They probably used it to install the firmware too. Not really a secret. They all have it

The port must also be used to constantly charge the watch in the Apple Store on the interactive display models. If you notice, they don't have a standard charger under them, so there must be a cable running through the strap to the port.

They should use that port for bands that have small solar panels so you can charge your watch on the go!

I got a 42mm Apple Watch Series 2 with a sport black band, but I bought a case from amazon called Supcase for my watch.

Hmm, thanks. I didn't even notice that port. I'm loving my watch. Keeps me moving and my Personal Trainer is always asking me to check my pulse when I exercise. He thinks it's the best feature of the watch. Since I'm the 65 yr. old grandma subbie...most likely the only you've got, I thought I'd weigh in here. Oh, I have the small face with a green band. I don't leave the house without mine. I thought it would be a conversation starter, but I get no lookers. I can't believe they don't notice it. I'm a person of color and it's neon green. What's up with that?

thats awesome. I wonder if they have plans to make a charging band like that, that is still in development, or the port was just made to get a diagnosis of the watch and its a coincident that a company found a way to use it to charge it. (Apple's possible compition to Pebble's smart straps?)

I dont think they will make a secondary battery as the port was definatly not made for it. and if, it would be the only thing its usefull for, because all it is, is the Programming JTAG Port.

Just took the little port cover off there is a 6 pin port but you can't plug an apple charge cable into it.

seems like its a service port for when the watches hard crash take it to apple store and thats how they repair also you cant do a charging band since the ports are deeper than the band it would not slide in

The pins would charge way faster cuz it normally charges wirelessly and it pretty inaficiant

Hermès 42mm with Fauve Barenia leather strap. Recomended, adds a classy stylish look. However unless you have $1000-$1500 to spend on it, your out of luck. They do not sell the straps sepretly.

that is a service port, its how they check your watch for faults and also how they put the os on the watch :)!

I'd like to see a wristband that could add a camera.

I don't even use an iPhone but I think it'd be smart to make a band that the clasp was a male/female USB port so you could just unclasp it and plug it right into a computer or USB adapter, no need to carry a charging cable.

Companies have been innovating on their products for years, and Apple has never had to, because the average consumer is so uneducated. People jizz their pants over a 1mm thin port lololol.

That's a service port. If apple wanted people use it they wouldn't have covered it up. It's extremely unlike apple to ask their customer to get a needle and remove that tiny easy to loose cover in order to get a special band to work. I would say that the reason it charges faster is because it's meant to be used by trusted technicians. In other words they can trust the charger to work properly and doesn't need the same safety standards. As well as bypassing a lot of things that could possibly break.

It is an expansion port for a wristband Apple is developing for more battery life.

It's actually then card that can make your watch connect to your phone and have all the contacts. Like a mini sd card

That port is for servicing and some third party charging band for the apple watch tat charge the watch with tat port

That would be cool if they made bands that recharges your apple watch like a charging case but in the band and it would be cool if you can charge the band just by charging your apple watch like u always did !!!!!
