This video is the lock series Version 4.0. A mechanism that not only hides but also automatically closes the drawer with an upgraded lock. The wood used is rubber wood and merbau, and the thickness is 18mm. Thank you.
That's quite ingenious. I really like the simplicity of the mechanism. It has a lot of potential to be adapted in different ways if the top knobs are, for whatever reason, undesirable.
What would this look like with a practical implementation, such as a nightstand or a dresser? Rotating the knobs on the top feels like a novelty that gets in the way of a usable solution. This is creative and high quality though.
It could be adapted a number of different ways, such as using a hidden slider or having a separate magnetic key that needs to be placed in a certain location to access the drawer. The nails could also be changed around in different orientations and/or spring-loaded, as long as you can find a working solution for operation. Two magnets in close proximity could be used instead of nails to move the top drawer and the release mechanism could just be for the front, that way the hidden drawer would always try to follow the bottom drawer and the only thing stopping it would be the front panel. If additional force is needed, a neodymium magnet could be epoxied to the nail head in the proper orientation to act in synergy with the release magnet. There's a bunch of different ways to achieve this effect in a more discrete setup.
It seems that the front knobs serves also as locking mecanism - if those are twisted close to front end AND nails have been dropped you should not be able to open the drawer, correct?
Exactly right. It can be locked with just the front handle. The rear handle acts as a lock and holds the lower drawer when opening and closing the drawer. 👌🍀😄
From technical perspective - nice But for what exactly is needed? Money to hide I don’t have… Even luxury goods… If I have - I would own a vault. Documents ?
This is a great video, I learned alot. I'm a novice woodworker, not the pro that made the Yankee Workshop shows. Though my brother has a business called the Half Yankee Workshop.
Beautiful design. My preference, however, would be for the locking to keep it closed rather than allowing it to open. It appears that gravity or earthquake could open the hidden drawer by mistake. Was just reminded of your other designs that do exactly this. Thank you for your ingenuity

Sorry. This is Korea, and I make my own based on ideas, but I don't sell them. If you go to a nearby woodworking shop and show the video, wouldn't you be able to get it? Thank you 😊 Have a nice day 🍀
