TheGamingBros it's trying to load e reader data that isn't there because an e reader isn't connected and the gameboy is trying to access data that isn't there
Hmm... This is an old video, but I'll just say what the room is and why it is there: In the Japanese versions, the room was supposed to be the place where you could battle trainers who you scanned in with the E-Reader accessory. However, in the US version, E-Reader functionality was abandoned due to the fact that the E-Reader was a commercial failure in the 'States. The game displays odd text and crashes because it tries to access a nonexistent memory location normally reserved for the E-Reader. Since there is no written data in that location, whatever the game displays is completely random and often uninterpretable by the game, and so it crashes.
Gamefreak: "Hm. We need to cover this door up so no one will know it's there. How? I know! We'll slap potted plants over it so you can still see the open door behind them. No kid will EVER want to know what's behind that door now!"
The funny thing is that this was entirely pointless and required MORE effort on their part. They already have a wall tile they could paint it over with, but instead chose to make a "stair blocked by plant" tile. It is like they did it to kick up playground rumours.

There is something off here. When I was curious and wanted to find out what was in the secret room, I used AdvanceMap to edit the permissions, allowing me to go through. However, when I went through, there wasn't a hiker, instead there was some weird looking guy sprite who I had never seen before, but it didn't let me talk to him. :/
You will need an E-reader and cards to swipe that input trainers into the game. This is the way to get through the door. You battle the trainers on the e-reader cards. Was a cute idea but not many people did it :3 I still have my trainer cards.
Finally!! I've been waiting to find out this secret for 18 years!! What could it be?! A rare item? A super rare Pokémon?! A secret Trainer battle with Red?! :D … Wait. So Game Freak got lazy bc it originally suppose to be for some lame wireless instalment trade nobody wanted or cared about and instead of just removing that door completely they just put a bunch of trees there just to torment us?! WHAT THE FUC- *explodes*
It's the room for the e-Reader. I used to have it. I mainly used it to get a bunch of Enigma berries :P I got the cards and e-Reader RIGHT before they stopped showing up in stores. :P
I bet when the noise happened the guy was like "SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIIIIT!!!" Cause I think it was Game-Freaks anti hacker alarm (yet GameShark managed to get past that)
So it was supposed to be an event using e-reader cards apparently, but those were discontinued just before release so they may have just scrapped it, however u basically battle the hiker and when u beat him the old man thanks you and apparently that watching you battel makes him feel like he's a part of the battle which in turn makes him feel young again. So that's the answer to that and u can only get that far in the Japanese version where I guess they didn't have time to get rid of all the data due the games having to be released as soon as possible.
You need the E reader. Its a devise you plug in to the gameboy and then the game in to that. You then have various cards (Actual pokemon cards have sometimes the swipe able sides, trainer cards you buy in packets or berries) then this room allows you to fight the trainers. You automatically get the berries and I can't remember what happens with the Pokémon I had great fun with it :D
Theres a video of this dude that edits out the plants, goes up, talks to him, game screeches and crashes. He then changes to a Japanese version with the same file (done on pc) and he can actually battle him, only that he uses a question mark for a pokemon with level 0, you beat him and you automaticlly go dowstairs, then old guy just says some random generic texts later to block the door himself. And yes I knew it was for E-Readers in Japan,
This is a pokemon battle played by a link thing but was only available in Japan so if you wanna battle the screeching hiker then link with the trainer battle link thing and go to the placed to get introduced to the man blocking the entrance
So you had to use a hack to get into that room blocked by the trees, and seeing what is actually in that particular room and the game freezes when you talk to that hiker my guess is it was meant to be something but was never finished and at some point was removed
Most of the cards which have dot codes on the bottom only give a more detailed and fun info like a fancy pokedex entry but if you have the ones on the sides of the cards you can play some games like the other dot codes though some of the games require more then 1 card to play (eg: 2 or 3 usually are the needed ammount).
icyclenova Thanks, but you're about one month too late. And yes I am a PC Master Race because I don't own any other consoles and I don't like cheating.
Walking through walls basically makes any walls and triggers not there, the walkway is a trigger and you were walking through it, so if you stood on the tree, disabled WtW, then walked into the door, then it would have worked.
there is noting trough the trees, gamefreak just created that so you wonder what is actually through there, they were going to make it a time event for something, but they just wrapped up the game to make pokemon Colosseum if you look in Advanced map there isnt a warp to the actual door, therefore there cant be anything through there unless you create your own warp and edit movement permissions.
It was an e-reader event where you battle trainers you scanned in. The place in memory that the e-reader references doesn't exist in international versions so it crashes. In the original Japanese release, there is at least a place to reference so it defaults everything to 0 which creates a glitchy, but winnable, battle.
Cheats makes game crash..I mean using cheats especially walk through walls can destroy the story and makes the game boring and maybe trap you in a situation like this...Save the game first as your curiosity can be furious.
Does it actually ? And I saw several videos like that, with similar locked doors and people inside, so each time you talk to that person, it deletes your save ?
Ok, you're right. I just got Emerauld for my emulator, and using several cheats, got straight to these places. I made a backup of my saves before talking to each person. Each one deletes the save file ! Didn't affect me much because of the emulator, but it would be very annoying on a Game Boy Advance.
