hopes and dreams. The money was one of his motives but he obviously got off on controlling people as well.

He screwed up - I would never have let my daughter go in that circumstance. I would check his identity there and then and call the police. If he objected it will expose them to danger I would say I am prepared to take that risk and make the call.

After pausing to write that I’m now listening to the rest. It should be noted that Harper Adams is not a very difficult university to get into, although its standards have risen quite a bit since it was just an agricultural college. In those days it really just existed to give degrees in tractor studies to young farmers who were going to inherit their parents’ land. (I wouldn’t have dreamt of going there under any circumstances, for example, although I’m still fond of it.) This may help to explain why the students were so very stupid.

Incredibly, I had never heard about this case. I suppose Harper has not really wanted to publicize it! There was once something about an I.R.A. bomb scare in a telephone box or something, but that might not have been related, or only related in that it inspired him. Being an agricultural college made it more plausible that there could be an I.R.A. presence.
